    You had me at "we're driving down the Oregon coast"! If that's not on your bucket list, you need to get a better bucket! Thanks for making my heart sing, and bringing back a bunch of distant memories. I still have the little beach agates somewhere...

      Haa haaa, right?! Just the driving down the Oregon Coast part is so good. This place is pure magic just about anywhere you pull off really. I hope you can find your agates, OR you need to come back for some more! We got super lucky that day, I love that this place can continue to amaze me like that. Much thanks for coming along on the fun journeys with us, cheers!

    If I could, I would giant slab a piece of that bolder to make a kitchen countertops for you. Then you could inspect it at your own will. 🥰. That was sooooo cool! Very awesome episode.
    Can’t wait to see more of the death plate and your cutting video.
    Happy Weekend!
    Stay Crystal 💫

      Oh Maribeth, that's such a nice and wonderful thought; countertops out of these fossil plates!!!!!!! I wouldn't get anything done and I'd have divots in my counter from me prepping out some of the fossils, lol. Thanks for coming along on this adventure, one of my favorites so far. Cheers!

    Oh the memories. I swear the Oregon Coast is my favorite place on earth. At least of those I've been to in my life. Hearing the roar of the ocean heals my soul.
    My life has been on hold for several months, so I live vicariously through you and other rockhounds.
    Druzy. *swoon* Love it.
    Breathtaking landscapes/seascapes.
    Best Ozone Oregon video *ever*.
    Thank you.

      Nancy, you totally made my day with this! It's always invigorating to be in the presence of all the power and energy of the ocean. The whole trip was fun, but that beach...was so incredible it really left me speechless for quite some time (hard to do, lol). Steve only got me yammering because there were fossils and wood involved. I wish you could have joined us, I hope you get some serious beaching in when you do come. It's all about sharing all this beauty! Thanks again for watching.

      Thank you, Kyla! It's always a blast to find that much gravel (at the first site) and some fun agatey finds. BUT the big boulder with the fossils, that blew my running socks off! Complete and sincere enthusiasm for the fossils and wood there, it was all a huge surprise! Thanks for sharing the adventure with us! Cheers!

      This coastline always blows my mind. I'm from California so I could be bias towards the coast I grew up near (being the Santa Cruz/Monterey area). The stretch I shared in the video is some of the most beautiful coastline I've ever seen (including a trip to Singapore and Malaysia). It's great to be able to bring you along, thanks for watching.

    When I went agate hunting when I lived in Oregon the year Johnny Cash died, didn't know where I was going.. but with the intention of agates.. I picked up a hitch hiker that was going to the beach to return a bucket of agates cuz he was moving.. crazy way I hunted down a bucket full of LARGE Oregon agates!! I am sure glad I moved though!!

    • @OzoneFineArtVentures
      @OzoneFineArtVentures  Před 2 lety +1

      Great story! There are many ways to get agates on the coast, lol. You never know until you go. Thanks for watching!

  • @outdooradventureswithfayde6832

    Love the video! Very cool area you guys explored. Very interesting rootbeer colored agate you found. Also that fascinating fossil boulder with all the neat stuff in it. Those little stick thingies were really neat! Was also fun to see that bogwood shtuck in the cliffside like that. Definitely a magical pocket beach!! Complete with its own blowhole. I look forward to seeing your finds cut and polished and under the ole microscope. Thanks for sharing the excellent video. I just love the Oregon coast 😊

      Glad you enjoyed it, this day goes in the books as one of my faves of all time! I just cut that agate, I'll be putting up a short video on it. It, too, was a surprise, lol. That beach just blew me away, we were going to go back this weekend but got stoved up with chores. The cuts and microscopy will be coming soon, thanks for coming along on the adventure!

    * The fossil rock you found at the 14:10 mark is what they call in the Great Lakes "a Death Plate." ~ where there was a massive die-off.. ~ ~ Petrified Wood polishes nicely..

    • @OzoneFineArtVentures
      @OzoneFineArtVentures  Před 2 lety

      Thank you, Leslye. The plate that I came across surely could be a death plate. I'm not sure, need to do more research on that formation. And yes, while that wood wasn't fully petrified, petrified wood surely does take a great polish. Thanks for watching!

  • @ResortDog
    @ResortDog Před 2 lety +2

    The fossils are calcium that UV orange or yellow against the black rock. Agate glows green but I have not found one of those yet in the Franciscan.

    • @OzoneFineArtVentures
      @OzoneFineArtVentures  Před 2 lety +1

      I think I'm going into a dark room with the little piece of the plate that I have right now to see what glows, great idea! I love the way the fossil shells glow, I could look at my collection jars for hours. Thanks for watching and coming along on the adventure.

    You hit the jackpot on this trip, so green and lush, definitely better than the red dirt of the Australian outback. The beach you found looks so promising in many ways love it. Can't wait for the next part. Thx for the share, stay safe and rock on 😍✌👍

      This beach was such a surprise in so many ways, I was sincerely blown away. I think the red dirt of the desert outback surely has its beauty too. I moved here from the desert in Arizona and the green lushness isn't lost on me, so easy on the eyes! It'll be fun to go back there to hopefully find bigger specimens, thanks for coming along on the journey. Rock on!

    @largent45 Před 2 lety +1

    That was some breath taking scenery and that entire cliff side is a death plate? Come on now! If there is fossils to be had, im not leaving! Nice run! But how are you going to carry that whole death plate home? Sure, the small piece is cute and all, but the BIG one has lots more to look at!!!! Gorgeous views and nice rocks too! lol! Loved it!

    • @OzoneFineArtVentures
      @OzoneFineArtVentures  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks, Lisa! I think that just a layer of the basalt and sedimentary stratification is. The boulder that we saw in the video had about a 4-6 inch thick fossil/sandstone/conglomerate layer and then the rest of the boulder was basalt. Yes, how to get the whole thing home...hmmmm. I need to go back and remove a few of the specimens so we know what we're looking at but otherwise it will be a pleasure to go back there just for the scenery! Thanks for watching, cheers!

    I loved the fortification agate at 4:15 and if you want some lunkers I can send some your way👍 unfortunately your lapidary equipment won't like it 😂

    • @OzoneFineArtVentures
      @OzoneFineArtVentures  Před 2 lety

      You can have it, Travis! I just have to laugh, as I said in the video, our hunts are so different lol. I'd love some lunkers, we'll have to talk about a trade. Theo's Iris Agates gave my saws and lap a real workout, I know what you mean...but they're soooooo pretty, I can't keep my hands off the Montana Agates (no matter the cost to my equipment! lol).

    I miss the sounds, smells and experiences on the OC! Cold, rainy, sunny doesn’t matter to me, just being out there is a special occasion! Personally, my favorite time hunting is during a downpour! Love the crisp feeling! Another great video!

    • @OzoneFineArtVentures
      @OzoneFineArtVentures  Před 2 lety

      Thank you, Bryan! You're absolutely right, there isn't a bad day to be out on the OC. This season has been filled with sneaker wave warnings and way lots of rain, not the best beach conditions if you're going to be driving down the coast. But your words are a great reminder not to take any of it for granted, we're really lucky to be able to hang out here when we want! Thanks for watching!

    Echinoids are stacked buttons.. not long Endoceras..

    • @OzoneFineArtVentures
      @OzoneFineArtVentures  Před 2 lety +1

      I believe the long structures to either be spines from the echinoids/urchins or shells from the Dentalium (tusk shell genre). The only echinoid shells I feel I found were small sections that had the tell tale 'doughnut' shape on the surface that I indicate during the video, not all the long, spine shaped material. Folks find sand dollars and sea star fossils, which are echinoid and not button like as well. Thanks again for watching!

    Those eggs in question are squid eggs. They were everywhere last year at some point and I looked into them. Cool adventure though overall, as your driving im saying (I know that spot) 😉

    • @OzoneFineArtVentures
      @OzoneFineArtVentures  Před 2 lety

      Thank you! I can recall seeing them, and probably have been told what they were and then forget by the next season, lol. I'll refer back to these comments in the future. Don't you just love that stretch of coastline?! It's always fun when folks show paths or roads in their videos that ping the nostalgia of having been there. Thanks for the ID and for watching, happy hunting!

    • @OzoneFineArtVentures
      @OzoneFineArtVentures  Před rokem

      Hey, glad you could get out rockhounding. Seriously anywhere on the coast can be good, it just depends on the season and if that particular beach/bay gets washed out for gravel any given year. Any beach can be awesome one year and be absolutely awful the next. The best time is in the winter/spring; we'll often drive and check stuff out from the cliffs to see if gravel is showing. That beach is a little pocket beach on the central coast and didn't have any good gravel other than a few big boulders, lol.
