Flying a plane, yea it's heavy and you need to be able to calculate things. Can't expect to just hop into the seat and 'wing it' - pardon the pun.
Plus better to know now before applying.

Like everywhere it is not perfect but the people make it special and I have always rubbed along very well with the Dutch wherever and whenever I have met them. I love watching your videos as they are open and honest just like the many Dutch people I have met over the years. Thank you for posting them and long may they continue...

People getting demotivating for math/ physics studies? Well maybe shouldn't be a pilot... This is not an ordinary job in a office, being a pilot is a way of life, even if you are not flying, you still think of flying. You have to study hard, training hard, is not only pushing bottons. I use to say, only people who really love to fly, have strenth enough, to become a pilot, the path is long and rough, but is reawarding at the end.

@@aena5995 Airlines or flight schools requiring A level maths and physics is done purely to restrict the number of applicants. The math you require as an airline pilot is O level standard, particularly mental math. You are definitely will not need to know how to calculate matrices whilst falling into the sea with one engine on fire.
DutchPilotGirl did not clearly say what ages "high school" refers to. In my country we do not use the term "high school" so I do not what age group she refers to. If she means up to 15 years of age that would mean O level math. If she means 15-17 years of age then that would be A level math, or intermediate math.

@@aena5995 In Europe, I’d say that Czech Republic, Poland, maybe Slovakia, Hungary and Slovenia have affordable programs in English. Worth investigating. US and Canada should be reasonably affordable. Some colleges in Québec offer 4 year degree with a commercial pilot license subsidized by the province (big $$$ savings), but you gotta be Quebec resident and speak French. Australia and NZ are probably expensive, well at least the living costs are.

First and foremost; thank you so much for taking what little personal time you have to share with us your life as a pilot. Honestly I have watched all your videos and I can honestly say not one has been demotivating. I think about today’s society and how we have what I call “fast food attitude”. We want things our way and we want them NOW. We don’t want to work for them. It’s a lazy mentality. This is why I enjoy watching you. You tell it in real life experience and don’t sugar coat things. I am glad you have addressed the educational prerequisites aspect of pilot training. In my view, it takes a certain logic and mental attitude in times of stress while in the air. Not everything is glamorous...but this is true no matter what job or passion people pursue. So, telling it like it is...is good. At the same time, you present a good mix of things in another part of the world while doing your videos rather than just classroom stuff. Great job and keep up the good work.

I have a friend who recently retired as an American Airlines 737 Captain. He always said Boeing was a pilots' airplane because the pilot was in control of everything all the time. However, Airbus was a computer operator's airplane because the computer controlled everything and the pilot was just along for the ride. My former company (Rockwell Collins - you should be familiar with our equipment) built products for both Boeing and Airbus, so I understand what he meant based on each company's requirements.

I think it goes for the rest of the aviation world as well. You need to have Mathematics + Sciences as subjects in order to pass your theory examinations. Without those subjects, it would be very difficult indeed!... Good on you for mentioning it, as it is what it is. Flying is one of my great passions in life and I've done so for 30 years. However, I'm absolutely and extremely bad at maths and not so hot with science either...but I do find both quite fascinating. And I always admire people who are gifted in that direction. Dear Michelle, I don’t think you need to apologize for being realistic with aviator career, if they are demotivated mean they don’t have enough motivation to become a pilot ! :)

Only seeing this older video today... but Mannn, I love the internet for these things. I keep saying to folks: show us the everyday, not the touristy stuff, not the special events... 'coz down the track, it'll be the everyday where we'll see the most change...
Fanx! for posting this video that's a bit of *your* everyday, Michelle... it's a revelation to see around your home for those of us 'in the antipodes' who haven't been to Europe... :)

Hey there .. So many memory's .. I 1st Visited AmsterDam in 1975 .. I had been travelling with my Girlfriend who was from America ( I am Scot's / Irish descent ) & when we arrived I really wanted to go to the Van Goch Museum ... Having been in the South of France not long B4 & having the reddish /Blonde ? Hair & stubble beard ( aged 19 ) plus Sunburn from our trip to Berne .. I was stood Next to one of Vincent's Smaller self Portrait's & Lot's of people stopped me to take my photograph Standing nest to the Portrait lol .. In those day's Amsterdam was a beautiful open & friendly City ... But I did not manage to get back until the early 1990's when I went to Visit my older Brother who had made his Home there & He has lived there since then .. where he had a career as a Singer in Rock Band's & worked in Bar's in between .. I hope to Visit someday again perhap's when the world is less in a state of Flux .. ' Turbulence ' ? lol I would really love to go Back to the Van Goch Museum & to re Visit Vondel park where my American girlfriend & I had our last Picnic B4 she went off to meet her Parent's & then to fly back to the USA .. We met in Paris & Kissed Goodbye in AmsterDam on a small Bridge near the American Embassy ?? ahh Memory's .. I don't think you would have been Born yet in 1975 ? lol I started Hitchhiking back to Paris the next morning & Every plane that flew over could have been carrying my 1st Love .. lol Please forgive an old man's rambling's .. I would love to see the Flight into Schipol ? .. I shall look through your other film's .. Best Wishes to you & all your loved one's .. Bye

Don't worry about "demotivation" ! It really isn't. It is called informing people of life and facing reality. I would love to see more of the less glamorous side of being a pilot. Not just airline but general aviation.

  • @rogerbutchbouchard8019

I really like the videos about how to fly the plane including the control button features. I would like to see if the planes you fly also have foot controls and maybe some on the ground views of the plane functions. Thank you so much!

Thanks for sharing this little video about your life outside of airplanes. I can see that Amsterdam is a beautiful city, with many bikes. From Argentina, a simple Xplane fan who always watches your videos and learns a lot, thank you.
