The real Taylor Swift speed-writing accomplishment is Love Story which was written in 20 minutes by herself at like age 17. Another super simple song but it works.

"Crazy Little Thing Called Love" by Queen was written in about 10 minutes by Freddie Mercury while taking a bath (confirmed by drummer Roger Taylor and roadie Peter Hince, who was with him in the hotel). Freddie then told them they had to go straight into the studio and they recorded the song (minus Brian's guitar solo) within the next few hours

Fun fact: Taylor's We are never ever getting back together came from a record where she had the longest time to make a song. Her fan favourite and Taylor's most acclaimed song "All To Well" was her longest one. It took 11 months for Taylor to finish the song.

If I remember the story right, the 10 minute version came together almost immediately, but it had to be reworked for being so damn long.
@@mariokarter13 The original recording was 24 minutes long and it was basically her rambling with a guitar. She had to rework it into a coherent song which was 10 minutes, and then cut it again to 5 minutes because 10 was considered too long.

Not only was My Sharona written in 15 minutes, the lead singer wrote it to steal the girlfriend of a fan. Her name was Sharona. The singer won her heart with a #1 song. In fact the real Sharona's pic was used on the cover of the single.

I thought that the story behind Sweet Child O Mine was that Slash used the iconic guitar sound to warm up every single time he was going to start playing. And that Axl had written a poem to his then girlfriend and just used the poem as the lyrics, and then Slash just added the solo. And voila! They had their single.
You gotta do a reverse of this video with songs that took ages to write or maybe compare them wether it makes a difference in quality
not that suprising that many 80s band have written songs in around 30 min. considering they were all prolly coked out of their mind. so their 30 min prolly felt like a multiple hours

They also have an unreleased song you can find on CZcams called "First Time" that samples "Today" by Smashing Pumpkins. It sent me through a loop when I first heard it

The story I read and heard about Lorde, Royals. Is that they finished all the work on their other songs and such and had about 30 minutes studio time left. The producer made a beat and the song was written and basically recorded from there.

Sometimes I sit and wonder how a Joel song comes to be. So much talent and always so true to himself, always telling a story and it's thought out in every note. I love it. Can't wait for more songs in the future!

Gotta say I'm glad that Jani Lane (RIP) later said that he was just in a bad place mentally the day he shot that interview. It still was not his favorite song by far -- I'm pretty sure his favorite was 'Uncle Tom's Cabin', considering the name of the album before 'Cherry Pie' was written -- but lo and behold, he was still closing sets with 'Cherry Pie' almost literally until the day he died, so he'd at least made peace with it somewhat. (Also seriously... I am CONVINCED the Beastie Boys were the type of guys pretending to not give a 'frick' but gave many 'fricks'.)

I guess it was probably more like 10-20 minutes and not 5-10... but I totally believe it was done quick.

Some of these I really believe were written that quickly because some songs are hits based on a catchy riff and a fun, easy, repetitive chorus. Others are just BS stories.
The lyrics to Need You Tonight by Inxs were written in around 10 minutes by Michael Hutchence according to Andrew Farris.
I can believe that Fight for Your Right was written in very little time. It's a not a complex song and it's entirely tongue-in-cheek.

I've got an oldie but a goodie that was improvised on stage during a performance by the 70s Canadian band, The Guess Who - "American Woman". It would have been lost except that someone at the concert was bootlegging with a tape recorder. So the band asked for the tape, they fine tuned it and released an awesome single that some Americans were kind of insulted about.
Whenever I think of writing a song, or before, I started putting together that “oh, there’s more to it than that“ I always thought that when someone referred to songwriting, they were talking about the lyrics, and I can believe some of these songs lyrics were written in a short amount of time, like you said…. I mean, if you’ve got someone with a really good ear and talent for writing music like sheet music, I could see it too but yeah-sweet child of mine probably has a really complicated composition. Maybe I don’t know I’m not that good at music notation, but those lyrics are so simple- same with Beyoncés should’ve put a ring on it

6:55 I will say though the record label was correct, if people think Warrant then 99.999% of them think "Cherry Pie" it sold.
Of course, he can hate it, he can hate what it meant for the rest of his work, that he doesn't think it was creative or meant anything etc. But he's living comfortably because of that decision by a record producer.

I really recommend you to listen to the amazing british pop, pop-rock band The Vamps and maybe react to them in some way like listening to their 5th album and the newest "Cherry Blossom" and giving your opinion. And as I also said before their most popular songs that literally everyone knows is "Somebody To You" and "All Night" but they have so many more great songs that I also prefer to the most popular.
