I was lucky enough to be at one of these concerts in 2018. It was a lifetime experience, beyond any words. She is just incredible. Nothing can describe how perfect her voice is live.
That’s the big difference between a “trying-my-best-to-show-how-good-I-can-sing” and a real and urgent need to sing what you are feeling. That’s Sharon and Within Temptation. While other bands are so full of themselves, WT are always true about what they’re doing and all they want is you to join them and feel the experience
She sung this song a short time after she had lost her father from a horrible disease. He was her biggest fan. He died a few months earlier and this was one of the first times she performed again. There is a video from two days earlier in which she really breaks and has to stop singing here is the link to that
She can do so much with just her voice and all emotion she puts in it... Probably one of their saddest songs (the others explained better than I would have, probably).
I so admire Sharon’s ability to put emotion into songs, in both the lyrics she writes and the way she sings. Knowing the context behind this performance makes it all the more both heartbreaking and impressive that she was able to channel everything she was feeling into her voice. Jeez, I’m gonna need a minute to recover from this one 😂 the only other time I think I’ve seen her this emotional is when she sings Say My Name, a song she wrote about her grandmother having Alzheimer’s. I know Forgiven wasn’t written about her father, but so many of the lyrics clearly hit home.
For better live audio although it's probably been processed somewhat, Her performance from the black Symphony concert It is so good... But you must do the song also done with that set is set called THE SWAN SONG ... It was only released on the European and Japanese C d's when the silent force album came out.... It's all emotional so beautiful so perfect.
I don't have Patriot money donation money to request songs but you have to do more ballads of hers because everybody seems to skip them and they're so beautiful.... Pale, Bittersweet, Relentless, Is memories... Aquarius
I believe its about her relationship with her father before he died. I saw WT 6 times on that 2018 Resist tour and each time the audience held their collective breath during Forgiven. Most knew of her loss of her father and that she was fighting her emotions whilst singing this song. At one of the 6 shows she did break towards the end and the feeling of support from the crowd was palpable. I find it very hard to watch this performance now. Her face gives away her pain.
I think it's just the way she sings and puts herself into a song.. Need not be about anybody from her past. She is just that great at emoting

Thanks for the reaction. There are almost no reactions to this song on YT.
No one sings the feeling of despair like Sharon does.

The most beautiful song
Fun Ayreon fact: Sharon plays the part of the Indian on The Electric Castle

THIS ARE REAL EMOTIONS. HARD TO FIND IN THE U.S.
