    That was super helpful. Great way to test it before dropping the tank. My float gets hung up on the sending unit at install causing it not to work... So obnoxious

    Hey man! I’d love to see more technical stuff like this. I just started restoring a 77 CJ7. It’s a whole new world to me so this kind of stuff is gold. Awesome video! Just subbed

      Awesome! Thanks for the sub and suggestion. My CJ aka perpetual project will always provide opportunities for videos. lol. Good luck with your project! Keep me posted on the progress. It is always cool to see what others doing.

      @@41GarageandGrill Thanks, will do! I’ve done the whole engine and transmission and electrical. All I have left is paint/body/suspension. I’ve got a little bit of timing and oil/ps leaks to fix with the engine but other than that, it’s almost road worthy.

    That was a good video! I have the same issue with my CJ and plan to fix it.
    Love the comment about telling the grand kids I fixed and have a working CJ gas gauge! Legacy work! Lol! 😂

      Good luck getting yours fixed. Keep me posted how it goes. And yes future generations will celebrate the day a gas gauge started working on a CJ. :-)

    Great video, I cheated and bought the SpeedHut CJ Gauge. I was tired of running out of gas!

      Thanks! You have a great setup. Running out of gas is no fun it has happened to me a couple of times too. I think to myself I thought I had more than that. lol

    Gas Gauge on my ‘75 CJ-5 works fine but the one on my ‘77 CJ-7’s Speedo Unit isn’t working.

      That's a bummer. Hopefully this video will help you find the problem. Most times it is as simple as a ground

    Strange,.......after installing new sending unit your meter read 75 ohms or empty tank, then you turned the key and the gauge started to read half etc.......did you put gas in it?

    • @41GarageandGrill
      @41GarageandGrill  Před rokem

      It has been a while since doing this but I think you are correct. I installed everything and tested it before adding gas into the tank. Thanks for catching that

    When you ground the sending unit, where does it go to, frame or body? And what type of grounding screw?

  • @joegomez478
    @joegomez478 Před 3 lety +2

    What do you think is wrong when the key is on and the fuel gauge goes to empty same thing maybe ( sending unit) ?....85 cj7

    • @41GarageandGrill
      @41GarageandGrill  Před 3 lety

      It should start at empty before you even turn the key on. It sounds like you are saying it is at some level and when you turn the key on it moves to empty. I have not heard of that but I would check the pink wire see what reading you get on the ohm meter

    My gas gauge shows half a tank when it’s actually empty. What causes that?

    • @41GarageandGrill
      @41GarageandGrill  Před 6 měsíci

      Most likely need to adjust the float. If you know approximately how much gas is in the tank you can take a ohm reading and that should tell you if it is the float or the gauge

  • @slowcountryboy476
    @slowcountryboy476 Před rokem +1

    How do you know it pinches??

    • @41GarageandGrill
      @41GarageandGrill  Před rokem

      Once the tank is mounted the wires should still move freely. You can sort of see up there to look for anything pinched but also you should be able to tell by the wire movement. Let me know if that is what you are asking about and if it helps.

    • @41GarageandGrill
      @41GarageandGrill  Před 2 lety

      Not sure I completely understand what is happening with yours but it is all in the wiring so hopefully you can get it fixed.

    • @41GarageandGrill
      @41GarageandGrill  Před rokem

      Most likely the arm on the sending unit. Did you check the ohm reading? That would help locate the issue

    • @markfeuerherdt2338
      @markfeuerherdt2338 Před rokem +1

      How do you check that the arm is working correctly?

    • @41GarageandGrill
      @41GarageandGrill  Před rokem

      @@markfeuerherdt2338 If you hook ohm meter up and get the correct reading while moving the arm. Let me know if that answers your question
