agreed about dubai catering to rich and dumb tourists. Saudi Arabia is a great place for free food. Almost all the small restaurants in mecca and medina have a sign offering free food to people who dont have money. its usually the cheap food buts its a full meal 3 times a day.

I use my U.S T-Mobile data whenever I go out to Dubai and it's free unlimited so I guess it depends how you look at it.
Wifi is free in all malls and alot of public places in Dubai
Lots of free wifi hotspots in the UAE, even on some moving buses

I love how confident you are going to these places. I wish I had the confidence to go away somewhere and just be comfortable. I find myself quite limited when it comes to going on holiday because I feel insecure about where I am. Do you have any tips for just enjoying new places rather than feeling nervous or out of place?
Usually I get passed that by trying to enjoy the surroundings and the scenery as much as I can, usually the beauty of the environment around me trumps any of those feelings
I've been to many countries alone. Most countries have signs in English as well as the native language. I get around alot easier than I would've thought before I started traveling. To me the excitement of being there takes away all other feelings. In sketchy looking places I walk at a decent pace and just look down and mind my business and I've never had a problem. Well there was this one time in Portugal lol....

Ski Dubai (the ski slope in Mall of the Emirates) has loads of rides for kids, but they also have pretty big ski slopes with proper chairlifts for people who want to ski or snowboard).
Mate I must say you have inspired me 100% in getting out there and to experience life and the world again. I am leaving Australia in March and going to travel the U.K and Europe finally!
