  • I am just heading along the Jurassic Coast from Lyme Regis. I have found a lovely sea urchin fossil find at low tide . It’s Christmas Day and that’s a great fossil hunting find for me. Its good fun to go and see the ammonites on the limestone slabs to the West of Lyme Regis, they are there for all to see until the sea erodes them away for ever. Its a very rainy day when i am out along the Jurassic Coast at Christmas. Look at the video until the end where i will give you some fossil hunting tips. I am doing guided fossil walks along the beaches of Lyme Regis. www.lymeregisfossilwalks.com Remember the cliffs are dangerous along the Jurassic Coast, they are liable to fall suddenly and without warning. If hammering any of the small layered rocks use protective eye wear and sturdy rubber gloves. To learn what are the proper small layered rocks to look for, then you can always join us on a fossil walk along the Jurassic Coast. #fossilhunter

    The video shows how variable the weather can be at this time of year, what a difference a day makes. Great idea to show typical fossil finds towards the end of the video.

    I never knew you could actually find fossil sea urchins and other Cretaceous materials in the Lyme Bay area... I knew the rocks there do expose Albian sediments, but never realised that people actually found fossils from these layers. Where abouts did you find your urchin? Would that be towards Golden Cap, or just east of Black Ven even?

    • @LymeRegisFossils
      @LymeRegisFossils  Před 2 lety +1

      You can find chert fossil sea urchins and flint ones along the Jurassic Coast. East of Lyme Regis you can spot them in the chert material on the beach at low tide

      Seriously lacking waterproof gear now as yesterday was wet too for us collecting with some showers. Today I am hiding away in the shop two days in the rain 🌧 and one to dry out 😁- I think 🤔 that’s how you do it

      @@LymeRegisFossils it’s the rain on my glasses and I can’t see is, that bothers me the more that getting wet 😬
      I usually tell myself you gotta be in it to win it 💪😜
      But this ammo is about 50-60kg and the cliff I have to climb back up with it has had a couple of big falls so I don’t fancy it in the rain 😬 Iv got enough 😜

    • @LymeRegisFossils
      @LymeRegisFossils  Před 2 lety +1

      That’s the trouble you need to go out on the beach at low tide and survive for long enough to make a few fossil finds. If you don’t then your not in it too win it 🌊🌀. But my father a geologist used to have problems with his glasses in extremely wet weather which can really be miserable in this case

      We look for fossils along the world famous Heritage Coast - named the Jurassic Coast. The fossils here from the soft marine sediments have been discovered many times before and there are many names for all of them . Everyone is looking at low tide for a different fossil find, even a new species of ammonite .

    • @LymeRegisFossils
      @LymeRegisFossils  Před 2 lety +1

      The Jurassic Coast, U.k . It’s the area of beach at low tide , West of Lyme Regis . The English Channel coast has some good fossil finds in this area . Beware of the dangerous cliffs they are liable to fall suddenly and without warning ⚠️. That’s why we look to go out at low tide
