this is what i'm imagining the horse is saying in it's head Horse:AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA *wolves turn away Horse: i will never be the same
Heartbreaking Nymeria Fact: When watching “Stormborn”, and seeing the heartwarming Arya and Nymeria reunion I realized something…. In Nymeria’s pack, there was a black (Shaggydog), grey (Greywind), two lighter colored ones wolves (Lady and Summer), and a white one (which represents Ghost). So seems like Nymeria’s pack is made of wolves that resemble the Stark direwolves. She found her family.
her saying "thats not you" is actually linked to her experience with the faceless , just like she is no longer her, it was said to show the growth of change
It could also be a reference to what she said to Ned earlier in the series, when she was first learning swordplay from Syrio. Ned told her she'd grow up to be a lady and bear heirs to the family. Her reply was, "That's not me."
@Maxine Waters. I think it's a bit different than that, and more subtle. Both Nymeria and Arya were effectively forced out of their pack by outside aggressors (Arya let her go to save her life). Both are now far more wild than before and living different lives. Both have lost their identity. "That's not you," is a reference to Arya talking to Ned when he said Arya will grow up someday running her husband's keep. "That's not me," she said to Ned, indicating being a traditional highborn lady is not who she is. "That's not you," Arya said as Nymeria retreated, indicating that Nymeria, wild, and not with Arya as a part of Winterfell isn't who Nymeria truly is at all. Both have lost their identities. Nymeria need to claim hers back. As does Arya, I think. Arya has some more growing to do in Season 8. We'll see Nymeria again, but it will only be after Arya has fully reclaimed her own identity as a Stark of Winterfell.
It's quite sad and touching how Nymeria's expression changed from snarling to something resembling sadness when she realised it was Arya. She seemed quite sad when walking away too.
Like, Arya, she needed to get awat from her family to find herself. She found a new family and she can't abandon them. But she loves Arya and will always be around if she needs her, though I think Arya can take care of herself.
"That's not you" refers to Nymeria not being a follower and so doesn't just follow commands like that. Nymeria is a leader, which is shown by the pack.
Arya was not meant to go back to winterfell. Nymeria knows that. Kings Landing is the way. Arya (in Season 1) told her dad that "that's not me" when he said that she would be a lady of a house amd have children, etc...she'd rather be a fighter
Well yeah Game of Thrones is smart like that. She understands or at least rationalises the choice Nymeria makes through her own experiences. Both Arya and Nymeria have followed their own path instead of what they're being told and survived. Look at how many others, both direwolves and starks have died.
I imagine they would, but it could also just be a quick touch with home after all this time as well and represent the growth on their individual paths.
I think I understand the symbolism of the direwolves. Lady dies first shortly after that a part of Sansa dies as well her innocence and Naivety. Greywind and Robb practically die together connected to the end as Robb never changes so much. Summer dies when Bran dies and the 3 eyed raven is born even Bran has said he is no longer truly Bran Stark. Rickon and Shaggy Dog where so bonded that they where almost the same person and died without days of each other. Nymeria like Arya went on her own journey became tougher stronger and more savage but retained enough of who they where at heart to still connect even though their reunion was short. Ghost became a warrior just like Jon and they are still together at the end.
Another perspective will be like; Lady dies -- Bran awakes Grewind dies -- Robs awakes before his final death Summer dies -- Uncle Benjin returns half human, half wight Shaggydog dies -- Recon dies
I think Nymeria is not abandoning Arya, she'll keep watch on her from a distance, and will come when Arya needs it most. But she can never go back to being a pet, she's too wild now, but she'll always love Arya.
Would have been nice for Arya to have had a moment with Nymeria in S8 but no, not budget, no time, need to show Tyrion arrange chairs for a minute or devote half an episode to the characters getting drunk the night before the battle of Winterfell. What was in Tyrion's drink, a glass of plot armour, because getting drunk and having no sleep should make you fairly easy pickings for the undead before too long.
I saw it as her letting Arya live because they had something once, but too much has happened since then, and it started with Nymeria being chased away and not understanding why. Now she has a pack of her own, and a 'former' friend shows up out of the blue and says "Come with me". She was stunned for a few moments once she recognized Arya, but then she snapped out of it like, "No. You can live, but I'm not going with you."
Stephanie Boyd it was a sad moment, curious, frightening, exciting ( look how huge Nymeria's gotten) and then sad. Like really, she didn't even get to hug her and then say goodbye.
Tbh it was a bit of a let down...I think Martin has more in store for Arya and Nymeria and for that I'm glad. In the show their true connection isn't explored.
In the books it is stated that of all of Ned's children, Arya and Jon resembled him the most. It is fitting that they are the only to have their direwolves survive.
Not really, as it can be debated that the wolves represent a spiritual connection to their northern roots. After all the direwolf is the sigil animal to house Stark.
When Arya says "That's not you" it is a reference to when Ned told her that she will be a lady of the house, and she responded with: "That's not me." This means that being tamed is not what Nymeria wants. She chooses to be wild.
Loved it when she said "that's not you". She knew at that moment the Nymeria she knew no longer existed. This wilderness is her home now. Same way Arya of winterfell no longer existed. She had her own purpose now.
Or...it could mean Arya belongs to her family the same way nymeria now belongs to her pack... And "that's not you" refers to Arya not being a merciless murderer.. Aaahh....who am I kidding... Carry on...
It's explained that it's about arya who ever since she was a little girl wasn't the type to do the typical thing & that the wolf refusing to go home with her is a symbol of how arya has always done her own thing like a lone independent wolf & running back home 'isn't her'...I guess this is the writer's idea of delaying Arya's reunions with her family
If george doesn't kill them first. Arya is a faceless man now, Nymeria can sense something is off. I think Bran will be key to recruiting Nymeria in the TV show.
This is one of my favorite scenes of all time. Arya gives the same recognition and understanding to others than she wants for herself. She understands that Nymeria's place is no longer by her side. She understands that Nymeria is independent, and happy, and free, and she doesn't push it.
Finally i think that Arya is talking about herself when she says "that's not you" both Arya and Naymeria has changed. The direwolfs are like the children Stark. Naymeria is free and so is Arya .
it's a reflection to when Ned was talking to he about being more of a lady and not be into sword play like she was when she young and she said"thats not me"
No, you’re not the only one! I love the dire wolves. When Arya tells Nymeria who she is and Nymeria recognizes her, brings tears to my eyes every time!
I wished Arya was chosen as queen of westeros at the eighth season of GoT, yes she does want to be a lady and marry for duty, but she does have her father's talents in leadership and combat plus she is smart enough to learn the dance of politics and would break down the traditions of the old ways so everyone women or men have a choice no matter their social class
I know Nymeria can't be the domesticated pet anymore and Arya understands that but still I feel they should have hugged or at least arya should have touched Nymeria's face once.
@@JP-sg2ql She is the second largest, Ghost is the biggest, in the books somewhere it mentions even though Ghost was the runt he quickly grew to be the biggest out his littermates.
Ned Stark in Season 1: "One day you'll marry a Lord and be a Lady of a large household" Arya: "No, that's not me" Arya Season 7: "I'm finally going home. Come with me." Nymeria walks away Arya: "That's not you" *Gooooosebumpsssss*
Nymeria's behaviour reflects on Arya's soul. She is a free spirit and she needs to be living an exciting and different life. "That's not you" is Arya realizing that a life within Winterfell is not what Nymeria wants, the same way it is not what Arya wants. I know she is going home, but she won't stay there forever. I guarentee Arya will leave to travel across the sea that's west of Westeros at the end of the series, probably with Gendry. It's foreshadowed in season 6.
Remember back at S01 when ned and arya are talking in Kings landing and ned says to arya that when she grow up she'll be a lady and marry a lord then arya replied "but thats not me" omg
nicely stolen but hey, this guy got 250 likes for it the time i m reading, might aswell try it myself Arya : Nymeria, come with me, come with me north. Nymeria: Sorry but CGI is needed for the dragons and battles, later.
this is one of those misinterpreted scenes that not a lot of people caught. This scene mirrors Ned's talk with Arya back in season 1. After Ned says "you will marry a high lord and rule his castle, and your sons will be knights, princes, and lords.", Arya responds with "no, that's not me." It's about letting go; Nymeria is no more a pet than Arya is a noble lady, both are wild at heart.
Ofcourse Nymeria wasn't going to kill Arya. Those 2 are linked like all the other starks and their wolves. Sadly ghost is the only other direwolf left.
Who else teared up when Arya learned it was safe to go back to Winterfell... more specifically at the prospect of seeing Arya and Jon reunite... only have Jon leave for Dragonstone a few moments later?
Max Harrison it really irritates me when they do that.. finally we can all see arya go back to winterfell. But not be reunited with her big brother... It's been 6 years and I still can't see arya be completely happy
something interesting in this scene is that there is not any hugging or cuddling (like when Jon reunities with Ghost). There is sadness in Nymeria's eyes, she loved Arya, she was her part (especially in books), and now she can't show her love, maybe because now she is a pack leader, and cant show weakness to her members (like Catelyn does when arrives at camp and sees his son). This makes this scene even sadder.
The world moves on without us. She knows it’s her but not the “her” that she knew years ago. This scene is meant to demonstrate that we as humans have a tendency to think of the world as waiting for us unchanged when we leave only to return. Everyone thinks of their childhood as a place frozen in time. As if they could go back home to exactly the same people and places unchanged while we have changed. The moral here is that life moves on without us.
This comment hit home for me. A sad truth. I often find myself using Google Earth to search for places where I used to live, play and learn as a child, hoping to rekindle lost memories and feelings but you are correct. Life moves on without us.
Kurt Taningco you can clearly see they used both CGI and camera angles in this scene, dude. it's not all camera angles like you're saying. the last shot when Nymeria leaves is absolute garbage because you can see it's obviously a normal-sized wolf.
I thought the exact thing... I thought Nymeria will come and will sacrifice all of her pack... But shit writing haphazard direction.... It ruined such a beautiful show
Nymeria looked so sad near the end. Like she knew everything that had happened. That the North was different now, and so much had gone wrong. It was perfect.
That look on Arya's face when Nymeria turns away, I like that she did take a moment to come to terms with it and then even realize with a very humored and proud look of how much they are like each other.
Nice reference :) That's not you, as in you want to follow your own path, just like Arya told her father, "that's not me" getting married and doing lady things.
Joseph Mills she did'nt trust Jon fully in s6 (not telling him about the Vale) but she did regret that in s7, she questions Jon's decisions But i do know that she loves her family and the north
One of my favorite parts of the books is the random bits of dialogue that mention a huge pack of wolves led by a gigantic wolf that have been attacking people, we always knew Nymeria was around and was being a badass.
what do you mean?? Arya says That's not You meaning Nymeria has to pick a different path than Arya wanted for her similarly to arya saying to her father in the first season. "no.. THat's not me" when talking about her plans for life it has nothing to do with bran Arya finds comfort in how similar her and her direwolf are. They are both too independent to have their choices made for them
+Kokos Richard Nymeria refused to accompany Arya because she is now leading a pack🐺 who needs her. Still at 1:54-2:26 you can see that she still recognizes and loves❤️ her former master, as well as how difficult😢 it is for her to leave Arya again. However, let's not be hasty, there are still some episodes left where Nymeria can come back to help Arya in the coming battles, and she may even get a chance to avenge some of her direwolf siblings☺️..
@@EvilSapphireR dorne story is cringe, euron greyjoy writing is cringe. Arya's story arc is really hard to manage for a show after bravoos and they didn't do bad. This scene was perfect and perfectly according to the books. Although we will see how the end will tie in the books for Arya, or maybe not since grrm is gonna die before finishing lol
The fact that Arya released Nymeria and so grant Her survival knowing that once domesticated she could be killed is something massively close to my heart and its SO TOUCHING Nymeria lived on 😍😍😍
+Michael Beyer Arya threw a stone towards her pet to get her running away so she wouldn't be killed for biting a-hole Joffrey😤, not to hurt her. And I'm sure Nymeria ended up understanding her master's forced decision (plus he hugged her😍). You can see at 1:54-2:26 in her eyes that the direwolf still loves Arya😊.
I think that line was a parallel from season 1 when Ned was telling Arya, she would marry a lord and all that shit, and she replied "That's not me". Same way Nymeria is not a pet wolf that follows around and take orders
Tuna Cici It's a call back to her season one line that she spoke to Ned ("No, that's not me). She's saying Nymeria belongs in the wild, not in a castle.
Tuna Cici it's the same thing she told ned when he told her she'll grow up to be a lady and marry a lord, "that's not me". Meaning she understands why Nymeria can't be that pet that will follow orders.
Nymeria was no longer that pet wolf who belonged to a little girl and Arya was no longer that girl. Nymeria home was now with her pack. She sensed the change in Arya and that's why she didn't go. Arya is now a faceless man. Nymeria spared her life because of what they once were to each other but now they are both something totally different.
Rameez Shaikh That's not strictly true. D & D have a big time hard on for the dragons. Hell, they're starting to feel overused, serving like an irritating cure all for Danny's tactical problems. Bring on more wolves! 🙏🙇🙏
Actually that was pretty smart. What could he do? Get the his sister killed? Even if he could have kill Euron, there was still a bunch of other dudes. Why should he suicide? Now he has atelast the chance to save his sister.
We'll never see her again. This scene gave closure for her, they can't bring her back it would undermine this whole scene. Also next time we see Arya she'll be much further north than the Riverlands.
Nah I recon that pack of wolves will save one of the stark family in the next seasons. You know all hope seems lost, nope, pack of wolves comes flying out of the forest with Nymeria at the lead.
+Alexander Ritchie I highly doubt it. The CGI for the dire wolves is apparently more expensive than for a dragon. I think the show runners would rather have an extra dragon scene. Additionally, why would the Starks head south towards the Riverlands? With 6 episodes left and the main battle almost certainly taking place near/at Winterfell I don't see how we could have them going south, certainly not before the final battle. Why do you think we'll get the scene you described? I have seen no evidence of this.
Or maybe, Nymeria knows, the whole family is coming back together as a pack. She is tied to Arya, just as Ghost is to Jon. The Direwolves all bonded to their Stark keepers. The pack has come together for S8.
GRRM said “you don’t add a wolf pack to just hang them up on the wall” we will see them in season 8, and I don’t feel like that would ruin this scene. It’s a reunion with a Stark and her soulmate. They are bound to meet again
Watching this with tears in my eyes. This was heartbreaking and I think it really represents how different Arya's life is and how she is completely separated from her younger self
I thought the same thing but it will be interesting to see ghost again soon. The books made ghost out to be by far the biggest also ghost is the dominant stark dire wolf in the books. I wish the series covered more on the dire wolves. The books make them out to have a much bigger part.
This scene is supposed to be symbolic of how Arya has changed since the beginning of the series. Just like Nymeria, Arya's been roaming around away from everyone she was close to, and has grown into someone different than the girl playing in the castle courtyard. Arya understands this, and her saying "that's not you" is a call back to season one, when Arya responded to her father's wish for her to be a Lord's wife with "that's not me." I think that Nymeria choosing to remain with her pack mirrors Arya's decision to rejoin what remains of her own pack at Winterfell, and while their reunion is an acknowledgement of the bond that they share, ultimately things cannot be as they once were.
One True David Adams My favourite was when Arya knows Jon is the King in the North. And decided to cancel her trip to Kings Landing and going to the North
Arya: Come back..
Nymeria: No budget. Sorry

Probably the smartest thing Maxine Waters has ever said lol
So true. Some day everyone makes this experience somehow in his own live. This scene is so profound. Everything else would've been sappy.
@Maxine Waters. I think it's a bit different than that, and more subtle. Both Nymeria and Arya were effectively forced out of their pack by outside aggressors (Arya let her go to save her life). Both are now far more wild than before and living different lives.

Arya has some more growing to do in Season 8. We'll see Nymeria again, but it will only be after Arya has fully reclaimed her own identity as a Stark of Winterfell.
Agree that's what the point of the scene was in Season 7 but I'd be shocked if we don't see Nymeria again in Season 8.

I know Nymeria can't be the domesticated pet anymore and Arya understands that but still I feel they should have hugged or at least arya should have touched Nymeria's face once.
I think it's better they left a bit of mystery and uncertainty.

Her facial expressions in this scene are impeccable. The slow transition. Makes the whole scene
Stephen NICE THOUGHT THO I'D DIG IT.

Arya realizes that Nymeria has a new life now and isn't attached to her anymore.
this is one of those misinterpreted scenes that not a lot of people caught.
This scene mirrors Ned's talk with Arya back in season 1. After Ned says "you will marry a high lord and rule his castle, and your sons will be knights, princes, and lords.", Arya responds with "no, that's not me."
It's about letting go; Nymeria is no more a pet than Arya is a noble lady, both are wild at heart.
Come with me Nymeria
I'm going home
Heartbreaking scene
Anyone else actually get a bit scared for Ayra's life here? I mean forreal, the last thing Nymeria remembers about her is that she threw a rock at her
Arya is protected my metric fucktons of plot armor. There's no way she's gonna die before her story is atleast completed
komoyodo yes. I was pretty scared
komoyodo At first when the horse was getting riled up, I thought White walkers were coming.
Ofcourse Nymeria wasn't going to kill Arya. Those 2 are linked like all the other starks and their wolves. Sadly ghost is the only other direwolf left.

Max Harrison it really irritates me when they do that.. finally we can all see arya go back to winterfell. But not be reunited with her big brother... It's been 6 years and I still can't see arya be completely happy
Max Harrison I did. I hope we get the Stark family reunion finally. I also liked Tyrone reaction when he learned Jon Snow was the North King!
Nymeria is alpha of her own pack now!
That's why she was bigger than the rest!
@@Elysia63 obviously because Nymeria is a direwolf while the others are not.
something interesting in this scene is that there is not any hugging or cuddling (like when Jon reunities with Ghost).

Thanks for the read mate. Sad and true

One of my favorite parts of the books is the random bits of dialogue that mention a huge pack of wolves led by a gigantic wolf that have been attacking people, we always knew Nymeria was around and was being a badass.
Nymeria is so huge! She still got that cute eyes though! Wished that the entire pack came with arya!
"Thats not you"
What a lovely callback
Lowkey one of the best scenes in this shows history. Beautiful work by Maise.
For anyone here after 8x05:
THAT HORSE SHOULD HAVE BEEN NYMERIA
That is all.
Even if the horse was Bran warging it, that would have helped too, ah that's why this horse came for her.
what do you mean??
Arya says That's not You
meaning Nymeria has to pick a different path than Arya wanted for her
similarly to arya saying to her father in the first season. "no.. THat's not me" when talking about her plans for life
it has nothing to do with bran
Arya finds comfort in how similar her and her direwolf are.
They are both too independent to have their choices made for them
Beautiful scene. The look into the scene at the end of the episode just made me realize how amazing this scene was. Well done!

Nymeria refused to accompany Arya because she is now leading a pack🐺 who needs her.

The fact that Arya released Nymeria and so grant Her survival knowing that once domesticated she could be killed is something massively close to my heart and its SO TOUCHING Nymeria lived on 😍😍😍
And what do we learn from this ?
Never throw stones at your dorm wolfe
Michael Beyer maybe he was gonna write dorne
+Michael Beyer
Arya threw a stone towards her pet to get her running away so she wouldn't be killed for biting a-hole Joffrey😤, not to hurt her. And I'm sure Nymeria ended up understanding her master's forced decision (plus he hugged her😍). You can see at 1:54-2:26 in her eyes that the direwolf still loves Arya😊.
Michael Beyer but she saved her by doing that ...l think Nymeria is not fair
That's not you ❤️
I still don't know what that exactly means, can someone tell me? :(
I think that line was a parallel from season 1 when Ned was telling Arya, she would marry a lord and all that shit, and she replied "That's not me".
Tuna Cici It wasn't really Nymeria. It was probably some other wolf.
It broke my heart when Lord Stark had to execute Lady and Arya had to drive Nymeria away with rocks. 😢
Sorry I can't come with you budget's too tight
Rameez Shaikh XD
Ehm have you seen the episodes recently? I can guarantee you the budget is not too tight for a fucking direwolf at this point
Grarvindur the creaters said it is really expensive to animate the direwolves so they use them only when it's necessary
Same applies to dragons
Rameez Shaikh That's not strictly true. D & D have a big time hard on for the dragons. Hell, they're starting to feel overused, serving like an irritating cure all for Danny's tactical problems. Bring on more wolves! 🙏🙇🙏
my fav scene was when reek jumped into the water

Darkdestination yeah that's what he was thinking before he jumped😂
You're sick, Ramsey!
I thought Maisie did such a great job in this scene. Her delivery of that last line was perfect yet heartbreaking.
When I first saw this scene I thought it was going to be a White Walker, lol.
you are dumb
The series never payed much attention to the wolves, as with the books.
Wolves are one of the most important plotlines in the books
and I hate that, those animals are such an important part of all the stark children and they completely ignore them
We'll never see her again.
Maybe the wolves head north. And by the way, Ghost is north, isn't he?
GRRM said “you don’t add a wolf pack to just hang them up on the wall” we will see them in season 8, and I don’t feel like that would ruin this scene. It’s a reunion with a Stark and her soulmate. They are bound to meet again
Am I the only one to feel that the wolves deserved ten times more than the screen time they got?
Watching this with tears in my eyes. This was heartbreaking and I think it really represents how different Arya's life is and how she is completely separated from her younger self
Nymeria will come back.
Btw she seems bigger than ghost doesn't she?
Tosta Mista Ghost was the runt so it's to be expected
Tosta Mista Also we have't seen Ghost since halfway through Season 6 and several months have passed.
Don't know. Haven't seen Ghost since a while.
Tosta Mista I did notice that. Just like drogon, those animal don't do well in captivity they grow up better when they are free
I thought the same thing but it will be interesting to see ghost again soon. The books made ghost out to be by far the biggest also ghost is the dominant stark dire wolf in the books. I wish the series covered more on the dire wolves. The books make them out to have a much bigger part.
Arya looks like a proud mother when she said "That's not you." :')
THIS is why we f*cking LOVE G.O.T !!!! So many emotions in 2 minutes ❤️
