This new Hellripper album is an absolute beast. Tons of old school black metal and thrash metal influences and it’s my current favorite album of 2023.
James is seriously one of my idols, and a huge inspiration for how he can create such incredible music all by himself. This album is phenominal

Never heard of Hellripper before, but after hearing so many folks in my circles hyping this album out and you also mentioning it in community post, I decided to give it a shot and damn, Hellripper hella ripps! It isn't the most unique record out there, just very well executed blackened thrash just...again, it's executed SO WELL I love it! If their previous 2 records also worth checking out- tell me, I'll peep them.
This here is the cream of the crop, BUT everything else Hellripper has done is still solid and worth checking out.

AOTY, James is such a talented individual. the big 4 should take notice on how its suppose to be done.
I'm honestly not getting the hype behind this album. I kind of was expecting it to hit me harder than it did, but by the end I was left feeling that it was just ok. It gave me the same vibe that I get whenever I'm in a lecture hall learning about an interesting subject, but it's presented by someone who has the personality of an end piece of bread. I can't say that it was bad, because it's not. I just wanted more than what it gave.

This one was a pleasant surprise. One of my favorites so far this year and a big step up from his previous work which I already enjoyed.
Came to discover Hellripper from Bryce and his awesome interviews with James. I’ve always Really enjoyed Hellripper, but James Mcbain REALLY outdid himself on here.
It definitely has this awesome fusion of Peace Sells era Megadeth and Kill Em All/ Ride the Lightning era Metallica if done by Venom, Early Skeletonwitch, Toxic Holocaust and Midnight. Yeah fuck it, 4.5/5.
The Skeletonwitch vibes are very strong on this for sure, I'm picking up a whiff of Slaegt too.

My album of the year, I doubt it'll be topped. The Affair of the Poisons was my AOTY in 2020 and is comfortably in my top 30 albums of all time, I think Warlocks is a better album by every measure...
Agreed, this album is nonstop fun front to back. Leaning more towards a 4/5 currently, but that might change in the future.
I feel like this album is to this year what Cancer Bats was to last year. A pick me up I’ll probably constantly revisit.

This album is full of passion and effort and RIFFS with a production that fits so perfectly and feels so organic without feeling cheap. And vocally you can really feel like he gave that same effort and this album captures some of his best performances. This is not a unique style but I think he does it better than anyone, surpassing his own influences and mixing in the right elements of thrash, black, speed and classic metal Into a tasty product. Serious performances that are never not FUN and this album also shows growth as a songwriter that only makes me more excited for the next album
The styles of music that Hellripper utilizes on this album typically aren't my thing, but MAN this album is so much fun :D Great riffs, interesting songwriting and song structures, and tight production and performances.
This band is like if Slayer, Running Wild and Grand Belials Key wrote an album as a group project.

Yeah, I completely agree. The riffs are fantastic and this album has no duds. The only thing more surprising is Exhibition also put out a Crossover Thrash record this week that I loved just as much. This week is OP.

Decibel Magazine keeps a list of upcoming new releases on their website that they update regularly. Following lots of record labels on social media helps too, great way to stay in the know about TONS of bands and albums on the way.
It also helps that PR companies and labels just send me stuff lmao, its great.

I dropped off of Hellripper after Coagulating Darkness and especially after the 2020 album because I thought he was getting boring and predictable... so when I heard that James was switching things up for this new one, I was like, "Yes! FINALLY!" Heard it once yesterday and it ABSOLUTELY won't be the last time.🤘
I... think I have? The name sounds familiar. I shall check them out again to be safe. Either I discover a new band or get reacquainted with one, win/win.
