    MESSAGE FROM 2021: During my time in Myanmar, I saw plenty of amazing sights, but there was one constant: the people. Always smiling, always kind and always welcoming. I’ve never known hospitality like it in all of my travels… But these kind people are currently being denied basic rights by an evil military junta who refuse to recognise democracy. Protesters are being detained and everyone is under a full internet blackout. I stand with the people of Myanmar against this oppression 🇲🇲

      thank you for using your platform to promote awareness about myanmar and standing with the people. the people are suffering so much right now, children, elderly. the military is not discriminating who to shoot. so far 18 have died in 3 weeks of peaceful protests. body count is climbing fast. Please help, the narrow window of opportunity for this beautiful nation to grow is closing fast :(

      @@kurumimatsumoto8331 I think it's amazing the Karen soldiers are the oldest gorilla army in the entire world and they have been bravely fighting the ruthless monsters of the myanmar military for decades. I've known about the Karen war with Burmese military, the ethnic cleansing and destroying of villages is absolutely horrific. The Myanmar military has been getting away with crimes against humanity for too long now. I know it has been hard to be ignored by the world for so many years, and my heart goes out to your husband and his people, but I hope now with all the violence being exposed in all of Burma to the international world, I hope soon there will be PEACE, not only for Burmans but for all of Burma including Karen, Chin, Shan and all the different ethnic tribes that are part of the country's identity.

    THIS! You articulated so many of my thoughts on Myanmar so well. Absolutely with you that Myanmar is unlike anywhere else in the world. In my two weeks there I was blown away by the food, the places and most of all, the people. I wanted to see Shwedagon as night falls, but had to hurry off to a streetfood tour (which was absolutely amazing). I wanted to visit the Snake Temple, but ran out of time - so I'm glad you got these in your video. 😃 Couple of other places in Yangon I loved - the Abandoned Amusement Park (next to the Zoo) and the Htwe Oo Puppet Show (in the puppet master family's living room!) - did you experience those too? I would also encourage people who are pondering the question of whether to visit Myanmar (not only to think about how many countries commonly visited also have attrocities being committed by their governments in one shape or form) but also to read the excellently written book "The River of Lost Footsteps: A Personal History of Burma" to understand the context of this fragmented land where conflicts in its borders have been ongoing long throughout history.

      Thanks for your objective views and insights on Myanmar. Most people, especially in the West are misinformed about the country or they don't really know the story behind the story as presented by the news media. Instead of trying to find out about the real situation (I am not talking only about Myanmar) by going to a certain destination and see for themselves, they just want to stay in their comfort zones and soak in everything what the media tells them. Enough said! (because I don't want to get into political debates, particularly on travel blogs).

    • @XennialTraveller
      @XennialTraveller Před 4 lety +4

      @@chosett Well, politics affects everything. And nothing is ever truly "black and white", so my point (and I think yours and Ryan's too) is that people should really think more for themselves, and not close off a place because of a simple narrative presented. :) Myanmar really is a great country (I don't agree with everything the government is doing, but that goes for almost all countries I can think of), and I look forward to visiting again in future.

      Also ...Myanmar is a union of states...
      Since it’s inception different ethnic minorities have wanted self rule...Shans, chins, Karen, Rohingya, Mons etc etc......( as in other parts of the world) ....for most people these states out out of bounds and so a visitor, as well as most Myanmar people wouldn’t go anywhere near troubled spots. The overwhelming majority of burmese people are among the nicest, kindest and most humble people you could meet.

    I really appreciated how you show this side of Myanmar. I'm Burmese and I've actually never seen a foreigner viewing like you guys did. In news abroad like CNN or BBC they would make Myanmar the "villain" and everything like ethnic cleansing. There is always 2 sides to a problem and people need to be open minded too. Racism could be the issues but who knows? What the soldiers and armies did, we citizens won't shoulder it. I don't think many people know but there are wars throughout the year. Internal conflicts happen all the time with the states. People burn villages and attack again and violence never end like a cycle. The Rohingya conflict is just ONE of them. I'm not covering up for my own country, but you should know this; our country was brainwashed for MANY years and live in fear but only changed a few years ago with the change of military junta to democracy. The citizen's opinions were never voiced out and although Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is leading democracy, she can't be president because of a ridiculous law only aiming at her and she can't shoulder all problems from decades ago. So I hope people would understand the BEAUTY of Myanmar
