From what I learned in school, the type of ground tends to influence the shape of the village, as well as the prevalence of raiders.
The row-village is often used in soggy areas, where there is one higher & drier road (on a dike, where necessary) along which the houses are built. The peat-digging and farming grounds stretch out in long narrow strips behind the houses. The dry road was necessary to transport their goods to market.
The commons-village, with the houses clustered around a common green, is better for poor sandy soil and defence.
The animal manure is spread in the common (as in your schematic where the common is marked [vegetable] 'garden') or in a fairly narrow ring around the outside (as in the vegetable plots behind the houses) and the fertilised area used to grow vegetables and grain.
In summer the sheep are further out grazing the poor heathland with only afew shepherds, but in winter they are kept stabled close by, easier to care for and protect from wolves but essentially also to build up the manure near where it'll be needed.
The church needs a good few meters layer of sand or soil above groundwater level for the cemetary, and also functions as a retreat during attacks, so it's often on a bit of a hill outside the village if the village is in a low area, but can be in the center if the village itself is on the higher ground - which depends on things like the flooding risk and the access to water and good growing soil.
The shape seen for defending against frequent raiding forces if you have a fortified manor to retreat to is clustering the village near the entry to the fortification (but outside archers range): staying alive trumps ease of agriculture, and the manor will want the height advantage.

This era of history gave most of europe the current road layouts. It's pretty interesting diving into the role of the person trying to figure out where to put new developments

Bro I started following you because of Anno 1800, but became aware of Manor Lords like a year ago. Since that time I've been waiting for it to release. 8 more days and I'mma instabuy. Point being, it's amazing finding you playing the early release of this game too!

I wonder if it's possible to simulate the golden age medieval villages where most people were living off food produced on their own plot and didn't even need to earn money since they could pay the local taxes (which were legally capped at 10% and rarely got that high) with produce.

I was curious as to what your main city building content would be now thqt you are winding up ANNO1800 feel thqt question is now answered, if I'm roght this is a very very solid replacement.

In the interest of algo engagement I'll ask here instead of on the Discord.
How common was it to have multiple families living in the same plot of land/house? Since this is a core mechanic in Manor Lords, with higher tier houses allowing this, as well as wider plots allowing construction of an additional house.
Or phrased a different way - Knowing you will be able to add a second building facing the road later, would you consider making initial house plots wider with this in mind "immersive" and "historically" accurate?

11:33 you didn't check the underground water overlay. Likely there is no water in the location of that well.

As a german, I love how you always struggle with german words 😀 and while I'm very sad you stopped Anno 1800, I'm happy to see you playing Manor Lords, as it's the only thing I remotely like after Anno 👍

It needs a bike lane and train station.
