The Fujifilm 18-55mm is the best kit lens I've ever used. That being said, I just switched to the Z6 with a 24-70mm, so I'm pretty stoked to compare!
Lumix mft 12-60 kits were nice as well
the Canon 24 - 105 F4. Great lens.
Completely agree with you. This lens is stunning. This is the perfect video lens, it rarely loses focus and the zoom range is perfect for run and gun videography.
This little lens is sharper than the latest F mount 24-70 2.8, I have had super sharp 24x36 inch prints from it on the Z7/Z7II.
it really is good but people can't get past the "kit" bit
1:20 "There is something about it." This is the Nikon experience. You can't quite explain it using mathematics, or specifications. But there is something beautiful about Nikon. I'll never forget the first experience using Nikon with my D3300 with the kit lens. The D3300 is so razor sharp, I am really finding it impossible to switch to another brand of camera. Nikon clearly cares about their customers, and not just specifications and numbers.
I don't dispute for one second that Nikon experience is excellent. I do love Nikon colours but I also use Panasonic, Fuji, Sigma and Sony cameras .... only Sony, although spec wise way above the rest, has got worse colour than Nikon. Rest are very similar
Call me biased. I'm a grandfather now and have been using Nikon since my teen years.
My first was an F2 (back in the film days) later switched to digital. Have recently switched to the Z line about a year ago.
Nikon may not be the most advanced cameras. But their lenses and colors are second to none.
I also have Nikon D3300. Using it since 2016. I love its compact body and versatility in photography for different genera. I mainly using this camera for macro photography. Switching to mirroless Nikon Z7ii.

Great review! I personally believe that the only annoying thing about this lens is the heavy lens correction that Nikon applies to its profile. Something that also cannot be controlled through Lightroom or ACR as it is embedded in the raw file. So at 24mm, the lens loses much of its field of view in regards to other 24-70 lenses.

Hi - thanks for the review - what gimbal did you use at the end of the video and is Nlog easy to grade.
I use Zhiyun Crane 2 and N-Log is easier to grade than Sony's S-log

Hi, which lens would be better as a prime/first one for nikon z5, specially if I'm also planning to do some paid job with it: this one, nikkor 24-200mm f4-6.3 or just a regular nikkor 50mm f1.8?
Although I am a HUGE fan of 50mm lenses, I have to say that any of those two zooms will be more versatile for you. I had no chance to use 24-200 Nikon lens yet but I do like those super zooms for their range
Some call it a kit lens cause it comes with the camera.
I find myself using it for most of the pictures I take. (my everyday carry)
Not the preferred lens for astro-photography but I did get me some nice images of the milky-way.
I still use it more than I ever expected I would - great lens
Just ordered a "near mint" used copy for £400. All the reviews make this sounds like a cracking small lens to make up my walkabout / travel kit.

I recently switched from my first dslr nikon d5500 and bought a z6 kit. I was shocked by the image quality of the 24-70 f4 s. I really asked myself is this really a "kit Lens" ?? It felt more like a proper lens i would use on a photo or video paid job because of the image quality and the great focusing it offers
I do use this 24-70 f4 on paid commercial jobs regularly

I parted with all my older DSLRs when I purchased my Z6 about a year ago.
I did keep a RED D5500 and a couple of lenses for sentimental reasons.
I bought the nylon z6ii and bought the "kit lens 24-70mm f4". I got it cause I thought it's cheaper to buy at a kit and that I will just give it away to my friend. But after using it I was blown away. I have the holy trinity of nylon f mount lenses and this kit lens just blows the f mount lens out of the water. Like the f mount 24-70mm f2.8 was inferior in image quality than this so called " kit lens".
And my only complain was that the images are sharp like disturbingly sharp.
I decided to keep the lens 😂🤣

this and most of the new breed of lenses for mirrorless cameras don't have dramatic drop off in sharpness wide open or when aperture is closed. This lens in my opinion performs very well across the board

This was my favorite kit lens ever...until I tried the Canon 24-105mm, the canon is bigger tho but gives you more reach, also is sharper.
I use Sony 24-105 f4 - this is way better quality
@@PavSZ good to hear that. When Tony NOrthrup testet the Nikon vs the Sony 24-105, the Sony was much sharper. Couldn't 100% believe that as many reviews showed that the 24-70 is impressive. I'm looking for a comparison to Fuji zoom lenses but couldn't find one yet. I'm still not sure if I should go for Nikon Z6 or Fuji :)

The lens is Very light!? It’s the heaviest kit lens I’ve ever handled.. the build quality of the 24-70 is very very good imo.

Sharp indeed but the reason why I sold it was because of F4. Like that's it
unfortunately wide aperture of f2.8 or f1.8 doesn't really make a lens better (or worse). I shoot a lot of food photography commercially with 50mm f1.4. Always set to f4. That's were it needs to be to give me the best results that I need in that type of photography. This lens can surely deliver high pro results at f4
For Zoom lens, paying for more F is waste for me. It not increase quality.
I pay for prime lens instead if I need more F. Better quality.

I'm really tired of the kit lens term. It refers to a cheap lens that is included with a camera to meet a price point. This is a S lens. The finest lens lineup that Nikon makes. The lens arguably is one of the best lenses that Nye-Kon has ever made.

Those photos you are showing, especially the cow, just jump off the screen. I can't recall seeing any test photos from any other camera reviews having the same artistic impression on me. It's subjective, but it seems universally agreed upon that Nikon has some of the best color science, and photo science of any company.

Sorry but as a working pro using Nikon gear (Z9, D5, Z6ii) I have to say build quality is cheap and image quality is sub-par.
the image quality this lens produces is not a problem. It would not be a problem for 99% of clients who paid for photography. It might not deliver desired results or it might not please you as a creative but it is sharp and it is certainly good enough for professional work.
Clients do not care about those things, we photographers do.
It is not build like Nikon lenses used to be, fact but it is also very cheap, especially when bought with a camera
I don't think there is any difference between a kit lens and another lens
Its just that they put it in a box with a camera
in this case yes but usually kit lens is of inferior quality (cheap) than pretty much anything else
It isn't really a kit lens for $1000 :p
It is referred to as a kit lens because it is bundled in kits with Z6 and Z7 cameras
