No regrets. It burbles more especially when cold. Pulling out of my work parking lot at the end of day some co-workers turn and look when I'm leaving but it's not bad. Do it!
I'd guess most shops wouldn't know what a one ball mod is. You'd have to ask them to remove one of the mufflers. This requires them to provide a small piece of pipe (90 degree). The first gen Cooper S had two mufflers and as far as I know are the only minis that can do this.
The stock exhaust on these cars have two "mufflers" and all of the exhaust gases go through both mufflers. This mod simply removes the first muffler (passenger side muffler). Since all gases went through the remaining muffler before the mod, there is no additional constriction/conflict. If anything, it is a freer flowing design since it only passes through one muffler now.
Your right I didn't notice the first time I watched the video. I thought I'd seen 1 inlet 2 outlets on passenger's side canister. I over looked it, I definably will give it a try. Is it any louder with only 1 muffler?
Seems like the previous owner of my Mini did the same thing, but he made the piping himself. Mine is crazy loud. Cold start has like a muscle car burble and nowhere on the rev range is it quiet in any means. I think he removed more than just the right muffler.^^
They only used a 90 degree bend pipe that was the same size diameter as the exhaust piping. You can see it in the video. If you do it yourself, be careful where you cut so the pipes line up!
I'm not after a louder mini, its my wife's after all...But i'm looking for a new exhaust because one of the back boxes has rusted through....this might save me a fortune! thanks for the video! Any ideas where i can get the replacement pipe in the uk?
Majic1kid- we don't have smog tests in NY, but I don't see why it wouldn't pass. It's only taking off one of the mufflers which only suppresses sound. The catalytic converter remains untouched.
Just a question what canister did you use the drive side? wouldn't be a conflict with the airflow considering it's not meant to handle all of it? Just a thought It looks nice though
Minicooper24- I'm not sure why you think this mod adds back pressure. It's obviously not as free flowing as a well tuned after market full exhaust, but by removing a restriction like an entire muffler wouldn't create back pressure; it would only reduce it. It's cheap, adds nice noise, removes about 30 pounds and free up a bit of flow. BTW- I'm a gear head and love my mini!
Rudy- better flowing exhausts will add a small amount of power. This modification will add a couple horsepower but nothing really substantial. Still worth it IMO.
It's a little louder, but not by much. It now has a slightly deeper tone and pops and burbles quite a bit more on off throttle. tKBurek- You like my 15 inch steelies, eh? :-) They are my winter wheels and tires. I rode them all winter and it only snowed a couple times. I have my 17" rims back on and it's nice to have some grip again!
this is the mod you do to really tell the world i park my car outside my doublewide while im high on oxy
eye protection?? just me?
Great sound!!!
Sounds great

Brenticoop, I just stop by a muffler shop and the guy told me $75 to get it done so Monday I'm heading to it. Thanks for all the info

Love this mod, this is what the r53's should of sounded stock. Im gonna miss it tho, just ordered alta's sport exhaust.
Thanks Enrico!
sweet vid btw

I don't remember the exact price, but it was less than $100. Glad you liked it!

I had mine done a month ago. Sounds great, loses 20+ pounds.
what size pipe is the elbow you buy? im gonna do this this weekend so I want to go buy the pipe today
Need this done, what size is the pipe that they used for welding the gap? Thanks
Miggynuez- I still have it and I'm very happy with it. Sound at idle is fine... Not loud or boomy but a little deeper. Do it!

nice collaboration, what camera you use?

It looks nice though
What pipe did you fit? 2.25'' on both sides?
Planning on doing this myself since the resonator have a hole in it.. Do you use any special tubes, or does any work as long as it fits?
hey man. I'm looking at having this done to my r53. is there any rasp in the exhaust after the mod was finished?
Hind135- it's a canon had g10. I just got the camera when I had the work done. I shot this to get familiar with the camera.
Any HP gain from this mod?
is there any drone?
Cant decide whether to have this done. Has anyone had any trouble from this mod? Any regrets at all? Would really appreciate any feedback!
1Lester779- Glad I could help. For $75 you can't go wrong!
So you've had this mod now for awhile. Do you regret it at all? Ever wish you had both resonators back?
if i can ask, around what did you pay for this?
Any ideas on what the extra space could be used for? I don't think it's large enough for a donut/spare, though that would be ideal.
+Epo There's not much room, but you might be able to put the battery there, if getting it a few inches lower is important.
+kimisdaman that's what that box thing is, that's where the battery sits
the stock exhaust tips on the r53 are so anemic..
The story behind the r53 exhaust tips is pretty funny: www.motoringfile.com/2004/03/16/the_true_story_behind_the_minis_exhaust_tip/

it certainly makes an r53 sound like fuckin garbage
Bret con una consulta mas que es la IMO.
Any drone after doing this?
+e60 Source yes
No rasp but the tone is deeper and the burble when you abruptly let off the gas is much more pronounced. Get it done!
Esto de quitar una bola de la mas potencia al motor?
Rudy- better flowing exhausts will add a small amount of power. This modification will add a couple horsepower but nothing really substantial. Still worth it IMO.
lol it burbles a lot! is your mini stock?
It had a reduced supercharger pulley, air intake, and upgraded sway bars and tires. Unfortunately I no longer have it. It was fun!
it's not a second muffler, that's the resonator and all cars these days have those and can be removed :>
is this an auto or manual ?
Manual!
These guys don’t want to keep their eyes..
Better before
Real friends do not let you one-ball your R53, real friends will tell you instead to get a JCW or a Dinan catback over an one-ball.

lol no gloves or eye protection.
stock sounds better :,(
a mini on steelies..... shame on the owner. thats just wrong.
Probably winter rims :/
+TheFassold Bit slow? Notice the snow tires?
Winter wheels? Shame on an owner who uses his nice wheels in winter, ruining them. You can obviously tell from the winter tires
Scott Brixey i park my mini for crap winter weather and drive my rover 4x4.
+TheFassold and people that don't do that use winter tires and wheels.
Had to watch the video in mute mode... music sucks..!!!
get shot of that dumb music well not music just some guy learning drums in the background.
😆 Hey Billy! Opinions are like a**holes; we all have them I don't want to hear yours.
