    1. Maintain downward pressure from starting point to ending point. (press all the way through from the starting fret to the ending fret)
    2. Memorize the starting and ending fret by your muscle memory to slide confidently.
    3. Avoid moving the whole hand, make sure only your finger is moving. the thumb must remain in one spot and must act as an anchor point.

      Hi!
      Maybe I can kindly ask you some advice…
      basing on this video my sliding should be alright, however when I play on an amp I hear to
      Much of the “scratching” on the string, even if the movement is quite sharp and there’s no buzzing. I sometimes enjoy that effect but when it is too loud doesn’t feel right. What that might depend on? Many thanks for any answer 😆

    Light bulb I didn't know your thumb wasn't suppose to move. I just bought a Martin Jr. I'm 71 and I quit playing for 20 years. I've been at it for 9 months. I'm on my 7th song I've written. I'm excited all over again. Someone told me if you get bored playing just lean a new song. It works better when you write a new song.

    2 questions: 1. How to go about long slides of 8-10 frets (like 10 fret 2 string slide in blackbird) which will require thumb movement?
    2. any tips for sliding down (from 4 to 2) and maintaining volume?

    • @tacguitar
      @tacguitar  Před 7 lety +47

      Andrew, Awesome question for longer slides. I feel like it is really important to develop the "illusion" of the long slide. Meaning starting off strong and giving the impression of direction. As long as you maintain pressure the slide you will be able to perceive the slide :-) (so thumb movement is definitely necessary here :-) ). Here are my thoughts on reverse slides taken from another question below: Reverse slides are difficult and the number one thing is to maintain that downward pressure and move efficiently. Since with a reverse slide we are effectively lengthening the string it is important to transfer as much energy as possible into that string by making quick, accurate, and efficient slides. :-)

    A tip that also will improve the slides and helping you to keep the tone nice is to start on the 4th fret with your pinkie. Pick the tone slide in on the same fret with your 3rd finger and not loose anything of tone. When you can do this with all 4 fingers on the same fret you will absolutly have improved your sliding skills.. :-)

    Great tips. But I will stick to my own style of practice, which is learning super complex songs and feeling like a noob for a month and then after two months mastering the super complex song and all the techniques used in it. I used this style to sings ultra complex Indian Classical songs. I am learning to play guitar and sing western style now. Notes are the same but the way they are structured is different.
