- Fire and shelter overnight challenge with only 2 items.
I set myself a 2 iteam survival challenge using a survival blanket shelter and a flint and steel.
my main plan was to get a fire going ASAP as the temperature dropped to -2 fast.
I was very disappointed my survival shelter was not a Body bag but it say Survival blanket.
Can I class this solo camping video as an Overnight survival challenge??
overnight survival are mostly done as a 24 hour challenge and have more bushcraft in.
Thank you for watching my youtube channel English woodsman.

Thankyou for watching this video isn't perfect but the main thing is I'M BACK AND FIGHTING STRONGER..
Keep strong Dan. Ignore the skanky morons!
If you make content that makes you happy the rest will fall in to place Dan
👍 hey Daniel, I just wanna say that I hope EVERYTHING works out the way you want them to. We can all see you're hurting. No doubt (more than just myself) wish we could do something to help.
YOU STAY BEING YOU. WE LOVE YOU BECAUSE YOU ARE JUST YOU.
my mental health is better because of YOUR channel. When I can afford a proper hot tent and sleeping pad/bag, I will be out there living, rather than just "existing"
So just know that we care about you and you are doing just fine as you are. 💯%❤️
👍👍💪💪💪💪💪
Glad to see you keep going, you are great, are yourself, not trying to be what you’re not. You keep it real and truthful. More power to you!
Hope things start picking up for you soon Dan. None of us regular fans like to see you feeling down . Best wishes and really enjoyed the video.
You should have taken some water with you Dan as a minimum requirement, even in winter you can get dehydrated.
Well done Dan. You did it and survived to tell the story. Well done fella. All the best to you. Paul.
Playing catch up DAN as you know life isn’t great fun all the time, as you said. But I’ve back on track now. Thanks for letting us see you go through the pain laying on floor at your age. MAD but great to watching mate, take care of yourself and your family and see you soon AkA Night owl from Luton ⛺️🇬🇧🍻💯👍
I’ve just started to make some videos, mainly to boost my self confidence and mental state improvement. I get my inspiration for creators like you and the thing you said about just go and do it struck a chord in me to get out of your comfort zone and live a little. I’ve said in previous comments to you, we love your content and always look forward to seeing what you’ve been up to. 🥰
The sound is good, anyone who is out alone who doesnt talk to themselves really has a problem we all do it, lol.
Glad you made it through the night. I think it would break the wind and keep the rain off but not much else. I carry one so I can use it as a tarp if needed
English Dan, just be yourself buddy. That’s what makes you special.👍
Hey I hope you’re doing ok. I’m so sorry to hear you’re having family problems. I pray that everything is okay and will get better soon. You are and I love watching your videos. I’m disabled and can’t go camping. But I get to experience it with your videos. You’re a light in such a dark world. Thank you for sharing your experiences and your journeys.
legend. really makes you think about homeless people
I did my first solo wild camp earlier this year. Have spent around £500 on a lightweight setup I can use for bikepacking and hiking. Have had a lot of inspiration from your channel.
Last night I had my 4th camp of the year. It was -9C (I'm in Sweden) and the kit held up beautifully.
So thanks for the inspiration - I hope when times are tough you realise that you are inspiring people.
Now YOU ARE THAT GUY! It is so satisfying when a kit works well.
I was going to say "bikepacking & hiking" in the UK?? You'd have your bike stolen!! Then you said you were in Sweden & it made sense😂 Good on you though for getting out there.....hope you have many great adventures⛺🏕️
hold the thought of that back pain i have that 24/7 ,which is why i cant do what you do... however i love your videos you make me smile thank you xxx
You are a beautiful, profound soul mate. Thanks for all you give us.
Lol, we used to always say "smoke follows the ugly" until it hit YOU in the face, then it was "smoke is attracted to beauty"...
Dan, your work is great.
Love your channel and what you experience every day out.
Keep up my man, for me, you r a mentor.
Sometimes you go out because you want or need.. sometimes life puts you in places that you think you ll never be.
Great mic. Clear and stable. All the best to ya Dan. Your followers are all behind you and we will, I'm sure, stay loyal to you through your recent flagging. Thanks for educating and entertaining us. All the best pal. Steve.
Well that was some challenge…..fair play to you for giving it a go and surviving the night 👍
I do like your honesty where you show that you did not get the fire lit first time. It is like that with me sometimes, I get a fire lit and it goes out and I have to start again.
Well done Dan; amazing effort and we used to cover whole bodies in leaves and use a stick convector to distribute heat towards body 🔥👍🏻
Just the title to this deserves a thumbs up !!!! Good effort !!!
have to say the wireless mike makes a huge difference!
Well done Dan, glad you managed to get out and try it. I'm always trying to think of how I can do a minimalistic bedroll but still having a bit of comfort as I suffer with my back. Great video mate 👍
Im glad im not the only one who doesnt like sleeping on the earth its why i use a hammock with a tarp these days...
Props to you, man. Spent the night one involuntarily on a mountain side once and it was a rough night.
Nice vid to watch while its so cold out. thats your comment. Keep on trukin
Full marks for doing it for real. You had to know from the start this was going to be a very long, cold and uncomfortable night. At least you know. As for the survival blanket, try wrapping it swaggie style. Swagmen would lie diagonally on their one wool blanket, tuck up the foot flap, pull one side across them then the other side and wrap up like a kebab. It solves the cold spot problem but you need to hold the flaps closed or clip them together somehow. Cheers from Downunder
Any dirt time is good dirt time and the experience gained is knowledge for later that can be passed on, just as you did.
I hope things get better for you soon.
I wish I could like this video twice - or many more times. Keep being you.
One Bushcraft trick is to make a broom from a brush top that has several branches placed properly to make tines. You can move more leaves faster! Cold weather survival is also about having energy food sources at hand. You are doing things the 'hard way.'
Sound was fine Dan....👍🏻😁👍🏻
Whatever you choose to do, I will watch. You are doing an amazing job Ni love it
This is great, can hear you perfectly Dan 👏👍👏
Great vid, thanks 👍
Well done hard core. I slept in car Saturday night and I was nippy even in good sleeping bag.
Last time I had fire woods someone reported it and fireman turned up and said it needs put out lol 😢 lol
Tyou for the great vid.
Great video Dan.
Sounds ok Dan 👍
Very glad to see your return Dan! I did have a question- if you could only bring 5 items (including food and water) out with you what would they be?
Brilliant job showing that it is possible to survive a night in the cold
Audio is excellent and I’m listening through hearing aids that I often have problems to hear with on CZcams, but you re crystal clear wherever you stand ..Nice one .
Nice one English woodsman you did brilliant with the fire , really enjoyed watching, hope your family problems sort themselves out
fair play to ya mate, i doubt id have the balls to try that (yet) but i can appreciate how you wanted " to see if i can do it"
Great vid mate.
Cracking video again Dan thanks for sharing 👍
Hope all your troubles will be far behind you very soon 👍
I cant imagine being warm enough with just a survival blanket. Well done you
Loved the challenge dan well done bud
Love the new mike, you have a great voice. I enjoy listening to you. 👍👍
Its amazing how high-maintenance and demanding people have become, nice to bring it back to basics, top video this.
Wrapped up like a turkey at Christmas. All you need Dan is cranberry sauce.
Great video. You are very brave to sleep in just one of those. Well done.
Wrapped up like a Christmas turkey, fab Chanel, love the content and the honest opinions.
I love your channel, been subscribed for a couple of years now, love it pal.
Sound was great :)
heat up rocks in fire and then use towel or something to wrap them in then put at bottom of your survival bag.seemd to be a waste not to capitalise on fire so you get a few hours sleep at least without worrying about fire going out.
Enjoyed the challenge D. ❤
Audio was top notch pal, great video as always 👍🏻
Camping in one of those pop up toilet tents would be great to see
Sound qualities great at my end… keep it up & keep the faith.
The new mike worked good Dan. That was a heck of a test for the blanket and your back lol.
Those safety Blake's are made for huddling note sleeping
Great videos man
Audio fantastic 👍
I know how things will be going right and then fate says oh no. Here are problems for ya. GREAT SOUND ! by the way.
Great video you stuck it out and proved the blanket is for emergency use.keep them your outings coming.x.
That reminds me I must get my turkey in for Christmas 😂😂😂
I was wondering where the roast potatoes, parsnips & pigs in blankets were going😂😂 He'd got more courage than me.....makes you think how the homeless people do it in the freezing cold. What was it Cruella Braverman said.....it's a lifestyle choice!! As she was chauffeured to her mansion with the heating full on & oysters, lobster, venison & champagne for dinner!!
Well done mate..interesting video, keep it up👍
Hi Dan mic is really good mate good on you for trying that blanket at least you didn’t get hypothermia lol, but at least it shows you can survive the night in so little don’t know how it would have done if it were raining though imagine it would be pretty miserable, thanks for sharing mate all the best bet a cuppa went down a treat when you got home 👍👌🔥🔥❤️
Bro your a hero. 👌👍👍👍
Sounds great..
Good luck to you mate
Thanks for the video Dan.
That "space blanket" saved my friends life once. I think I mentioned that allready in on of your videos. He ran out of petrol out of nowhere in Finnish Lapland at -25 to -30 celsius. And it took me over an hour to get to him and bring more, in the middle of the darkest night. He was just wrapped himself like a burrito in to one of those just waiting for me...
Yes a good trick is to sleep leaning up against a tree with extra benefit of wind break. I love my Verestaluka insulated tarp that doubles as a bivi bag or poncho, all the sides zip up & includes extra insulation
Collect leaves and fill bin bags, lying on the bags keeps you further off the ground and it's a bit of extra insulation for you
Thankfully you could have gone home Dan, something the homeless can't. Good on you giving it go id not
Glad your back out mate and doing what you love, that fire lighting was painful to watch mate 😂, keep up the good work mate. Atb Wullie ✊🏻🏴
Good video mate, looked like a hard and cold nights sleep, hope your back is better soon.
I enjoyed watching this challenge video you should do more videos like this keep up the good work dan
Hi Dan... new mic is perfect. Great idea 😊
Great vid mate.....thanks for sharing the torture, lol. Hope your back twernt serious.
I climbed Cadair Idris alone, and camped on top in a sheep-shelter, on a wooden bench, with a thin pad and a space-blanket sleeping bag. A gale blew that night that I thought would rip the roof off. It was awesome! :D I wasn't outside, but it was well damp, with fog inside, as the shelter had no door. One sheep stuck head in, said NAAAAaaaa! he was very disappointed. I said come back mate, there's room for tha! LOL I had some candles but no fire. I was not cold inside the space-bag, however, there was considerable condensation. I slept in my raincoat, which is the breathable kind. I enjoyed your hard-core minimalist camp!! :)
Slept on Chesil Beach last night, Dan.
Pretty nippy on those wet old pebbles.
I just had a Sundridge Suit and a tarp.
Started raining about 7.00 this morning.
Back home now. All the best.👍🏾🇬🇧
Im having this problem right now.. not family problems but work problems...dont know if im staying or going onto a new adventure in life...I do enjoy the current place I work and the lads I work with we have a strong work relationship just the management higher up dont realise how much ive contributed in the last 7 years there...were all just a number in the end which is the sad truth.
Don't let the barstewards grind you down! Do what's best for you & I know you said the lads you work with are great, but do you think they would stay if they felt under appreciated after giving so much & working hard all that time? They'd do what's best for them & their families & you have to do the same for you. You can still meet up with them for a drink & catch up if you do leave or talk to the powers that be about how you feel etc (if you haven't done already) & if they don't listen then they leave you no choice. The world's a big place & life is too short & you spend a lot of time at work to be made to feel that way. I know, I've done it in the past so take the bull by the horns & do what's best for you & your family. Hope things improve & good luck
Like always amazing camping 🏕️ video really enjoy watching yu
Here we goooo
Great video marra, keep your chin up and keep pushing forwards.
Nice one Dan,brave fella, even a tarp and pillow and scran. Should get yourself a fire blower, they are a couple quid.
Nice one mate. Braver man than me tbh.
Chin up mate i do alot of fishing 3 or 4 at a time i find it relaxing. Keep making the videos
Canadian guy I follow uses hand warmers on his go pro to keep it alive thru the night
I have watched your Blackpool videos: they led me to think about how those hardships compared to the sort of accommodations you were finding in the woods.
Keep it up dan
Audio is perfect , love the vids, keep up the good work.
👌
mic seems to be working perfectly 👍
😂 better than a £17.10p B and B. love your video's 👍
100% better
Missteps like kicking the fire take on greater importance when one is doing a challenge with minimal equipment.
Another good en pal 👍i was thinking the tinder might be too damp but ya bossed it well done 👏
I make no apologies for saying that so boring I turned the crap off BUT not all your vids can be a hit.keep moving forward son.
