Little Wars TV Closing
After a near-continuous 5 year run of weekly videos, Little Wars TV is hitting "pause" on channel production. But not for the reasons you may think! We certainly aren't tired of playing historical wargames.
With our fourth season now wrapped, it's the perfect time to tear apart the club for a massive renovation. This top-secret project has been in the works for a year and right now the power tools are banging away inside the club. We'll see you on the other side, gaming friends!
We are especially grateful to our incredible channel patrons for enabling us to invest back into the club war room in such a big way. We want to say "thank you" the best way we know how--our first-ever, patron exclusive wargame episode! If you're not a Patreon supporter, don't worry. We are not shifting to premium content or a future paywall. Whenever we return to CZcams after the renovations, our wargames will be right here, 100% free to watch, just as they have always been from the beginning.
When will we be back? No idea. Click SUBSCRIBE and we'll see you when we see you!

    Michael Taylor be quiet and do not speak about Phyrrus of Epirus. You are a grain of sand in a beach. When you speak these foolish things about Phyrrus you sound ignorant. Who are you to rank him pretty low? A nobody that’s who. You say he didn’t have the capacity to know what he’s fighting a war for? Why you idiot he fought for his empire’s security, territory, troops and resources. Phyrrus is useful on how not to think about war? That is another ignorant statement because Phyrrus was a brilliant strategist and led his troops by personal courage and experience. “Because of a total lack of strategic vision basically fails everywhere…” this is another stupid statement. It depends what you see as failure, you do not understand the mindset of military in ancient times, you do not understand how culture and tradition worked back then. Phyrrus actually would fight the other leader 1 vs 1 before the battle, which he did many times and won, meaning that he was a reflection of what was tough at the times. “…Never holds on to macedonia…” this is another ignorant statement because he won Macedonia but gave it away. The tile dropped on his head was a dishonorable move by a Greek that stunned Phyrrus in a duel 1v1 that’s how he lost, he would’ve won that duel! An assistant professor who sits behind books and sounds like a modern fool cannot review Phyrrus of Epirus, because he is not well read and is just a pupil. 90% of his remarks are ignorant.

    For me, someone new to all war gaming, it seems it goes in phases. I've been trying this hobby for a year. As I am now looking outside Gamesworkshop, I see the appeal of historical games. I think, as a new comer and anecdotally, gamers mature into historical. 40k pulling in new players, skirmish games when you're done with that, then historical when you're done with that.

    The Pacific didn’t flesh out the characters enough for the viewer to relate to. With the exception of Basilone and Sledge- the rest of them sort of blended together. It was hard to identify each guy because they all sort of looked similar and instead of taking a break from combat to develop the storyline further, in the beginning it was almost constant firefights. I’m sure the way the Marines were portrayed was more accurate but as far as shows go- they totally missed the mark.

    I mean maybe its because I'm a Marine, but I like the Pacific over Band Of Brothers. It shows the sheer brutality of the war in the pacific. How Marines, and I guess the army😏, were thrown into these battles that were absolutely brutal.

  • @seanperson2032
    @seanperson2032 Před 8 dny

    In my eyes, the 3 storyline thing is the main reason why i dont like the Pacific nearly as much as BoB. They needed to pick a smaller, specific unit like in BoB and follow their path through the war. And also fix the pacing, 3 whole episodes on Pelilu when the other episodes somehow span 4.5 years just.... doesnt work.

    The more I think about this game, the more I really admire several aspects of it. The movement system really took me a while to get my head around (the reasoning behind it) but then it made sense to implement it this way. It's focusing on the movement that matters; the movement of the combatants relative to each other, not to the map. I mean, we could stage a game of the Run To The South at Jutland, for example, where the ships are covering dozens of miles in the course of the fight, but don't really change their position relative to each other. So why bother modeling that movement? This system totally started to make sense to me then. The only thing that I'm scratching my head over is how you tackle a situation where the opposing admirals will change their position to each other without the necessity of issuing orders or changing course. If the opposing fleets begin the action on reciprocal courses, steaming straight at each other, then it really shouldn't require executing a move for the range to decrease, should it? I think I'm going to have to buy the full rules pack to get a better mental picture of it all. 🙂

    I wonder how the film did in Japan. Most Texans do not know this, but in Japan, the story of the Alamo is recounted in nearly every school and is very famous. That is because this story represents everything Japanese culture values in a soldier. I discovered this one day during a visit to the Alamo. I encountered a group of Japanese tourists who were behaving in an extremely reverent manner. I struck up a conversation with a couple of the English speakers and they explained to me the importance of the Alamo in their culture. They told me that they felt that it was an honor just to walk the battleground. They said to me that the Alamo defenders were revered in Japan because they fought courageously, without hope and without complaint. Later, I had occasion to visit Japan, and I was asked by a gentleman where in the United States I was from. When I answered "Texas", he replied, "Oh, Alamo!"
