I was stuck in the bush at Ingleburn south of Sydney in 1988 in one of the wettest, coldest winters in decades and for a week we just had the CR 5M. It was all tins. It was the worst week of my life.
Would be awesome to see a collective review of a 5 man ration kit, different channels collaborating on a kit like this. First individual review for each channel with links to each other, then maby a podcast or something where all 5 comes together with a final verdict.
I would enjoy you checking out a bit of this stuff

I love Mashed Potatoes, the Australian ones. I wish one could buy those. I just reviewed the Cadet Ration the Australian one and that one had them too. I love those. I wish they sold 'em at the store.
I fully agree about the drinks. I always complain when there is only 1 if that. Those are often young guys. If it's not sweet they're not gonna drink as much fluids. And that powder isn't really the expensive part of the menu.

just an update on the whole isotonic drink situation. nutritionists are now saying they are not very healthy, and far better is for a person to derive their salt and minerals from food. It's a slower release and doesn't give you a big sugar hit and crash like a drink will.

Great review mate. I was lucky enough to get one a while ago. It was manufactured in 98. Mine was an E too and very interesting to see the difference between the two. Unfortunately mine was not in the best of shape but box was in good condition.
It'll be interesting to see photos of your one there was some up on eBay last year regrettably didn't get it same year 1998 menu e .

Hey Ol' Mate, What a find! Though I was bit surprised that you weren't keen on Beta. I love it myself. In the land of Velveeta and squirtable "Easy Cheese," I welcome the almost cheddary goodness of Bega. The next tinned cheese that's palatable to me is Tastee Cheese from Jamaica. What's strange is that I can find Bega at one third the price of Tastee, but the Bega has travelled ten times as far. I guess I'm not looking hard enough. All the best.

Quite a few things were in the old 10 men ration packs of my time. (1967-1987) Main difference we had cans and less comfort food.
Thank god, I got most of the way through and hadn’t seen any tubes of sweetened condensed milk before we got to the cartons at the bottom. I’d have rioted if I got a rat pack without that tube of liquid gold.

Australia doesn't use FRHs, they actually issue the troops with the chemical fuel stoves like Russia and Lithuania.

@@olmatedropbear7862 hi from me got your message very late last night..it's queens birthday weekend here in NZ . would love to see a review of a NZ pack.. it's a bit embarrassing as we give our service persons 2 minute noodles..I reckon they deserve something better..yet to review anything myself but that's not too far away..my plan is to design my own 24 hour pack for NZ recruits or officers..would you be up to the challenge of doing an Australian one...it means salvaging from other packages tho.. keep doing vlogs !!😎

Thank you. Yes, the troops are issued with esbit stoves and mess kits very similar in style to the UK mess kits (apart from the handles in the way they fold)

do you have any 1967 rat packs ? when I was 21 i got issued a rat pack that was made the year I was born .

Plastic containers, are awesome, and, Protect the food well! Hell of A bowl or plate as well friend! Container #2 , well thought out items, just like container #1 !! #3, works well for cals., carbs, and, sugar sir! , #4, more of the same ! Plus , rubber bands, condiments, accessories. Awesome Ration Mate. Box on the bottom, all useful and necessary items. Condensed milk, should be in all rations. Matches and watertight container, always useful ! The brand, Sustagen, I am not familiar with. However, concept, applies to brands I do know. Understood sir. Last box, beautiful, soup, drinks, canned items, canned fruit, jams, and, of course, F.R.E.D.s" . Art and Nina, just sent my first one. I will be used, on occasions, which require, spreads or jams. Last review, I was using for spreads, then, tried to eat with it, LOL. Caught myself, slightly before attempting. You know me, Get wrapped up in situation. This, my friend, is an awesome ration, I have never seen, heard of, or, comprehended existence of! Beautiful, well played mate, more ways than one my friend !! That is what I was thinking too John - the plastic containers protect the components. What a treasure trove of good stuff in there. Hey, have you ever tried that Aussie fruit cake? It's aromatic of spice and absolutely delicious. And don't get me started on the tubes of sweetened condensed milk. I know you can buy cans in the grocery store.. but the tubes are just so handy. That sustagen - ya gotta whip it big time in a glass. Hard to mix but it tastes like chocolate milk.
