If you ever needed a sign to make homemade bagels, have this be it!! They were so yummy!! - Becky
I recently made both Airfryer & Baked Homemade Bagels! These were trial-and-error recipes! Homemade is amazing & better, in my opinion. 🥯
EXACTLY!😃
We LOVE bagel pizzas here.
I'm stirring up the dough right meow!
❤😹✌
I like putting the everything bagel seasoning as the add in.
I love my homemade bagels. Watching for inspiration and new ideas…
I have a camp in Maine and the blueberries grow wild all around me. They are so flavorful, much more so than the big cultivated blueberries. Cute story, I was sitting in a lawn chair near a big blueberry bush and the bush started shaking; as I watched a chipmunk came out of the bush with both cheeks bulging with the berries. Totally adorable!!
Fellow Maine girl here…nothing more beautiful than the blueberry fields in Cherryfield, Maine…which produces 99% of the country’s blueberries 😊
Maine blueberries are the best.I'm a northern Maine person but have relatives on the coast. I remember my grandmother making blueberry cake from blueberries we picked. Yummy!
I'm also from Maine! The Western Foothills..we have blueberry bushes in our yard that are so delicious! Thanks Becky for the video, I am totally going to make some bagels now! 🫐💜🫐💙
Best blueberries I've ever had were from Maine !!
& lobster too
Thought there was going to be a bear in your story!😄
I loved your smile when Josh came in the house. It was so full of love! I saw the dogs moving but what gave it away was that quick smile! ❤
You’ve inspired me to make bagels! I did so years ago, and it’s time to bring it back! NOTE: after you form the rolled ball, try letting the balls rest for 7 to 10 minutes before forming the holes. A bit of relaxation does wonders. I’m 80, but never too old to enjoy (and share) food tips! I very much enjoy your videos-especially the gardening!
Yes, when I form my bagels, once done I go over them a second time. You really want them too look way too big. Like twice the size at least of a hole than you want in the final product.
Also, after I do the final shape I cover with plastic and let them sit overnight in the fridge. This breaks up your time and lets the bread develop more flavor.
Thanks for the tip! I will try that today on my next batch of bagels.
Thanks for the tip!
Hi Becky, looks amazing! However, this just in: the reason you boil the bagels is not actually for the "chew". Boiling bagels before the baking sets the crust, prevents the dough from expanding too much in the oven, and gives bagels their unique skin. Same goes for pretzels. Just an FYI 😅
I was going to say the same, and to expand on that, just surprised that her recipe didn’t tell her to put baking soda and molasses in the boiling water. I’ve never seen a recipe that didn’t call for that.
@@TLadret I've only seen adding malt syrup to the water. But these aren't real bagels anyway.
Exactly this!
Correct I've always added baking soda to help the crust brown.. but she didn't seem to have any issues with the crust by skipping this step.
@@kitford513 why do you say they are not real bagels?
Out of all the content I watch on here and other platforms Becky is my favourite creator. Please keep creating you inspire me and add so much to my days (when I see the new videos are out) I really hope you come out with Aprons and a mug I'd love those for sure
Actually, Becky, a jalapeño round got put into the dough by accident. That’s why you were short one for the top. You did great! Bagels are real pills sometimes and I’m impressed at how well you did.
So I wasn't the only one who saw the slice of jalapeno on the center of the mixer blade! 😂 I came here to also tell her that her math wasn't off. 👍✌️
Me too!!!🤣😂🤣
Me and my 4yr old daughter love watching your videos! It’s so cute to hear her say omg mommy becky uploaded a new video we have to watch it! We’ve see all of our videos and have been watching since the beginning!
Aw tell her I said hi! Thank is so sweet :) thanks for watching
Your uploads are always the top of my list. This may sound odd, but I watch them before bed because they’re so relaxing. I watch them while I work, as well, they somehow make me focus more! Plus they’re so educational. I didn’t have strong parental figures so I’m learning all of my cooking how to’s from the internet these days. Thank you for sharing these with us!
Along with the honey I put 1 tablespoon of baking soda it helps brown them
This bagel-palooza was great. Had me drooling! With the blueberry bagel, i think you only put in 3 cups originally. But I need to re-watch the video. I love the way your knowledgeable touch tells you that the dough could use more flour and you adjust accordingly. That's a real baker.
I noticed that she hadn't put in enough flour also.
Yep you're right. Easy to do when trying to talk and work at the same time.
Becky could make pouring cereal fun to watch :)
Aw thanks! I plan to try and make homemade cereal at some point soon
Completely agree
How ironic! I’m literally making sourdough bagels for the first time and your video popped up! Currently the dough is resting, we live on a boat in the Caribbean, so the rise time is significantly cut down compared to cooler climates. Thanks for the video, Becky. ❤ 🥯
Those adorable little pups waiting at the door ❤ Wonder who they are waiting for 😊
A tip for future I used little squares of parchment to make bagels on then when you boil them just pick up paper and all and put in the water before flipping them paper comes right off Then after boiling place them on a full sheet of parchment to bake This helps with not deflating your dough
I love your doing different types breads because I love baking bread its my hobby now. I wouldnt have known this without my first try with your no knead so thank you taking me on this journey! 😊 Happy baking everyone!
I never attempted to make homemade bagels 🥯 thinking it would be difficult. After watching you. You made it look simple.
Congratulations!
A bagel making tip though because I didn’t see you add it, is once your water is boiling, add a couple of tablespoons of Baking soda (2T) and either 2T honey or brown sugar* (*you can also add barley malt powder or syrup). The baking soda is important. Be careful when you add as the water will boil up. This will impart color, shine, and a chewy texture in the finished bagel. To get this, much like pretzels, you need to change the water to alkaline with the soda. You don’t want to add too much of it, because it can give a metallic taste, but you don’t want to skip it either.
Where I live I can’t get fresh bagels…. I’ve made my own bagels so many times! So easy and SO DELICIOUS!!!!
Becky, I watched your first bagel making video 9 months ago, and have been making my own bagels ever since. Just made a batch this morning. You are an amazing woman!
Love watching your dogs peering through the glass door.
Hi Becky 😊. Thank you for teaching and not belittling those of us who are learning. Appreciate you ❤
I love that Josh needed to express the fact that he didn't feel threatened by the knife. So cute. 😊
Becky love watching you. Love how you have all the wonderful equipment to make all the delicious dishes
They all look fantastic. You can hear the crust when you bite into it but that soft chew on the inside like a good bagel should have. ❤
We used to take our kids to NYC once a year to see a Broadway play, but every time we took a couple of empty suitcases so we could bring back dozens and dozens of bagels from a bagel factory. They froze beautifully! Good memories! Back then all that luggage flew free too!
Spill the goods - which factory?
NY City bagels are the best. It's the OG.
I did not even make it through your video and went to the recipe you listed for plain bagels and made a batch. First timer and they are amazing. I put the everything bagel seasoning on them. Thanks Becky! I’m 55 and I am
Learning from
You for my urban homestead! Now to watch the full video! ❤
BECKY I LOVE WATCHING YOUR VIDEO'S! I spend just about every night watching while my husband watches hockey. I am so intrigued by your cooking methods l don't even hear the hockey game.Keep up the good work!!,
Watching you guys do the taste test made me so hungry for bagels 😂. Great job Becky 🥰
The best baking youtube I have ever watched!
My favorite bagels are the ones with Asiago cheese inside and on top. Yum!
Just a tip, when you shake your measuring cup to level out the flour, you are compacting the flour therefore using more flour than called for. Just fluff flour, dip cup in and level it off with the back of a butter knife.
The only way to be accurate is to measure in grams
Thanks for sharing
I see she's given up on the scale already.
As a precise, meticulous baker, the way she measures with incorrect measurements freak me out. I cringe seeing a liquid measure cup used for dry, etc. But…you do you. Becky is still going to have bagels, bread, cake etc. it’s just going to be heavier. I’ve seen plenty of Nona’s that bake like they cook, a toss of this or that, and it gets food on the table. 😊
When I don’t weigh baking ingredients, I do the Martha Stewart cheat: fluff my flour container with a whisk, gently scoop, then gently pour into measuring cup, then level.
I have a love hate relationship with making bagels. They are so good and totally worth it but they are a labor of love.
I have never been soo early! So glad to be here and watch it together friends! ❤❤
I will take it as a sign that it's finally time to make bagels for myself! I've never had one, they aren't a thing in my country, but it looks so good! Thank you for another video!
Oh my goodness you won't regret it!
They are very chewy.
Oh Becky, this is going to be FUN! We love bagels in my family. I’d LOVE to be able to make them myself. Thanks for showing me how.❤ Have a wonderful day.🤗
Omgoodness...my mouth is watering! Love bagels, but i have been intimidated by them.
❤ So ready for more baking with Becky! I will one day be able to make my own bread consistently....
I love your videos , my husband & my self spend long hours watching , we enjoy the piece of culinary arts . and learn a lot THANK YOU ! ❤❤❤❤❤
Now I’m in the mood to make bagels. Thank you and they turned out perfect. Great job.
Happy Monday Becky 😊
Wild blueberries are my favorite! Lots of blueberry flavor.
I have always believed making bagels was extremely difficult. After watching this video, I was inspired to give bagel making a try. They were great! Thank you!
You are such an inspiration to try new things, I made the donuts from your video this weekend and impressed my family!!
Oh my goodness I was just talking about wanting to make bagels! My Kroger used to make the best jalapeno cheddar bagels and they stopped doing them completely. Most likely I will make them without a big hole no matter what because we use them for sandwiches too! So happy to see this video!
Yay, hi Becky! Cinnamon bagels are my absolute favorites. 💯
They were so easy to make!
I have been wanting to make blueberry bagels. Thank you for sharing.
Love love blueberry bagels. I got a recipe from a bagel shop several years ago for a cream cheese spread. Ingredient amounts are how much or how little you prefer. They made their spread with softened cream cheese - black walnuts and honey to your own taste. I have occasionally added a touch of maple syrup instead of honey and also vanilla extract. I don't make them too often because we have a problem in my household of not knowing when to stop.
The black walnuts sound really good. We have black walnut trees in my back yard!
I’m going to be making these for sure . Thank you Becky.
I make a jalapeño cheddar loaf in my Dutch oven and it is yum! All those bagels look yummy! And now I'm hungry..
OMG! I just made my first recipe of bagels after watching your video! They were DELICIOUS!!!! I am now planning for other recipes and freezing most of them as hubby and I don't eat large amts of bagels but it is a nice treat 1-2x's a week. Thank you Becky for all of your hard work. I have been so inspired in the kitchen and my cooking skills are improving with every meal after following all of your videos.
I purchased a scraper attachment for my dough hook it’s very helpful
They look wonderful. There is a lady over in Sweden who watches your channel and she's planning on doing freezer meals like you do. I just watched her unpack a box sent to her from her Amazon wish list of most of the equipment you use. It's so beautiful to see her reaction on the things that she receives from the USA . And she loves what you're doing and you have inspired her to do cooking/baking/homesteading that she has never done before. You're an inspiration to her and of course many others. She mentioned this video on the bagels. Blessings.
Can’t wait to try the bagel recipe! Forgot to comment on your video about hand pies. Living in England I know exactly the hot water pastry and make it for my Cornish pasties, or they make it for something called pork pies, using lard. It must be said I’m not a lover of pork pies, as they call for flavoured gelatin in them.
Also, am a big fan of the television show you’re referring to, in fact the female presenter in U.K. is leaving and not sure who is going to replace her. Can’t wait to see who they will replace her with.
Once again Becky you did it! Making bagels looked like a lot of fun. Toward the end, you and Josh doing the taste test was great! I learned quite a bit about bagel making watching your video. Thank you! 🍪
Hi Becky! Blessings to you and family and to everyone on this platform, God is good to us because we are alive today. Thanks for sharing another amazing video❤👍🙏
Living in Nova Scotia where we grow "wild blueberries"..as well as cultivated blueberries ..wild all of the way..and i do believe they have more anti oxidents..etc
You take all the mystery out of cooking and make it seem doable, even EASY! Thank you for sharing videos with us. I always look forward to a new one.
❤ Becky time is awesome. Greetings from South Carolina
All of those look so good. I can't wait to try making some for my family. Thank you!
Well now I want to make bagels 😂 You are so adorable, I love watching your videos.😊
I have never salivated so much as I have on this bagel episode!! I am going to try every one of them! ❤
Oh my, the bagels all looked spectacular!
Tried the plain bagel recipe yesterday! Made everything bagels and garlic, onion, white cheddar bagels! They are a huge hit in my house! We, of course, had bagel BLTs last night for dinner! ❤
Liking cranberries, you could use dried cranberries in one of your next bagels. They are excellent.
Cranberry, walnut with a little orange zest.
Becky I just love your videos. I look forward to turning on my computer in hopes you're on my playlist. I've watched my local baker make bagels. He would roll the dough into a rope, wrap the rope around his hand and a form the bagel. The hole was huge but when it bake it was perfect. Although Josh did have a good point about no hole makes it better to for a sandwich.
You said “he would roll the dough into a rope, wrap the rope around “his” and a form the bagel……….i don’t understand that…..I am just trying to see what that means. I am sure I am reading it wrong.
@@wandafrmbama5803 wrap it around his hand to form the circle then crimp it to stay round and the hole would be large enough to stay open when it rises. Now I don't understand how else to explain it.
@@1netie OH around his hand! I understand that you had left the word hand out LOL thanks for explaining it. I have cooked and baked lots of things in my life but never bagels but wow did those look good!! Thanks and have a nice evening 😊
@@wandafrmbama5803 sorry about missing an important word.
@@1netie no problem!! Just love reading comments!
Hi Becky! Just love your videos
I love how you love what you do! Your excitement is contagious! Good job Acre Homestead! Blessings, Miss Linda 😇😇
So we made blueberry bagels this morning and they were so good! I accidentally used AP flour instead of bread flour and just used frozen blueberries (all I had on hand) but so worth the work! I will make these again for sure! Thanks as always for recipe ideas Becky!!!
I just love the way you and Josh interacts. It brings joy to my heart. I know I’ll be making endless bagels in the future. Thank you💃🏿💕
My goodness, they all look so delicious!
Love hearing that crunch for each of the trials. You can just tell they are amazing!
I've made Sally's Baking Addiction dozens of times. I make an "everything bagel" mix of chia seeds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and fennel. I make my jalapeño bagels with a slice of muenster cheese on the bagel for the last 10 minutes of baking, otherwise the cheese will burn. The SBA recipe works even better if you can mix it up the night before and let it proof in the refrigerator. If you use malt powder instead of honey or another sweetner when you boil your bagels they are crispier. A kitchen scale is your friend. I find the SBA recipe makes about 8, no matter what I put in them. Also, better than parchment paper are silpats. I can see by how your bagels look that they aren't stiff enough - you need more flour. When your mixer is growling, you've got it. It makes for a denser texture. Get out your smoker and get some salmon on there.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. 😊
I have been watching you for years now and never thought I could cook or bake, but you make it feel so normal and easy, so I finally made my first cookies today that I got from your website and they turned out so good! And then I also watched your live and made the apple pies with you together and I still cannot believe I actually managed to make those 😅 thank you Becky for making me more comfortable in the kitchen!
One of my favorite sandwiches is a toasted BLT on a bagel! I know how much you love your BLTs with your garden 🍅...imagine on the jalapeño cheddar bagel! Yummm
They all look so good
All these bagels are making me homesick. I grew up in upstate NY. NY being the capital of bagels. Your bagels would certainly give them a run for their money. 🙂 I can just imagine the aromas in your kitchen, Yummy!! Hello Josh, glad you got to be home for the taste test. You're a lucky man.
Great video Becky! I enjoyed watching because I had never seen the bagel-making process from start to finish. They all look professional to me. You definitely have a knack for breadmaking!
I cannot wait to try these!! Here in the UP of Michigan, our wild blueberries are also tiny and so sweet. That's the difference between those larger berries everyone is used to. Thanks for the video and the inspiration!
You set that kitchen up so well for everything. All the baking stuff so close and so good for filming xxx
Hi Becky!! Yay!
They all look amazing!
Lol, we're on the same vibe 😊 I was planning on sending you the recipe and directions on how to make Montreal style bagels! I took a class a few months ago and they are amazing...I thought you'd love it.
We’d all love the recipe
Cool, ill try posting this weekend
Sally’s recipe for bagels is my go to recipe. I make plain, poppyseed, sesame and cinnamon raisin. It’s difficult to get good tasting bagels in France.
My mouth is watering. You do an amazing job showing each step. My aunt used to make jalapeno cheddar bread, and she used jarred jalapeno. The heat was great. Salted butter works great.
Even though I’m diabetic I love watching you bake any bread recipe. I can eat breads sometimes if I save my carb numbers for it.
Are your sweet dogs waiting for Josh to come home?
Becky,
You are not only making a difference in my kitchen and garden, but also my classroom! I teach 3rd graders and we talk a lot about growth mindset and grit. This last week I brought in your message of getting better a little bit each time. It resonated with me and I knew it was exactly what the kids needed to hear as we were preparing for our test. Thanks for being you!
The expression in your face while trying each bagel is priceless. I love that you can hear the crunch going into soft when you bit into it. I’ve made bagels 3x. It’s WORK. So I always make in large batches to freeze. I pre-cut all of them and placed a folded piece of freezer paper between each (so the wax side is touching each piece to prevent sticking). Then I wrapped each in freezer paper before placing in ziplock. When I take out of the freezer its easy to unwrap and pop went into toaster oven and lightly toast quickly.
I appreciate that you did a close up of rolling the smaller portions. And your hole making is MUCH better than two other ways I’ve tried (one was a donut cutter).
Pre-slicing is the key to freezing!
You did your math right on your jalapeno slices. One of them ended up in the dough.
You make me want one of these mixers. I wouldn't mind trying to make my own bagels. Yum.
Amazing, Becky! You are the epitome of a chef!! ♥️🙏🏼♥️
Love your content Becky You are so organised with cooking and filming AND your kitchen is so clean❤
I just made these! Absolutely amazing! Thank you so much for your knowledge 😋 I appreciate the joy you share x
Great. Now I want a Bosch mixer. Thanks a lot Becky. Lol
That crunch whe you bit into them, that did it! I need these!
This is wonderful! I cook for someone that has an uncommon allergy and there are NO bagels he can have from any brand.
This is so timely. That Panera bagel is my favorite and I’ve been wanting to try and make it. Thank you
Now i want to make bagels 😂 thanks Becky! Hi everybody
I just made homemade bagels for the first time this weekend! I wasn’t too happy with how they turned out so I’m glad you shared this😊 I’ll try your recipe for sure!
They looked great well done, I love how Josh gives such a clear and concise review of anything he tastes ❤
I really like my Bosch mixer too
Hi Becky, thank you for sharing this video and I’m so happy to know that I can use instant yeast as well to make bagels 🥯 🤗 thanks again ❤
