- Producing huge blooms sometimes 5 inches across, I like Princess Alexandra of Kent so much I have it as a full standard and as a bush, part of David Austin’s best for fragrance and best for Heath range it’s a really good allrounder, if the weather holds out rain is not this roses friend, so if wind or rain is due when it’s in bloom my advise is to pick them and bring the blooms into the house or you may just loose more than the odd flower
OMG! My heart just skipped a beat! 💓 I adore deep pink roses. Such a magnificently gorgeous rose!
Stunning 🍃🌹🍃
Beautiful!
Amazing and informative review. Learned so much about this rose.
Thank you for the great description. I really appreciate the feedback from someone who is actually growing it in their garden.
It’s honestly my pleasure to share my passion for these roses with all of you there is another 30 reviews from me coming this June so do subscribe and look out for the new videos
@@the_gardenerben I'm subscribed and while patiently waiting I'm watching your previous videos.
I'm building a memorial section in my garden with beautiful stone angel statues. Think this would compliment my vision beautifully as a background climbing up a trellis with one either side. It's a beauty.
This is a fabulous rose, but he’s not a climber. This is a fairly large shrub a climbing rose, which would give you a similar look would either be James Galway or Gertrude Jekyll
Thanks so much, Ben. I'm going to order one. Happy Gardening 2023!
Happy to help
Such a gorgeous rose‼️‼️I really love it’s beautiful color & large full shaped flower with its lovely green foliage ‼️Thanks for another wonderful review‼️🥰❤️ Debbie ~ Texas 🇺🇸
Thank you Ben! Because of your review I went and bought one PAOK, absolutely gorgeous, it smells divine and it is even more beautiful than I expect it to be! Keep up the good work.thanks
I’m pleased for you x
Lovely review. Just bought two for my garden here in Texas. I’m so excited.
Lovely 💚
It’s beautiful 😍. I planted her about three weeks ago from a bare root. She’s starting to get little nubs coming out. I planted her in a pot. I’m so excited can’t wait for her to get more growth and start blooming. Thank you for sharing yours. The blooms are so huge. WOW 😮. Blessings to you 🙏🏾
They really are however please be patient with her if you have gone back through my media and watched my videos on how to plant bare root roses and the process they go through to get to you she has a lot to recover from before she reaches full strength it may take several years for her to produce full sized blooms to give her some time
Hi Ben! I love all your videos especially the rose reviews! Please could you do a video of best standard roses! Thank you!💐
Good morning of course I’ll add it to the list for June
@@the_gardenerben Thank you Ben!!!🥀
So glad I watched this again! Just received her, potted (2 quart) directly from DA - and the card that comes attached to all of their roses says that her size is just 2&1/2 X 3&1/2 (high). SO…i was going to put her in a pot - which would be my very first experience with a rose in a pot. But it sounds as though she gets much bigger than that. Hmmm….
In my experience yes it is much larger
how does this one compare with Young Lycidas for growing in a pot? I am new to rose planting - I have just bought Gertrude Jekyll, Gabriel Oak and Lady of Shallot - I like bright colours and strong fragrances. Which other one would be good? I already have a deep maroon one (old fragrance, unknown name with a strong old rose fragrance) and a yellow one (also unknown name) in the garden. No more space as the garden is small. Thanks
Thank goodness you mentioned how the 1st flower can look weird. I planted this rose one month ago at my dad's house and my sister just shared a pic of its flower. The flower didn't look so pretty. I hope future blooms will impress me.
Did it look very different?
@@the_gardenerben Thank you for asking. No. The color and stem seem alright. It's just the inner petals are tight together and the outer petals are spread out and overextends. asically, the overall shape is not attractive. I see in your video that the petals do overextend vs a cupped rose. Well, this was one photo at a particular time and maybe I have to see it in person and hope it looks better.
🖐👏👏👏👍👍👍🌹🌹🌹💖💖💖
Love this rose just abit worried as it is quite Large mine is in a pot as DA state it is ideal for a pot
It’s not one i would recommend for a pot it’s simply to large in my opinion 💚
Hi Ben,
I love to see your rose reviews this Princess Alexandra of Kent looks beautiful.Ive just ordered a Young Lycidas from David Austin , do you have any comments about that rose should you be familiar with it ? It’s not available at the moment so I’m waiting for it to arrive. Thanks so much
Hi and thank you for your comment yes the Princess Alexandra of Kent is a beautiful Rose and makes it into several of my best of collections including a Best for cutting and bring into the house for a vase I do have YL I’ve had it for around 15 months it was up for full personal review this June but unfortunately over the winter are rats decided to build a nest underneath of it and all that killed it it is still just about life but clinging to existence I’m afraid
Great review. You help me make my decision for purchase. I would like to plant in a container pictured on the website. How do I get that compact round full shape?
You mean on the david austin website?
@@the_gardenerben Yes Sir.. They have one in a container that’s full and round . How do I achieve that look?
Da will usually plant 3 bushes per pot to get that look
@@the_gardenerben I thought so, I ordered 2. I’ll just prune you keep it short and compact I guess. Thanks for this video!
I have a space that is 3 feet wide and 10 feet long and was considering using PAOK as a hedge of 5 in this spot. My only concern it isn’t as deeply cupped as I like once it’s fully opened. Is there anything else you’d suggest instead for a more cupped rose or should I just go for PAOK?
Olivia Rose Austin makes a very nice informal hedge and is deeply cupped that might be a better alternative. It’s much more free flowering as well.
Hi Ben, enjoying the live visit around your wonderful garden today 28/5/23. Please could you help with a problem I have with this rose, Princess Alexander of Kent. It has dropped all of it's leaves and looks quite unhealthy. It is in it's second year, in a bed with other roses. Thanks. Brigitte
Where are you ?
@@the_gardenerben Near Reading, Berks.
I have to admit that I have planted all my roses a bit close, I wanted it to look like your garden!
Hi Ben 😊 👋!! Between Gertrude Jeckyl and PAOK which one and why??? As always thanks a million !!!!!
They are quite different, but paok flowers for a much longer period
How is the desise resistance of Princess Alexandra of Kent?
It’s good
Where can I buy ?
Your local plant centre or from the david Austin website
its still beautiful but I am a little disappointed it's not exactly as the David Austin website pictured. Theyre much more Pastel and uniformly colored but still pretty.
I’m sorry that you are disappointed. This is one of the reasons I started my personal rose reviews unfiltered, unedited and unchanged showing you the bloom in its natural state. There is obviously some variation depending on the temperatures and time of season they picked
