      Dogmeat did this on my play through of that tutorial scenario as well. The last super mutant slide around Nora, engaging Domeat as well. The mutie critically failed shooting dogmeat point blank with a pipe rifle. This seemed to really piss off Dogmeat, because he literally bit the offender's hand off. It died with a stunned, childlike expression on it face.

    To be fair; Ive never played Fallout in any form, but after watching, I tend to agree, it just seems "over complicated". Brings to mind B5 Fleet Action, fun BUT, it 'literally' used every dice from D4 - D20 for wpn dmg.
    And like FFG's Armada, "cool game' but just 'too many tokens/cards'. That starts crossing the line from Gaming.. to Work. Qk Armada note; one group solved that by making the house rule, "One upgrade per ship".
    And Im w/ you Ash, "whats with the constant change in game scale?" The "Buy Me" rule?
    Wondering, in 10 yrs(?), will the 'standard' go full circle, back to the old school 54's.

    Honestly I feel the tokens are a bit too small.
    The custom dice and use of only tokens is just... well I went 'ugh, why!?' at first cause it feels way to much like a FFG than anything else. I mean at least FFG would have included some form of dial and more substantial/simplified tokens.
    The range variation feels like it could have been simplified. And why they didn't include them in Measuring gauge form I have no idea. (Color the edges based on band color. And on corners have it 'mitered'.)
    Ultimately I like the thought of the game and its customizability but I think I will wait to see how it develops a bit before investing in it. (Now if only I could get all the rules components to use with my own miniatures.)

      @Siygess Před 5 lety

      I think by luck it was mostly done correctly - you get an extra black or green die when you charge, but only in one place in the rules does it say that you choose, and everywhere it implies that the unit card or weapon card will tell you which you get. Only if you do a Battle Cry do you get both a green AND a black die on the charge. So on the charge attacks at least you can say that the green die was chosen, and the black die came from the Super Mutant's high strength :)

    I *think* that every time you hit with a weapon you also get a critical marker, but the rulebook wording is pretty weird on that, e.g. oddly specific, so I'm not 100% sure on that one. Probably quite important though if this is true, since you when you use the crit tokens to activate a crit, it hits automatically. So racking up those tokens faster will make combat even more deadly! Love the activation system though, and the effect dice once you get the hang of them.

    • @legatedrengr
      @legatedrengr Před 5 lety

      you're absolutely right there, heroic characters earn a crit token for every successful hit they make with a weapon, even if it doesn't do any damage - very useful for charging the crit metre, as i learned to my cost in my first game where my friend hit e several times with his laser rifle wielding Paladin Danse!

    • @mrgreen4290
      @mrgreen4290 Před 5 lety

      If you happen to roll the critical symbol on the skill dye you also get an additional critical meter charge. But you cannot stack crit charges past the maximum allowed on the weapon card ex:
      The laser musket takes three critical charges to fire a critical hit. Therefore, you cannot charge past 3. You can only begin to acquire critical charges once you've used the charges you have after you've acquired maximum charge.

    • @mrgreen4290
      @mrgreen4290 Před 5 lety

      Also, weapons can only generate critical charges if your model is heroic or has a critical icon. If a model isn't heroic, then you tuck the critical portion of the weapon card under the model stat card.

      Me too. Already got.around a hundred painted miniatures for 4 warbands and I was one of the Kickstarter backers for TNT.
      I love the models for FWW but the high price and complication puts me off.

    • @Mafachuyabas
      @Mafachuyabas Před 5 lety +2

      I think the complication comes from trying to make it thematical. When we got a go at it (as massive fallout fans)we thought it was fun but didn't entirely get the hang of it. it feels like they both really wanted to include as much as they could From the fallout theme and make it different from other games. The whole thing rings of a fantasy flight game with rules written by gw. I would say give it a shot at a local gaming store before you write it off

    • @Allspark
      @Allspark Před 5 lety +8

      It really depends on how familiar you are with the original 2 games. This game feels like a direct translation of the turn based combat from the original top down games. I think it captures that feel *perfectly*

      @matthewwhiteman6788 Před 5 lety

      Well I've played and beaten all of the fallout games, including brotherhood of steel (oh the shame!) To me it feels complicated for no reason, at its core the basic fallout game was quite simple, certainly in comparison to wasteland warfare.

    • @Allspark
      @Allspark Před 5 lety +3

      Ahh Brotherhood of Steel. Well, I'll be honest I'm more of a table top RPG player than a game like this - I also have worked on designing a few games. I came to this video strictly for the Fallout love more than anything.
      When I was watching them play it felt intuitive to me because of the way the terrain worked, the ranges were color coded, the numbers they had to roll (under their stats) to get hits or defend, etc I guess it could be that the targets in this game are reversed from most games. Generally, you have to meet or exceed a target number to succeed - in this game you want to roll as low as possible, and if there are other factors like distance and cover, that target number gets lower and even harder to reach.
      The tokens that I saw seemed okay, especially the reaction tokens which meant you could essentially stay on alert and if anyone came into your range you could get a 'free' attack when it wasn't your turn.
      That's what I got out of it and I was pretty excited. What I don't like about this game is mostly that the PVC miniatures seem to be fairly low quality, and if you get the resin boxed set with better minis, it doesn't even come with the Deathclaw and you have to actually buy that separately on top of the already more expensive box. That is borderline bait and switch in my opinion.

    I was looking for AI miniature driven games and I stumbled with this. It looks interesting, but I don´t like the use of tokens. At least X-Wing and Armada from FFG makes sense in the use of tokens, maybe because those games are half miniature and half board games in nature.
    Since I play many other tabletop games and this is for solo gaming, I will give it a try.

    I'm sure this was pointed out at the time, but y'all made a few rules mistakes during this demo including how armor works ( in a sense 1 + 1 does not equal 2 at least in terms of armor reduction effects ), and Dog Meat's special abilities ( he does not blind targets. He removes reaction markers ). It would be nice if you went in and edited in some text clarifying these errors.
    P.S. If I'M the one misunderstanding these rules, then I sincerely apologize, and you should delete my comment so I'M not the one confusing new players.

    I want to love this game because I love fallout and I love the miniatures but this game ticks off all of the things I hate in miniature games. It is incredibly overly complicated, token heavy, and requires custom dice. I will probably just end up picking up the miniatures and using them for my Fallout RPG.

    See, I love the idea of a Fallout skirmish wargame. I considered getting into this game, but it's just too gimmicky and there are too many symbols and arbitrarily different dice to use. And I have enjoyed 40k, Monsterpocalypse and Star Trek Attack Wing.
