Fall In 2023 Convention Recap

- "Fall In" is one of the largest historical wargaming shows in the USA, and the 2023 show was a blast! The convention was well attended and we saw some fantastic games when several of the Little Wars TV guys stopped by on Saturday. We hit the vendor hall, raided the flea market, met old friends from across the country, and filmed more than a few memorable games. In this video report, we bring you a tiny slice of the weekend festivities.
And is truly is just a snapshot of the vast number of games and events being run from Thursday through Sunday. If you want the full HMGS show experience...come visit one! The crowds at these conventions enthusiastic and exceptionally welcoming to gamers of any experience level.
Fall In 2023 was held at the Wyndham in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. All of us who attended this show owe a huge "thanks" to the volunteer staff of HMGS, the Historical Miniatures Gaming Society, for putting on another successful convention. I learned that Miles is a lot taller in person. That’s my main take away this convention.

Tony. Investments? Priceless. Though you either intentionally or accidentally failed to mention whether they were profitable or not. You should offer your consulting services to gamers who are having “investment “ issues with their significant others and credit card companies. Nice work boys. Cheers.

Lancaster, PA is where I used to order APBA sports games from back in the 80s.
Saturday seemed a bit light, but Friday was PACKED with people and games. I had a GREAT time, as always. GREAT venue. I will miss Cold Wars being cancelled this year, but Historicon is only 8 months away.... Good showing by dealers this weekend as well.
2:16 - The Star Wars miniatures being used here were the ones from West End Games Star Wars Miniatures Battles from 1990 and its Companion in 1994. The minis were sold in boxed sets and blister packs; although marketed as 25mm, they were definitely smaller.
WEG's Star Wars Miniatures was winner of the 1991 Origins Award for Best New Miniatures Rules.

Also... Varus minis has some 15mms STL files for Star Wars
Perhaps the Bantha was, but the rest of the minis were from not West End Games. Some were from Galoob's Micro Machines line of Star Wars miniatures.
So is it the opinion of most people that this was the rule set for the Star Wars game?@@LittleWarsTV

I really enjoyed myself too. It was a great con with lots of cool games. I do wish I got into that great looking All Quiet on the Martian Front game. The extras- a land ironclad carrier, biplanes, and human mecha just looked amazing! I bet they had a blast. I personally enjoyed learning about Heavy Gear and getting in several games of it. Easily one of my best HMGS con experiences ever. Next time I'll keep an eye open for you guys.

I went, determined not to spend a dime. At Diabolical I found a 28mm Caribbean pirate fortress I had been coveting since I saw it in the artwork in the Blood And Plunder rules set. I tried to get one years ago, but cost and availability convinced me it was simply never gonna happen. They made me an offer I could not refuse. 😊😊😊

Big fan of All Quite on the Martian Front. The Con looked fun. I haven't made a Fall in yet, but might see you guys at Historicon next year. I'm going to start using the term "Investment" .

Dad says that the stuff I paint is too darn tiny to see and soon, I won’t be able to see it too. So perhaps Tripods = future retreat point?
@@lordhamster9452 They have a new Kickstarter to re-release the game. The models are big, but not as big as the first release. You can get the STL files and make them as big as you want I guess.
Every one of those games masters should have made a video of their playthrough and posted it on their yt channel, or leased the recording to LWTV for their quality editing and revenue sharing.
Then we can all enjoy those amazing setups.
We’d be sharing literal nickels of wealth! Haha. CZcams ad revenue is so pathetic that we usually just disable it intentionally. It’s not even worth the viewing hassle. It would take a lot of manpower to film entire convention games, and the audio would be a disaster (way too loud in these spaces), but the sentiment is certainly shared. There are so many cool games to see and it would be great to find ways to share more of them beyond the peeks we show

Damn those tripods and land dreads look cool. I feel pretty bad that I have a land-ship project already, since there’s an new expansion for Martian front coming out. (With cool new Jerries) You gotta pick your battles I guess.

This is the first show in many years that we didn’t run anything! Just there to browse. Challenging scheduling weekend for a number of reasons. But we will no doubt be back in force at Historicon!

Those are house rules I made based on a set of pod racing rules, which was a modded version of X-wing miniature rules.
Thanks to Little Wars TV for the shout out! I'm still working on the rules, but I'll make them available when they are ready. I'll be running it again at H-con and possibly Muster.
Purchase vs. investment - nice rationalization! Reminds me of a response the question, I'm contemplating getting into 25/28mm Napoleonics, what do you think? Response: I'd recommend a serious recreational drug habit instead, it will be cheaper in the long run...

Back in the day, that’s what we used to call it in school textbooks! The whole “American War of Independence” lingo is a more recent push. 20 years ago in school it was just “the Revolution.”
Ha, I'm old enough to be taught that it was The Revolution. We only added "American" when we found out that other coyntries were copying the idea 😅

Looks like a lot of fun! I'll be missing our Millennium Gaming Convention in Texas this year. Now I don't want to poop on anyone's party, but I think I saw a tv broadcasting a football game @ 5:35. A tv broadcast of anything during a miniatures game would be a major distraction, for me at least. Otherwise, great looking tables and minis!

Did I miss something ! ? No warhammer 40k or age of sigmar ? 40k is my favorite sci fi of all time and the best table top game iv played. The only I dont like about it is the price lol That War of the Worlds looks wicked !

They need to keep those damn dealers open until the con officially closes. I could only come up on Sunday and it was a wasted trip from Baltimore
HMGS does try to insist on dealers staying through Sunday, but some do load out a bit early. I get it-Sunday is usually a slow day for them and some travel quite far to get to the shows. Friday is often the busiest day in the dealer hall, followed by Saturdays
Crowds seem thin?
The game shown at 3:50 is NOT Volley and Bayonet, but Carnage and Glory Computer Moderated.
Oddly, the sign at the table said “Volley and Bayonet Rules.”
Didn't see the sign but the units all have CG number tags. I have never seen a Volley and Bayonet game with unit tags.@@LittleWarsTV

W.A.M.P along with several other wargaming groups have a games day held at Covenant United Methodist Church, 212 W Springfield Rd, Springfield PA 19064 once a month on a Saturday. The next one is the 18th Nov and the following one is 2nd December. The time is 9am - 7pm. The cost is $5 for the day. Just show up and introduce yourself.

No sir! Plenty of teenagers here actually. It’s an older crowd overall, but lots of kids younger than 17. There are guys playing games as young as 10 I’d say. And everyone is very welcoming and encouraging of younger gamers. I was attending HMGS shows at 14 when my parents had to drive me and drop me off for the day!

25mm Star Wars, not 15mm. Back then 25mm was 25mm, scale creep is the bane of our hobby.
