The voice is world class, he was robbed at the Cardiff singer. He should have won the Main Prize at Cardiff - they sacrificed voice over glitz & glamour. He is totally ALL voice - it's all in his voice - not a showy performance like many others. Superb.

It was an amazing instrument seven years ago, but he has worked out the kinks since then. It is now much clearer, and the top is better integrated. IMHO.
@@ceriellis1090 I'm not hearing the squillo produced by the great singers of the past this is a live recording not a studio one, I'm not hearing the ring I hear in Bastianini, Warren, Ruffo, Merrill etc. Being successful these days is not contingent on the use of squillo etc as most of the modern audience don't know what it is imho. It's a warm rich voice but does not sound like a verdi baritone to me.
@@jezamania Aye it's much easier to sell a fat rich voice to an audience I agree though I think that sitting on the other side of a recording and nitpicking a wonderful voice is just so pointless, especially since you're already removed from the experience
@@ceriellis1090 lack of squillo is not nitpicking...every singing voice should have squillo in it, certain voices types like verdi baritones and heldentenors simply have more.
@Daniel Bouhadana really old recordings like grammaphones have a lot of distortion but one can still hear squillo as it is a specific quality of sound. The recordings both audio and visual from the 50's onwards are more reflective of greater squillo production imho.

Definitivamente es barítono, pero está muy engolocinado, si su emisión fuera más franca. Rompe el legato esa ocuridad artificial, una pena.

Totally agree. More clarity and thus more power and squllo nowadays. Such pleasure to see such quality singing back on the scenes today!

He is singing at the great opera houses now!

Rich and warm but where's the Squillo?
It's most definitely there, even if it can't be felt over a recording his voice wouldn't be as successful as it is without it

E' bravo ma ha bisogno di un buon maestro per curarne meglio la voce
A me pare un po ingolata e urlata ...
Direi proprio di no...ci fossero voci così

Nice tone. The sound is falling back in his throat however- does not bode well for a long Verdi career.
🤣🤣🤣 I recommend you to watch Leonard Warren, Giuseppe Taddei, Ettore Bastianini)))) you should do it, my dear)))
Great voice - but does he really know what he is singing? I mean, his gesture comes straight out of the very past
I know what you mean, but that can be worked on in performance with a decent director. Voices like this need nurturing.
It was technically flawless but boring, Compared to greats like Hvorovstovsky or Bastianini of course
Simon Estes version is still my favorite to this day.
Compare Hvorovstovsky to Bastianini it's a shame

@@cristianionita8359you mean recordings of Bastianini? No doubt he was one of the greatest. But, unfair to compare recordings to live voices.
Bastianini easily wins even when comparing live performances.@@michelletsend-ochir7162
