  • This is rental car number 105 and today I'm driving the 2019 Hyundai Elantra SEL.
There's more details below, but I just wanted to quickly say ~thank you~ for watching my video. Please comment below and share your thoughts. Or just take a second and say 'Hey'. I'd love to hear from you. Cheers!

    NOTES:
    Year: 2019
    Make: Hyundai
    Model: Elantra
    Trim: SEL
Type: 4 door sedan and the 6th generation of the Elantra.
    Color: Silver
    MSRP: Starting around $19,400
Wheels: 16 inch silver aluminum wheels
    Engine: 2.0L 4-cylinder engine
Transmission: 6-speed automatic transmission with "SHIFTRONIC"
[Comment: "Shiftronic is just a marketing term Hyundai has created. What it means is that you can shift the gears manually by simply popping the gearshift to the left and then pushing it up or down.]
    Horsepower: 147
[Comment: may not seem like much, but it performs EXTREMELY well when you shift the car into "sport" mode". The jump in acceleration is THE most noticeable of any car I've had.]
    MPG City: 28
    MPG Highway: 37
    Fuel Tank Capacity: 14 gallons
    Cost for a full tank: $2.79/gallon x 14 = $39.06
Handling: Great. It feels tight around the corners and stable at any speed (at least, although I only took it up to about 85 mph)
Acceleration: Car and Driver lists a 0 to 60 time of 7.8 seconds and a top speed of 120 mph
[Comment: I did not test either of these stats.]
    Extras worthing talking about:
    + Blind-split collision warning
    + Lane Keeping Assist
    + Driver Attention Warning
    Final Thoughts:
This is my type of vehicle. It's reasonably price at nineteen thousand dollars, has some decent tech features and drives well. So...I'm pretty happy with it and I hope I get a chance to rent it again.

Great review! I have reviewed my fair share of Elantra models in the last couple of years, but I have yet to get my hands on a 2019 to do a Complete In-Depth Review. Luckily, I was able to talk to one of the Hyundai Representatives to get a little background for the reasoning behind this redesign.
Nevertheless, you did a great job displaying this vehicle. Hyundai has definitely given this vehicle a much more polarizing appearance, but I have heard a mixture of opinions: some people love the design while others no so much.
As always, keep up the great work! Can't wait for your next review.

Hey there I know this review is old but it actually has Lane keeping assist with lane centering control, if you go into the Driver Assistance features and change it to active LKA it will center you in the lane on the freeway above 40 miles an hour and actually steer around some slight curves, it works very well, I have this as a rental and I am glad I found the settings to change it

I drive a 2017 Limited and while I can’t really agree with the new front end (though the LEDs are really nice) I can’t recommend this car quickly enough. Higher trims will get you garage door openers (something I frankly don’t care about), keyless entry, an absolutely superb navigation system, and helpful (for long drives at least) adaptive cruise control. This thing’s a winner, and I think it’ll probably continue to be Hyundai’s sales leader.

I’ve rented one and my complaints are1. Excessive road and tire noise. 2. Front driver/ passenger seat belts are bitch to find and click if you are in a hurry. 3. Departure lane is not reliable if your road has faint or no visible solid bright lines and not reliable around curves AT ALL. Don’t risk it. What I like is 1. Very zippy and easy to maneuver despite sometimes vague steering pending what’s your chosen drive mode. 2. Nice Bluetooth. No drop offs and last 3. Quite smooth engine on idle with no vibration at all. Overall 3.5 out 4 for what is meant to be a cheap decent daily transport.

The SEL has the projector headlights. Driving in the country at night is different. There is a distinct line between illuminated and not. Kind of weird when you have been driving old school sealed beams, bad reflectors for 46 years. this car gets alot of negative reviews from supposed car journalist, not sure why, it's a much better car than my old 2012 Elantra. driving that car you felt every damn bump in the road even if the road wasn't that bad to drive on lol. not to mention someone only my size at 5ft8 had trouble getting in the car, the new one is improved in almost every category. the only thing that is the same is the acceleration, that is something I can't deny with my old Elantra. it is one of the quicker compact cars I've driven, though 0 - 60 in 7.8sec is unlikely if I'm being honest. maybe if the car drove itself lol. I can see maybe 8.5, that's about what the normal Honda Civic is without the turbo. my cousin has one and his is the LX version no turbo. the only compact cars I know of that can hit under the 8 second mark is the Chevy Cruze which is no longer in production, the Mazda 3, the 2.4l version. the 2.0 Mazda 3 is about the same as this Elantra and the Civic.the Ford Focus which is another American car they stopped making as far as I know. that had 160hp just from a base motor no turbo, and the Dodge Dart which was actually the first American car that stopped production a few years before the Cruze. the Corolla is actually a little slower than this Elantra.

I own a 2017 Elantra. They have a 2.0 Atkinson cycle variant of the Nu engine. I would stay away. Mine, and according to many reports the dealer told me they get, is they make a loud ticking/tapping noise when cold. It sounds like a diesel. Dealer reported Hyundai said it was normal because the metal shrinks in cold weather. I have never ever had a car do this in cold weather and I have had my fair share of bombs. I bought it used so am only covered up to 60000 miles. I said to Hyundai ok if this is so normal cover my car to the full 10 year 100000 mile warranty. They just keep giving me the run around. I mean if there is no issue with the car it would not cost them anything to give the full powertrain warranty. I have no confidence in the longevity of this engine and unfortunately it looks like they are putting these in more models. Also I think these engines are in the Kia Forte and other Kia models.

6 16CivicMT I drive a 2017 Limited, I think some models that aren’t the rental car spec have keyless entry, definitely the sport and limited and ultimate, anyway. Hyundai has done switchblade keys in the past, there must be some reason why they went back. Probably some liability thing. Honestly, if all cars go to keyless entry, I won’t be bothered. Old style keys are a pretty small criticism of this car.
