Great how-to video!! Thank you! I was stuck until I found this clip. However, I did have one hiccup: I couldn't figure out how to save my save game data to my PS4 external drive. Not a problem though, I just used an LAN cable for that. And I purposely excluded trophy data, so hopefully I can re-earn those trophies when I replay the games ;)

Bit of a silly and late question, but the transferring saved games and data bit, if I have the original ps4 disc, do I have to transfer them, or can I just pop the disc in and go from there? I'm transferring games that I bought over the network, that's no issue, but it's being a bit of a pig and I don't know if it'll be worth the trouble right this moment.

I have both consoles connected to my router with cable. Is that effectively the saMe idea as connecting on PS4 to ps5 to transfer?

I’ve been stuck on the preparing to transfer for a really long time. Have both consoles connected to same wifi with an Ethernet between them
If that method doesn't work for you then I would try the one where you download the games from the store and the save data from the cloud. Hope this helps thanks for watching!

I have a save file for the PS4 Fallout 4 that's got 496hrs of progress... it doesn't seem to transfer over and I really don't want to start all that over.

Connect your PS5 With LAN cable in the same TV and your PS4 with Wi-Fi internet connection and you will see both Systems will running so fast 6 hrs only to transfer your games
Feel free to try the other methods I laid out in the video.

Any trick to the external ssd method? My ps5 is on the way, I have an external ssd and would like to be able to just plug it into the ps5 and be ready to play ps4 games directly off the ssd when the ps5 arrives. Possible?
Once you follow these steps then just plug in your external and you are good to go

I tried doing the external hard drive part with GTA 5. I moved my PS4 data to the external hard drive and put it in the ps5. Long story short, I lost the game save data. It didn’t come up on my ps5 but the trophy progress was there. I don’t know if I didn’t something wrong or what not, but I went back to the PS4 and now that saved data can’t be read.. I was a little frustrated with that. Even my Call of duty campaign. Nothing transferred over 😔
No worries you can always download a copy of your save data from the cloud under PS Plus. Hope this helps!

I transferred everything, but when I try to load the saved data in game (ff7 remake) it says “please make sure to first upload your data from upload save data in the PlayStation 4 version of the game.) what am I not doing? --Never mind I figured it out lol. Gotta go in the ps4 version and copy data from there

One question I have is if you transfer all your ps4 games saved data to ps5 and on ps5 you decide to delete some ps4 games, are you allowed to play that deleted ps4 game on ps5 again by redownloading it and picking up where you left off or does it destroy your progress?

How do I safely remove my external HD and make sure everything stays on there without any issues?
Whenever it's done you should be good to remove it. If anything does happen you can download your save files again from the cloud. Hope this helps!
I did this process without having to purchase a LAN Cable and only took about 5 mins for 6 games with data to transfer... unless you are VERY impatient just do what he says without the LAN.. ❤😮
Smaller games will work fine BUT CoD and Apex are big GB hogs ha ha ha... cable helps with those types of things.

Super thankful for how detailed this video was, I have one specific question: if you transfer over user data for apex legends and download the game afterward, do all your characters and skins transfer over as well? I’m asking because I’ve heard people have to start from scratch and I’d really prefer not to do that. So does this mean that if i completed a disc game 100% on my ps4 and then data transfer does that mean that it will still be 100% complete on the ps5 and same with digitaly purchased games

Please help! I bought a PS5, but I sold my PS4 pro prior to that, so there was no clear cut directions to backup saves. What I did is the same process I did when you swap out the PS4 pro internal HD. I did a full system backup. So my question is, if I get another PS4 pro at factory settings, can I do a system restore with the backup files on my external Hd? If yes, can I then use that same drive to copy the saves back over, but using the correct method. Or was my system backup locked to my original PS4 pro. I have tons of save data I can't live without that I need to get on my PS5. Please help! Thank you!

Each time you play same game on both consoles, it will suspend it on the other console. You will need to keep syncing your data.
When you transfer your data it makes a copy. All your games should still work.

Go to System PS5 data transfer and automatically will transfer after and connected your pS4 in the same TV with LAN cable only and the PS5 with your WiFi networks and systems both running so fast to transfer your games 😉
You'll need to sign in first so that the PS5 knows who you are and which data is yours.
