    I bet the majority of the viewers don't ride, lol. But this is one way to record audio. I like that you are putting it right on the gopro, rather than an external audio recorder. I also like the fact that you are using a gopro and have 2 distinct audio tracks, you can turn up the mic over speaker track. I've tried it all.

    • @STANTHEMOTOMAN
      @STANTHEMOTOMAN  Před 2 lety +3

      Yeah, I've never been a fan of using an external audio recorder. Too much extra work for, in my opinion, sound that is still comparable to lav mics. Lining up audio would an extra step too. Also, would add another button to press record that I know I'd fuck up and forget doing a lot of the time lmao. But yeah, having that flexibilty to control how loud you want that intercom mic to pick up the sound is great!

    So here's a funny story for you - after seeing your setup, I went about acquiring all the bits that I needed, I actually went the Ulanzi cage route b/c I liked the shelf to contain the GoPro mic adaptor. I sourced some inexpensive mics for the audio capture and started routing wires in my Schuberth C4 helmet, YES, Schuberth C4 - Hello Houston, we have a problem :-) The C4 is a modular helmet and you have to lift the chin guard to get your head inside, you can probably guess what's coming next; cable routing suddenly got complicated :-) Persiviarence eventually paid off and now I just have a small loop that sits to the side of my face that I need to 'fiddle' with.

    • @STANTHEMOTOMAN

      Ah yes that's true I guess I should have mentioned that in this video! I'm dumb for forgetting such an important detail especially since I had modular helmets here. Glad you figured it out! I jerry rigged my gopro audio adapter so that it would sit flush in BEHIND the gopro and the gopro would hold it in place (along with some tethering) when you mount it all up before a ride. That worked really well with my old Icon helmet, but with my brand new Shoei RF1400 I imagine that no longer is an option for me. Need access to the visor button still and all. I LOVE your idea of sticking it the side of the mount so I will give that a try once I get everything transferred over to my new helmet :)

      No problem! If i'm understanding your question correctly, then... not exactly. That mic is a completely different audio channel. The mic on my chin pics up MY voice, and the mic on the speaker pics up EVERYONE ELSES voices.
      With that set up you also have the bonus option of changing the volume of the intercom so that the mic on the speaker can pick up things more quietly or loudly.

    Great video! Quick question, does this setup also work with the Hero 10? My understanding you would need a powered mic for the 10. Lapel or non-powered mics don't work. I'm looking at getting the 10 for the exact same setup but I'm hearing conflicting information.

    Your audio seemed to have a little bit of "reverberation" in your voice. I don't know if that particular mic is too close to your mouth or it's the microphone itself.
    Just something I noticed.

    bro stan. been a subscriber ever since. way back to the vlogs you never show your face and stuff. HAHAHAH but some confusion here. how can a trrs mic to trs converter get audio from the intercom? some motovloggets pud the actioncam mic on one of the ear piece of the intercom. i cant do that tho i have really big ears and even intercom earpiece is poking my ears and squeezing it. HAHAHAHAH HOPE YOU REPLY BRO! ENJOY YOUR S1000RR REALLY GOODLOOKING BIKE!

    • @STANTHEMOTOMAN
      @STANTHEMOTOMAN  Před 2 lety +1

      Like I said, one end of the splitter has a mic that just sits on top of the intercom and picks up whatever audio comes out of the speaker of that intercom. The mic NEEDS to be a TRS mic to pick up audio! It does make it slightly more bulky though for sure so I can see how having bigger ears can cause problems. Some helmets have really big speaker cut outs which help with cases like that though! Thanks for the comment and the compliment about my bike! I love it!

      If you're a GoPro user, then upgrade to the newer GoPro's. They have way much better in-body stabilization. I went from the HERO4 to the HERO7 and it's way better now! If you got the 10, it would be even better than the 7!

    0:43 "chin mount produces the best angle"
    It depends on what you mean by "best". A chest mount [1] gives the most immersive view, letting the viewer see the rider's arms, hands, and all of the important stuff on the bike, and of course a good view of the road. It does a much better job of putting you "in the ride". You can see the steering inputs clearly in the periphery and it's more stable. Take a look at superbikeracer's videos. He uses a chin mount but usually has his head down low where the camera would be for a chest mount during normal riding.
    That being said, I usually use helmet mount because it's directional and I want to be able to look at scenery and other points of interest, but even with gopro's widest angle setting, it isn't as good as chest mount, because the you can't see the rider's arms (on a sportbike), and the dash and hands are too near the edge, often going in and out of frame if I angle the camera to be level and get a good view of the road. I've tried several positions on the helmet and the lower it is, the better (again, if you want to give the audience the most immersive view). I agree that chin mount looks the best from the outside.
    Thanks for the tips about the mic!
