I have a question about that type of gauge I’m redoing a 1959 Willy’s pickup and the temp gauge is not registering correctly I bought a new temp gauge now my question is this does the fuel gauge post that has the jumper strap on it have 12 volt power? Or 5volt power? Like the old one? Second question does the temp gauge have too be grounded in the cluster or does it just get it’s ground from the sending unit thanks for your input on this
Not exactly sure on the 59' dont think I've done one of them but this one is 12v power and the ground goes through the fuel sending unit on the tank. If your gauge isn't reading right then you most likely have the different resistances on the sending unit and the gauge. They have to match or you get one of those situations where full is showing as half on the gauge etc..
Pretty sure it was either RockAuto or maybe even Amazon. They're quite common to tell the truth, hard part is finding one in stock and not 6 weeks to ship...thanks Covid.
Sounds like thats the issue, those gauges are usually the problem. Before ripping apart the gauge check the ground wire at the fuel tank sending unit, those tend to rust or flat out break just because of where they are located.
Yea didnt feel like it would at first but a wiggle here and there and it cleared enough to make it an easy job. Way more comfortable than laying on the floor and reaching up which is also doable but...ya know ;)
ABSOLUTELY love your videos sir! Just picked up a 84 cj7 and it needs ALOT of love. Your videos have definitely come in handy.
I like your videos. I been wanting to build me a Cj 7, hood to see more Jeep videos,

did you have your key on for the guage to work?
Yes the key was on, was just easier camera wise to have the key on while plugging the wires in.
What gauge was this that you used? Omix?
Yes, if memory serves I just got it off Amazon, was fastest delivery I could find.
Where did you get the replacement switch

My gas gauge works but temp gauge recently died, not getting 5v off the jumper from the fuel gauge, think I should replace that one?

Haha sorry read that wrong, need coffee. temp gauge gotcha ;)
Will do, thanks
Thanks for sharing, I have to swap mine out, it hasn’t worked in years,
Glad to help!
So you were able to remove middle and right had screws in dash and pull it out enough to get to speedometer cluster without removing steering column
