      We will certainly be heading that way soon. So far we’ve just been exploring coves and anchorages along the south west coast, but really looking forward to heading up some of the rivers as summer starts to turn to autumn.

      @@CadohaAdventures yes I’m certainly glad we’ve sailed Croatia as it is stunning, but I wouldn’t go back there. Advising other People on wether to go is tricky though, I think I would still say yes if you’re happy to know you will be mercilessly ripped off wherever you go!

      By the way if the tides aren’t right you may be best anchoring in the deeper pool close to the mouth of the Hellford and take the dinghy up to the pub

    I so enjoyed this. I was born in Dartmouth and moved to Plymouth when i was 10 and now live in New Zealand where i own a Maurice Griffiths Golden Hind 31(Janine) ) that was made - in Plymouth and sailed to NZ by a previous owner. Sailing my own boat into Dartmouth is on my retirement bucket list which is why i appreciate this episode so much. Wonderful to see the footage walking out to Sugary Cove, so many early memories from there. Thank you so much - Roland Sommer

    As your heading down west, try stopping off at Looe, if you want to try the best pastie in Cornwall (Sarah’s). Looe’s river is tidal, but you can anchor off the beach, if the tide is out. Looe is my home town, but I’m in California, be great to see home via your channel. Video and drone footage is great, keep it up and stay safe. Kind regards Aaron.

    Interesting that you splurged for a new engine cover. In British Columbia, we often take new motors and new engine covers down to their primer coat and paint them gray, black or WHY. Overall, it reduces theft because the crooks can't tell what motor you have or what model year it is so they are less likely to steal your motor. Fishing:? You are better off fishing from your boat or dinghy than from shore, at least in most cases.

    Dominic, I get your fear of the water...I have the same Spielberg Syndrome...I lived in Belize when I was a kid and snorkelled everywhere and wasn't scared of anything until I saw Jaws 1....since then I have big Issues!...I have decided to do a Scuba course to help overcome the issue as I know how important it will be for me to be willing to dive in if my prop is fouled etc...Hmmm.. Lets see how it goes.

    • @CadohaAdventures
      @CadohaAdventures  Před 3 lety +1

      I don't doubt that I would jump in and try and fix things if I had a fouled prop, because I'd have to, I just know how scared I'll likely be whilst in the moment, perhaps?
      But then again I was always terrified of the idea of being beaten up and ended up pursuing a fairly long career in combat after what started as self defence classes, although the fear never really left me, I just got used to it, and the same goes for heights, I'm almost paralysed with terror after a certain height and yet managed to work as a rigger last year to earn some money, and the fear never fully left me, but, I got so used to it that I gradually become a bit more capable working at height.

      @@SVDreamCatcher1 no worries. We went for the 290, which is ample for us. It’s quite heavy, but deals with the sea well when there’s some swell.

      @@CadohaAdventures Hi, Thank you ever so much. We sailed from Chatham to Ramsgate at the end of April, and then sailed directly from Ramsgate to Brixham. We stayed down in Devon and Cornwall for two months on the boat. When we were in Brixham I contacted Rob Perry marine. I rang 3 times, and no one ever came back to me!!! I liked the way that guy delivered on the trailer. I actually met you in Chatham Marina when you doing the rigging, Pav left a card on my boat. I wish you two all the best, and Hank!!! Hopefully our paths will cross again sometime in the future. I use to watch your boat on the Creo channel. I'm really impressed with the way that you've improved the boat. We have Bavaria 42 Cruiser, she's absolutely beautiful, and we love her. We have Simpson davits with lewmar winches on the back of the boat, and that's where the Highfield will live. The weight won't really be an issue, but I think we will probably go for the 290. Take care. All the best Daryl.

    Some info for fellow cruisers would have been good. How was the navigation through the entrance, any current with or against you. Was there a bar like I believe there is on the way in to Salcombe? The spot you anchored in looked to be inside the estuary a bit and I believe that most of this part of the river is populated with moorings. Did you have to pay to anchor and what was the depth? Have a look into harvesting edible seaweed and sprouting seeds on your journey to self sufficiency. "Sailing the farm" might be a good book to look out for.

      Im am moored upriver on the Dart, beyond Dittisham so know it well. There is no bar the current depends on the tide 2 knots ish at springs but the navigation is easy, sometimes it gets a bit lumpy with wind over tide in the areas of the Dartmouth and Kingswear castles but otherwise its a doddle. Cadoha have anchored several hundred yards upstream from the lower car ferries (which have right of way under all circumstances) and are at the only anchoring spot on that part of the river as its busy with ferries and tourist trip boats, (more anchor areas further upstream.) There are also visitors pontoons a little further upstream 500 yards ish. Want any more info look on visitmyharbour.com or the Dart harbour website or just reply to this post, I am happy to help where I can. Your biggest hazard in the area is The Skerries and START POINT 10 miles west where it can be lumpy even at slack tides with no wind and current up to 3 knots ish.

      I'll be sure to bare that in mind for future videos to try and make them a bit more useful, but I think for the Dart, John just nailed it for us both 🙏🏻😁⛵️

      @@johnfoster3286 Many thanks John. Currently I am ashore in Totnes boatyard unable to stay overnight on my boat, bought end of last year for cruising off in my now retirement, they say it's a fire hazard if I do! So in order to prep it for getting gone I have to find alternative accommodation in order to get anything done. Currently I am in Chester so even getting to the boat is a hurdle because I don't currently run a car, (I decided it was not justified as my plans were to get aboard the boat and be off ASAP). Big concerns for me are what happens if the engine quits before I get to deeper water and when I get to water that is deep enough to anchor do they charge for putting your own anchor down? I think I can mitigate against an engine failure by installing an outboard bracket on the stern and having that ready to go in the event of a problem but that far up a river, finding accommodation in the peak of holiday season and the fact that the boat is new to me are concerns. Any thoughts?

    Hm, the pennies per episode for adverts has been troubling me. Do they claim ownership of shared content? What do they pay you when watchers buy premium membership? Am quite earnest in enquiry. Congrats on 1st lobster and responsible put back.

      Hey Drew. Not quite no, they overlay an add onto the video and we ‘split’ the ad revenue, which per view of an advert (non skipped) is worth a few cents each.
      Hope that makes it a bit clearer.
