    Nice indeed. I have been to Rome 34 times. I would also recommend taking a coach from the airport . The company I like to use is called ( TAM ) the ticket cost is €9 return and takes just under an hour depending on the traffic and stops at Termini station. And yes you can do alot in just a few days . Rome is safe, great food and waiters. I am living in Malta right now and it's only an hour flight to Rome. God how I wish I was back in beautiful Rome, I'm getting all Jelly here 😜. Now here's how I would like to plan out my day. First Trevi fountain, Pantheum, Spanish Steps, and then lunch in Piazza del Popolo. That's the morning and afternoon covered. Anyways I could go on and on here but this video is all about you guys and not me 💕. Nice to hear a young couple having fun in Rome. Ciao ciao.

      Glad you liked the video! We didn't use any skip the line passes at the Vatican and St. Peter's; when we went the security line for the basilica was only ~10 mins and then another 10 min for the dome elevator (no line for the stairs). However, we also visited when crowds were very small due to both the season and pandemic, so things may be a bit different as summer season picks back up!

    By memory (people correct me if I'm wrong) entry into the colosseo is €12. Guided tour with access all areas 2 yrs ago when I last went home was €15. Vale la pena.
    My personal tip for return travellers is to book your tickets for musei Vaticani online and get there about half hour before doors open. Last time we went we bypassed all else and went straight to la cappella and my daughter had the outstanding honour of opening the doors.
    Another suggestion would be to try St Peter underground. Truly unique.

      Depending on the time of year you go, there will be LONG LINES, and I do mean LONG to get into most attractions in Rome in summertime. • @DiversifiedDiversions
      @DiversifiedDiversions  Před rokem +1

      Not too bad, maybe about 20 minutes! After the elevator, you exit onto this rooftop area where you can explore on your own and there's a little shop. Then when you are ready, you go into the interior of the cupola where you can overlook the actual basilica from above. After that, you really start to squeeze into little walkways and staircases before popping out at the very top for the amazing view! 😍

    It's the first time I see someone suggest one of the best things to do in my beloved town: climb the damn cupola! It's so underrated but it's the best view you can get both of the city AND of the interior of St Peters.
    I also agree with all the other suggestions but one: I always would recomend to take a guide (and not only in Musei Vaticani), otherwise it's very easy to overlook something wonderful...

      I live in a high rise condo. I exercise by climbing the interior (fire) stairs. You mentioned there were 551 steps (after the elevator ride!!!). That's a heck of a climb. In my building, it's 14 steps per story so this represents a 39 stories climb. Wow, that's beyond my old body's ability. I'm good for 20 but no more. Thanks for the info.

    • @mariocioffi188
      @mariocioffi188 Před rokem

      @@bill9989 hi! To my knowledge (internet) 551 is the TOTAL number of steps if you DO NOT take the elevator.
      If you take it you will skip about 200 of them in the renovated and less fascinating part of the climb.
      As far as I can remember steps vary a lot during the climb, from long "horse steps" to short steep steps in the final spiral stairs.
      The climb starts with the renovated large, tiled stairs in the huge pillars to the internal balcony, out to a spectacular external balcony over the square, and then climbs inside the curved walls of the cupola to end with a very narrow spiral stair that leads to the top, just under the cross. A little short of the total 133 metres (436 ft).
      It's not too hard for an adult in decent conditions. It gets narrow, so if you are very large or suffer from claustrophobia I wouldn't suggest it.

    • @bill9989
      @bill9989 Před rokem +1

      @@mariocioffi188 Mario, thanks so much for your very detailed response. That changes a lot for my decision. I might do it.
      Can I ask you one more question? Do the people coming down use the same stairs as the people going up? From the descriptions of the narrow, claustrophobic stairs, it seems that might be a problem in passing.

    • @DiversifiedDiversions
      @DiversifiedDiversions  Před rokem +1

      I think Mario is right! We saw 551 steps on the warning sign after the elevator ride, so we definitely assumed it was from that point. And we certainly weren't counting! 🤣
      If I recall correctly, we came down via different set of stairs than we went up, so we didn't bump into people. We also went near closing time so there were not a lot of people after us!

    Excellent video. So, is it true that a Vatican guided tour purchased from the official site does not give you access to St. Peter's Basilica? Apparently private tours have the opportunity to use a quick entrance, which bypasses the long lines outside.

    • @DiversifiedDiversions
      @DiversifiedDiversions  Před 2 lety

      Thank you! We booked our tour directly as well, but it was just for the Vatican Museums, not the Basilica. We did that completely on our own. And since we went in November 2021, there weren't really any long lines to skip at the time! I'm sure that has changed now. 😆

    Victor Emmanuel II was the first kind of unified Italy (1861), not king of Rome; If anything, he was king of Piedmont-Sardinia before becoming king of Italy. We have no pre-imperial tombs of the kings of classic Rome, and after the fall of the empire the rulers were the Popes (which are generally entombed in the Grotte Vaticane, under Saint Peter).

      I think three days would be the minimum amount of time if you want to make sure you can see all the major highlights in the city center and still have time to relax over meals and not feel overwhelmed. I'm also curious to know from others if that is enough time depending on when you go! We got lucky when we went it was not very crowded which saved a ton of time.
