Ed is way more comfortable on stage in the new performance then in the old one. You can tell young Ed was very nervous.
*Exactly what I was thinking!*
Yeah he's trying different styles too🙂🙂
It is sad to see some of the older singers falling out. They are talented but you can tell the instruments (voice) are wearing out. But some sound really great in terms of tone.
I cannot imagine having to watch some of my favorite singers going down that hill as the years go by, it's going to suck for real
Totally agree, so sad to see singers who shaped generations fall out with age.
@@kkclips56 It's very sad, but normal. Celine Dion is kind of the exception, but she's a force of nature to begin with - she's unreal. Patti LaBelle was able to sing very well until a couple of years ago, not as strong as in her prime, but still very good.
How fast und how much singers loose their vocal abilities is also very strongly related to how much they look after their voice. Celine treats her voice like royalty and does everything she can to maintain it + she has outstanding technique.
Freddie Mercury fried his voice with bad habits, bad technique and overuse. He still sounded great in all stages of his career, because he was Freddie f*ing Mercury, but you can actually follow the development of his voice through the decades very well starting off light and high in the 70s, followed by a deeper and heavier phase in the 80s to when he had AIDS and finally rested his voice + some techniques Monserrat Caballé taught him which resulted in some of his best vocals on the Innuendo Album in the 90s. He regained some lightness he once had, but lost strenght and depth.
Taking care of your instrument does a whole lot, but can't stop the aging process.
Christina is actually in her second vocal prime. Yes, sometimes she sounds tired like in this particular performance. But she is in much better shape than 10 years ago and her tone is richer than ever. She has delivered a lot of great vocals in recent years.
I guess they just dont like her growling so much
Yeah, she's so much better now. She's probably sick of that shitty old song lol.
@@fil0sofia Honestly she was just off that entire show. She also sang fighter and beautiful and it wasn’t the best. There were some great moment but overall one of her weakest performances from the past decade. So obviously based only on that one performance anyone would think she declined.
what i was gonna say
She shows off more than she has ever had to do before, it's not impressive
Bon Jovi has not sang the high note of living on a prayer in decades he always does the : "letting others sing it". He apparently cannot do it anymore
Tbf not that bad does sound pretty good when the crowd sing it
He's quite old. His voice isn't the same
That checks out for a lot of those 80s power ballad kinda singers tbh. Like given how crazy some of those high notes were it's no wonder his voice is shot to hell.
@@lenu.cornei yes ... that's natural
@@Jopeymessmusic It's not so much that his voice is shot as it is that singers lose range as they age and can't hit high notes they could at a younger age. And you're right, it's really common with that style of music.
I think the era in which the songs came out also influence the performance. When Genie in a bottle came out, that airy, head voice, breathy sound was very popular. Now she can play around with tone and range and show of her vocals.
Joel aggressively pressing the buzzer has to be made into a meme😤
Join the subreddit lol it became a meme the day of the stream xD
The thing about Livin' on a prayer is that 30 years have passed, and Bon Jovi's songs aren't easy on vocal cords. So he was apt to not be "good" after so many years.
For Toto, FORTY years pretty much. I mean, let’s hear anyone that much later. Not fair to compare with ones 6-10 years after…
@@LorieLee7 Exactly. It's amazing they can still sing at all.
He wasn't in the clip, but Sting still sounds great, I've recently seen him live and boy he's still got it even 40 years later!
Some artists voices get richer as they get older, like wine.
Christina gained back her entire range(minus belting range). Improved her vibrato, her lows became much richer, and got her agility back. The only thing she’s not better at is belting and I’m honestly tired of people acting like belting is the definitive factor of how great a singer is. She can do dynamics, has the best falsetto in the industry and delivered some of her best vocals ever during the Liberation tour in 2018/2019. She’s gotten so much better but people don’t see that because they think you have to be able to belt high to be good.
@MrBeest is ruining the planet[recent vid explains] This might be the worst comment ever
Because she's always trying to distract people by showing off notes that don't need to be shown off. Just sing and stop trying to do fancy stuff
Women’s vocal tone becomes lower and deeper after having children which may explain Xtina’s 2019 performance. Same thing happened to Madonna after the birth of her daughter.
@@loraloo189also in live performances performers pitch it down if they’re doing a bunch of performances (which is more than likely).
@@x_ray5531 Das a bot. Report and move on.
Adele's voice aged like a fine wine fr. It has got a husky texture to it and now she's way more confident with it. The agility in the upper belts improved as well
She is just around 30🙄🙄 what aging??
@@fatemejahangiri2681 well, it's been 4-5 years since her last and latest music releases, ofc she ages, everybody does
@@fatemejahangiri2681 and your point is..?
joel being really energetic for almost 12 min lol
He's been pretty silly/hyper in these streams lately and I am LIVING for it lol
@@princessleah_92 i missed some streams
That clip of Xtina is like 4 years old. They should have used her singing in the billboard music awards earlier this year.
This is very sad, I don't know, it doesn't seem quite right to me to judge so harshly the quality of a singer's voice when he is already old. OBVIOUSLY they will not have the same performance like come on they are OLD. It's normal they don't sound like they did 30 years ago...
It was pretty ageist and disrespectful 😒
Yea these boys are kinda childish..posting videos judging on singers.. and they call this making music contents ?
@@kennniiikc3162 while I don't feel any ill towards them, I do agree that there have been a couple of times when I've seen this channel make a booboo, and the continuous ignorance is annoying. I find these videos to only spread negativity and for that I don't watch them often. Sometimes, they're being nice and respectful, but other times they're careless and you don't see them aknowledge that.
The one time I came close to unsubscribing is when Joel posted a video comparing singer's career evolution and the thumbnail was a picture of Louis Tomlinson with the title "bad" or something like that, and next to him was Harry Styles with the title "good".
I know this may seem like a little thing, especially since it was clickbait and in the video Joel praised Louis, but as this (putting Louis and Harry against each other) has been going for years, it angered the fans. Louis has always been dealing with hate and comparison to the point where he saw himself as not needed in the band. He's always had troubles with his label not promoting him enough, and for that he's not as commercially successful as Harry. However, he's doing more than amazing in his own right. Last year, he set a world record for the biggest live stream concert (or something like that, can't remember exactly), and much more. As his fan, it's frustrating to see people ignore that and say he's "bad" because he's not as mainstream as Harry became. Especially since neither of the boys would like people to compare them.
The problem is, the outrage was so big that Joel even posted a comment saying he had nothing to do with the thumbnail (an editor made it I guess), but did not change it and the thumbnail is still the same. Yet he changes thumbnails when he likes. But when people actually call him out, he washes his hands of the problem, blames someone else and leaves it at that, disrespectful thumbnail be damned. I mean, it's your channel, it's your responsibility to overview everything that is going to be uploaded.
Sorry for such a big rant, what I meant to say is that this is not the first time Joel has been disrespectful with no regards to the fact that he's judging real human beings.
Aguilera has always needed a little technical help.
Bon Jovi is still amazing, if not as a singer, as a human. He has been married to the same woman for 30+ years, he owns a restaurant that helps feed the poor (it's pay what you can), he's not into drugs or alcohol, he's never had a scandal, he's just been a really good person. So what if his voice hasn't aged well, he's still a rockstar in my book.
Seems like a good human, which is pretty rare nowadays
Also he is old. There is a difference between comparing a person in her 20's and the same person in their 30's, and Bon Jovi in his 30's and then he in his 70's. Of course it got worse, he is human
9:55 the best impression from Joel so far. That sounded wonderful!
Even better at 10:17
@@DFWsCars 😂
Bobby Kimball suffers from dementia and developed hearing loss over the years, this (2019) was one of his last performances.
I think making fun of him in this stage is not really fair.
Yes they talked about this in the stream but the editor cut it out for the video I guess
Who thought it would be a good idea to give Joel that button😂? Great and crazy video btw!
Ed Sheeran was always amazing, and he has only grown as a singer and storyteller.
@mrbeestisruiningtheplanetr cool but to the guy behind this bot: learn how to spell twat
Agreed
No he was not
He admitted that he never had talent for singing, he learned how to sing more than he could rely on talent like most singers (bc practise makes everything better)
@@filipmarinkovic6281 yes he did i saw a video where he showed a clip of him singing and he honestly sounded like a dying cow 🤣 but now he is very good
@MrBeest is ruining the planet[recent vid explains] what😅💀
Even the worst “PITCHEST” clips are still way better than anything I could ever do
Do you even try to learn singing?
The opposite of evolution isn't downfall. Evolution does not mean to improve, it just means to change. So you're simply looking at singers' vocal evolution, no matter if they've improved or not.
I think Ariana Grande and Ed Sheeran definitely have grown as artists and singers
ariana's positions live performance of my hair was amazing
100%
@@lavierretraineralex5548 omg that was phenomenal.
You should of seen the Bongo Guy at Paul Simon's show at central park in 1991, he was amazing
Bon Jovi really hit hard😢
I actually really liked that arrangement of Livin on a prayer. Like, sure, Jon Bon Jovi doesn't have the same vocal range that he did 30 years ago, but at least they can do the song in a way that makes it sound really good.
Miley. Gets better every single year. Damn. This rock type era helps her. She will become a legend. She should be in this. I would hear Chrissy from Against the Current here too. She has now about 15 years of career. From a teenager to 30 years. From CZcams to global tours. Deserved.
Miley Cyrus is just awful, period
@@usaskjock yeah, she dares to sing without autotune on concert. Check her last tour in south-America this year. The thing is, she just not a mainstream puppet like Taylor Swift. She was for a while. She ended, now she does what she wants for her own music enjoyment. And at this point even the rock fans started to respect her. This is how singers became legendary. One thing is when someone like Harry Styles slay the Spotify for a season or two in pop. But he is annoying for a lot and others just don’t know him. Depends on age. Miley already started to show up on the horizon of older people too and other genre fans. She will be remembered. She is the type who can sit down on a stage and the crowd will sing for her anyway. And I don’t particularly like her. I usually listen yt versions. My Spotify list first became Kurt Hugo Schneider, second is Madilyn Bailey… so no. I’m not a Miley fan.
@@nazimelmardi Taylor Swift is definally not a good example of a mainstream puppet maybe Ava max
@@VaaleBeetancurG she feels like now (the last years) that she has a team to listen all the songs that are running high and not just on music but on lyrics and then they analyze them and they like a computer AI create the perfect mainstream songs. Also her behavior was better at the very beginning. Her “celebrity courtship” thing with all the models are not so cool message to her followers. She was a better role model on every level before. And no, it’s not typical. If we refer back to Miley she learns and she focuses on good causes all her power. Taylor focuses on money and it’s representation. ->
@@nazimelmardiTaylor literally released two albums in 2020 without telling her label until the release day, that is not ”being under a label that decides what you release”. Taylor is one of the few artist that has a lot more control over what she releases. Two indie albums at that something that usually doesn’t sell as much
Loving the videos lately. Yall are getting into a good stride again
The Joey "How you doin'?" Slipped in definitely an evolution in the video.
Interesting video, it’s cool to see how some artists have incredible change in their vocals, whether it’s downfall or better.
I absolutely love to hear singers from the 80s or even 70s singing now.. The amount of effort they need to put into the singing is absolutely fantastic to watch 😂
Keep in mind that Christina's clips are more than 20 years apart and that song was written for her younger voice. She's so much more intense now.
Ohhhh Roomie wait til you’re 60 and your voice changes
I wonder how often vocalists write songs in a high register and then wonder, "Am I gonna be able to sing this thing in, say, forty year?"
Can you imagine singing the same freaking songs the same way for years?? The changes are a combo of artists getting comfortable (for the younger ones) and some of it has to be boredom and needing to mix it up to maintain sanity 🙃
My heart becomes a bongo guy when Joel sings)
To be fair to Bobby - he's 72 in this second clip, been battling drug addicition for like 20 years and also was diagnosed with dementia in late 2010s...
His downfall began around 2006, it is painfully seen on Live Album from 2007.
They talked about this is the stream, but I guess the editor didn't want to keep it in the video.
Another epic video, thanks guys 😁
Loved the bongo guy😂😂😂😂. This was so much fun, guys thank you so much for a wonderful video. Love you, Joel
Ed sheeran is the pro of having sped up live version though. He's very good at making the sing slightly different live too which is nice
Still have my fingers crossed for a song competition between the 3 boys of 'Christmas-i-est' songs to celebrate the holiday. But love every video on the roomie channel ❤️
The singers hitting a single note wrong: NOOOOOOO
me hitting only one note right: yessir!
Ah - the video where Joel just wants to press the button no matter what! 😂
Ed has worked so hard on his singing and music skills so good!!
Bongo guy looks like he’s playing the classic cartoon running noise!!! 😂🏃😂
I love your videos
Yeah I'm not really in shock that 30-40 year old singers have improved since they were 20, but that 60-70 years old have lost some vocal chord capabilities. I'm sure that bad technique can accelerate that process, but also aging makes you lose muscle cells, and vocal chords are muscles.
true. but not just aging and how well you've looked after your body. but any medical issues, hormonal changes (especially for women who've been pregnant). alot comes into play. it can be sad but it's also just how it goes.
I love the high energy in this video!!!
Love your videos
Love these vids
Joel repeatedly banging on that buzzer at the end is a mood! 😆
Angry swedish men are surprisingly entertaining
That last clip was 40 years later. I imagine many physical changes in 40 years played a part in the quality of the "new" version. Are there any singers who sound better after 40 years? Lets see a video of that!
You have to keep in mind, some of these downfalls are because they are getting older. They are still great singers.
Ed went from trying really hard to effortlessly good!
”I’m gonna sing into daddy’s microphone”
That sounded so wrong I-
I was falling asleep before watching this video, but then I absorbed some of Joel’s manic energy. Holy hell.
You guys are worth watching
Just followed your twitch there now ❤
Nice to see you again Joel🥰😁
I got the feeling that roomie was a little stoned , lol I enjoyed the video!
I feel like it is wrong to look at an evolution 40 years later, when the singer clearly can't have the same energy than before just by becoming older.
I didn't think any of them mentioned it, which I felt was needed to say because I think there is no person who can make his voice become better over 40 years when you were very good in the beginning.
Damn this is some TEA
I didnt know you still made videos dang I think last time I watched one of your vids was back in 2016
4:30, Apparently saying evolving backward is a Swedish thing. 😂😂😂
11:20 The bongo guy at the end got me 🤣🤣🤣🤣
When you guys mentioned the bongo guy, I was dying 😂😂😂😂
Fun fact: The bongo guy in the Bobby Kimball segment is one of Dschinghis Khan's members, Leslie Mandoki. And Dschinghis Khan is famous for the song most of us know, Moskau
My favorite thing is when Joel hears a song and gets the urge to sing it himself.
You did Ed’s eyes dirty in that photo🤣🤣
To be fair, expecting 60+ year old men to hit high notes like they are in their 20's again is highly unlikely bordering impossible.
Yeah it's fair enough for Sheeran or someone but the guy from Toto was over 70 years old, still being able to sing like you used to would be really rare.
I would love to see comparisons for people like Sinatra, McCartney, MJ, Elvis, even see if it’s noticable in Freddy Mercury… see performers who spent their life in the industry and compare age instead of whether they still “can show the same emotion from when it’s written”
If you do a part 2, I think we need James Hetfield included for a real evolution. Went from not wanting to sing, just screaming on KEA, to blowing out his voice through Justice and the Black album, to now one of the most recognizable voices in music
Love this
Adele ages like a fine wine
Totally agree she has unlocked more pitch and higher vocal ranges
true
It helps with her losing the weight as well, losing the fat pressing against her vocal cords
She’s still VERY young, of course she is still in her prime.
@@kat284 i don’t really follow more modern music and I’m not bashing it as old or young, but isn’t Adele closer to 40? Not that it isn’t “young” or “old” but def not “teen pop idol”
Roomie, you should've considered the clip of Adele from one night only where she sings someone like you and attempts the falsetto after 10 years. That's bloody amazing.
She crushed it!
Being this early is very rare for me
Love your videos
I watch your older videos from time to time
And there are many videos where you said
same thing that you are going to deep dive into BTS
Lyrics and albums
Please do that soon if possible 🥺
Thanks Joel, August and Johnas
11:36 Man looking like he's about to steal Christmas
The rock singers are not using techno and autotune , and they are way older along with far more difficult pieces... that's why they don't sound like they have improved with age
I feel like with singers that have been around for a really long time and we’re really huge hits a long time ago, at one point it’s more about the show than it is about their vocals and they’re just kind of screwing around more than they are giving a really nice performance technique wise. Like how good you sound doesn’t matter anymore you already have all the cash and you’re just touring around having fun I guess.
Your vocal chords got better :)
I did not realize you posted this an hour ago. Lol
This is my first video I agreed with ALL the opinions. Nice to see Joel so happy and frisky, give him the button ALL the time!
Zoned out Joel is my spirit animal 😂
I think if you wanna do this accurately you need to compare multiple performances not just one old and one new. Singers can have bad days too.
Edited to add- You also need to factor in changes in vocal ability due to aging.
Roomie's is baack🎉
How wonderfully aggressive this was 😂
i heard kimball back in 2005 live in Greece and he sounded just like the studio version..he was great...but it's been 40 years since the clip you showed so it's natural to be worse now due to aging..the same with john bon jovi and christina aguilera..
I think he was great, just singing the song differently
Ringo Starr from the Beatles still has an AMAZING voice, I went to one of his concerts
adele is so amazing
Nope
Joel was bouncing off the walls today. That was hilarious 💚
Isn't it "downfall" by default as the vocal cords shrink and stiffen, with age?
I've never been this early and I can't believe I'm commenting before even watching the video 😭
Got an idea, perhaps would be a fun video... What would nursary rhymes sound like in different music genres?
Am I a dumb dumb, has this been done before?
I feel like it’s hard to compare like 90s live videos to today’s. The camera and recording equipment alone make a huge difference. And don’t mics today have automatic pitch correction? What’s “live” today isn’t even really truly live.
Not all mics, only some.
When Joel have a mustache he seems so mature and the editing is not that crazy but now that he shave its like the old Joel is back with the crazy editing
Adele bores me to tears. There, I said it!
she's great,but i get bored too.
This was hilarious. You guys are immensely entertaining.
for me adele and ariana improved the most..adele just seems way more comfortable being on a stage and her technique is much better considering her surgeries too..
and ariana really reached a very high top in her career..she's way better as a vocalist, she started to write way more than before..now she's producing too..hands down to her, nothing to say
Once again, I feel like these are being unfair. Roomie and the gang are only focusing on the vocals. I mean, with Bon Jovi, there's a 30 years of difference between those clips. Of course he's gonna sound better when he's young and his body is at its prime. He also looks much more confident. As Roomie mentioned, he keeps holding on to the mic very stiffly in recent years, and I think it has something to do with him forcing himself. Much like when you're in pain, you tense up. I think he's pushing himself and has to grasp the mic to control himself a bit.
If Axl Rose isnt in this, i am pissed lol
Edit: he isn't. Now i am pissed
