Little detail that probably anyone already notice: Sans is winking with his "dangerous" eye, so he's friendly towards you
Sans recognized the player as an entity he can't defeat in Undertale.
He and Flowey know you'll stop playing if they don't behave correctly. So he's playing nice.

Sans's wink actually will change eyes depending on what kind of playthrough you are playing in Undertale. Not arguing with your overall theory though.
In matpat other theory of undertale sans was traveling to other timeline so that's why he's glowing eye work
the surface in deltarune reminds me of hometown from Don’t Forget, save for some details and the whole “simulation” thing. it’s a “world” parallel to undertale, but where the war never happened, triggering connections and differences to the undertale timeline.
Coming back to this theory after the release of Deltarune: Chapter 2, I think that Kris is taking the SOUL, us, out of him so that he can go see or meet with someone. Mabye he is meeting with…
…him.

Something I hadn't considered until now; what if the monsters won the war? The monsters won and banished the humans to the underground. All except for one. If the humans and monsters coexist peacefully, than why is Kris the *only* human we see? The baby bunny in the overworld ("Are you a human? Does it hurt being made of blood?") seems to confirm that Kris is the only human in this small town.

Just one human is more powerful than all of the monsters combined. I doubt the monsters would have won the war. More likely there was never a war to begin with.
I always thought that they just lived in a part of town that was mostly populated by monsters. However, this thought has crossed my mind before, and it is interesting to think about :P

Thats what i thought. But all the characters are acting peacful and arent in any way expressing anger towards Kris ( witch in undertale you can see that some monsters dont like that theres a human in the underground).Everything is peacful and noone mentiones a war. In undertale they do, but i guess we wont know until chapter 2.
The River Person mentioned to the player in Undertale “Beware the man from the other world”. What if they're talking about Ralsei, who’s from a different world in Deltarune?

@@hollowknightenjoyer I replayed Undertale recently, hence why I was watching theory videos, and the River Person does say it as one of their dialogues. You could probably find it on one of the fandom wikis if you dont believe me. Deltarune is theorized to be another world since none of the characters knew eachother well unlike Deltaune, and even though it could be said about any Deltarune character, I was talking about the Dark World being the other world, and with Ralsei being the most suspicious Darkener I thought it was fitting to make the connection

Also a good thing to note that in the dark world, when you save, the save files goes from Kris’ name, to the PLAYERS name. Not the name of the character you thought you were making in the intro, but what you named YOURSELF in the intro.

... If Gaster is what we're assuming pulls these games together, how do we know WE, collectively, aren't Gaster? I mean, he was spread across time and space, right? Kind of like we are every time we start over in Undertale, every time we make different decisions in the games, not to mention the fact that we're in a completely different world and timeline with Delta Rune. And 'speaking in hands'? Sure, there's the whole thing with the wingdings font, but that phrase could be used to describe what I'm doing right now, and what you do every time you make a dialogue option in a computer game; talking to people, using our keyboards, with our hands...

Though, Undertale establishes Gaster as its own character. A scientist. Most of the followers know of Gaster. If we're one of them, or Gaster himself, we would know so, or the followers would react differently.
Also the beginning of Deltarune has Gaster talking.

But we also hear the turtle mention the “delta rune” back in undertale. He says it there and then and how it was the kingoms symbol, about how it was to do with the “angel”. Wonder if that plays into it.

15:14 It's funny, the same is true for Undertale. Funny no one really thinks of it, but in Undertale Frisk is controlled by you, You're the one making all the decisions. Your SOUL is taking control of a vessel in the form of the 'fallen' human, Frisk. While in Deltarune, Kris still has their own will and rejects your control

To be fair if the pacifist is the true ending, then doing so you are doing what Frisk would do, in the end they are aware of everything as they said their name to Asriel normally, whitout our control, showing that our control over them was an illusion, at least in pacifist route, as undertale is open for many choicex
While in deltarune is the opposite, if Kris is the alternate version of Chara, they are closed in one unique timeline in deltarune, the pacifist timeline that Chara/Kris would never do
This is the difference, undertale you are a good person that HAVE the choice of being a bad person through the player, while deltarune you are a bad person THAT DOESNT HAVE any choice but being the good person their entire life because the player cant choose
frisk doesn't actually exist, its just us, the player thats why we get to name the fallen human and control them, making our own story. undertale is powered by our determination to make a difference for the monsters (idk how to explain it)

I'm starting to believe that this was sans's original universe. Notice how they randomly "appear" in Undertale and he seems extremely depressed and lazy.
I believe it's because he was sent to a war torn world by some kind of mistake vs this world which was not war torn. Not to mention his lines like "I gave up on trying to go back a long time ago".
Judging by all of that and another line stating(rough quote can't remember it off the top of my head completely) "Its a picture with three people on it, on it is written 'don't forget'.
Sans states that he'd like you to befriend his younger brother who I'm assuming is a very young papy, so when they are transferred over to the world of Undertale Sans still remembers the three... Kris, Susie, and "Ralsei"(Asriel). But that's just my theory lol.

This is perfect. So the ending of the game wouldnt matter like toby said because the ending probably would be whatever you did in the dark world finishing and the real world coming back into play.
This is awesome and it makes sense, but...why does being in a different world affect your control over Kris? What causes it?
this is EXACTLY why i disagree with imagination theory, i think the world is made out of the imagination of kris or us, but it becomes real.(matpat is really pushing the “its all a imaginary game they are both playing)
also, i think the reason why you can control this world slightly more is because your not 100% controlling kris at this point, your controlling the avatar character in this fantasy world that is being played by kris, so its another filter, one that isn’t 100% kris.

"No one can choose who they are in this world." Yes... You can't choose who you are, but that's not the same as choosing what you can do. Choosing whether or not to fight isn't the same as choosing who you are.
I already said this in the last part, but it's even more relevant here:
It's quite possible that we'll get a *different playable character* in the second chapter. Since the heart doesn't represent Kris' soul but rather the player's, whichever character wields it is the one that being played (with the soul even representing the entire party in chapter 1, at least during battles).
So probably *Asriel* comes home and finds the soul inside the cage in the room, or maybe even *Toriel* does so the next morning.
DefinitivNichtSascha what if we get to play the other souls in the next ones? There are seven days if I remember correctly and seven different flower/soul colours. What do you think?
@@CanaanTheWingedOne That would be really interesting, but both Deltarune and Undertale seem to be establishing that we (the player) are in control of the red soul. Also, Deltarune does appear to be setting up for each chapter to be a day in that town until Asriel comes home, I think Matpat said that in his last video. There are no other humans in that town (as far as we've seen) so for it to go to us controlling a different soul, we wouldn't be able to see all of the things the game told us to come back to the next day.
Yeah, if we get a different playable character for every chapter, I think Toriel is going to be next, with Asriel being the final one.
That would actually be super cool, especially in the context of Sans asking you to meet him the next day. If he knows he's really talking to us/the red soul instead of Kris, us/the red soul playing a different character and meeting him would confirm his suspicions or maybe cause him to reveal to us if he knows about Undertale

I am 90% with you on this. I'd just like to add that I believe that the force behind Deltarune (whether or not it's Gaster). Is making Kris's imagination into reality. Instead of the Dark World being completely metaphorical, I believe that it started that way, but was brought to life by the higher force.

I dont know if it really is Gaster or some other entity behind it, but I'm almost certain that the dark world is not 100% imagination. I dont buy the "it was too immersive for Susie" excuse. You never come out of a game questioning if what you experienced by it was *real* or not, no matter how moved by it you were.

I like this idea! It also adds to the "Your choices don't matter", as Kris' imagination is then literally taken from them and forced to come to life, and Kris forced to live it without being able to control it.

One of the biggest misconceptions in the Undertale lore: Sans DOES NOT REMEMBER any resets! He is simply AWARE that they exist and can happen! He knows that there’s an “anomaly” causing the resets, he just can’t find out who. The knowledge that he will always forget what happens, basically gives him a negative view on everything in life

You might already know this but the old turtle guy in undertale actually mentions the DELTARUNE which is the emblem of the dreemur family which shows he has been planning this for ages, and when it comes up Deltarune is in yellow showing importance. Also the shopkeeper mentioned that the wings mean the Angel of Death and in Delta rune you must banish the Angels Heaven, just thought i'd say. please like so MatPat can see.

@@baker7280 especially when Toby has stated that he started planning Deltarune before he started working on Undertale. Deltarune was partially planned out already when he started working on Undertale to work on a smaller game before trying to work on a larger one. It's highly unlikely he just put the Delta Rune in Undertale for no reason considering it was a big part of the plot of Deltarune, and then in Undertale saying "it's original meaning has been lost to time". There's definitely many things that you could say people are looking for connections where they don't exist or are stretching to find connections in things that weren't meant to be over-analyzed, but for the game that was actually thought of second (Undertale) to include the symbol by the name of the game he started writing first, is something too large to be simply a re-usage of the name.
Toby had asked people to wait and not post about Deltarune until 24 hours after it had been made available.
After, he said he understood the people who didn't wait, because he himself had been waiting six years.

If the war never happened why is Kris the only human? It seems more to me like the monsters won the war so Undyne grew up one the surface. In the dialogue with Noelle's dad, he mentions that Kris used to scare Noelle by being "the human under the bed" much like "the monster under the bed" in the real world. I don't think that would be considered scary unless humans were considered something to fear before Kris was adopted by Toriel.

Alliens are scary. If humans and monsters live in separate communities and don't interact often, human wold be as scary to monster child, as monster to human child. Afterall, undertale monsters have very humanlike personalities.

The thing I like about Game Theory is even though I rarely ever agree with the things they are trying to prove, they do present small little details and research that I've never noticed before that I can use to build my own understandings of what happens.

The concept that the player and Kris being 2 separate beings is something that I thought I would see in the game that would be released after Doki Doki Literature Club. The secret content in DDLC, Monika says that "it's time to be a hero, BOTH of us". To me, I thought that the "player" and the "character" would not be the same, just like Deltarune. That got me excited to see if it's be a game where player and character would either fight for control, or work together. That could open up a lot of new and unique game mechanics.
Well, a body is needed for the player.
Unless that body we made and was discarded and given to us.

@Karol Gutowski If you noticed in Entry Number 17 from undertale...the reasons it was cut out from the True Lab cause its not related somehow. Toby Fox before releasing Deltarune released tweets with words referencing Entry Number 17. And also that entry from undertale is Gaster saying that he is making a new experiment. Toby Fox talks like Gaster which shows that Gaster is the creator of the world of Deltarune. And that in Entry Number 17 shows that Gaster is making an experiment, that experiment might be a teaser for the upcoming deltarune game that was released. If we payed attention to this. Then perhaps Deltarune's release might be not much of surprise. AND maybe those 2 other guys that Gaster was referencing was Sans and Flowey...I think. Its ridiculous to say all of this that I want someone to correct me xD. Also that Jevil's mind was BLOWN AWAY when he knew that everything was a game which was said by gaster...but many would refer that the Dark world was just a game...BUT it could also mean the GAME in general. In Matpat's other theories...he showed that the followers of Gaster that can only be accessed through different fun values said that Gaster was shattered through Time and space...what if he was transported into the actual real world? Where he is watching the whole world of undertale and deltarune....and sans and flowey are actually real too. This means that Gaster believed his own world from Undertale was the real world...but when he fell into his creation, we would think that he is lurking around that isn't detectable anywhere...cause he is in the real world...and after a while...he got much comfortable in that place...he started to make games now. The voice is not Gaster, it is Kris. Kris CHOSE to allow the player to take over his body DURING THE DAY. You can tell this was preplanned as, even though he has never been possessed before, he knew to have that cage in his room, ready for the player's soul. He also seemingly dealt with the player with complete confidence and control at the end; a person newly possessed and regaining their will would likely panic, definitely not react with excitement and confidence.
Kris let ththe player possess him. Likely the reason is because he needs your soul, along with Susie's monster soul, to create that illusionary world for BOTH the player and Susie. The world created is real, but controlled like a TTRPG by Kris, thus the reason Susie honestly wonders if it is a dream or not, upon coming out of that world. You and Susie played a game in that room, but that world was as real as the illusion worlds created by both Omega Flowey and Asriel Dreemurr. The power of a human soul and a monster soul has been shown to synergize into reality warping magic. Kris, no longer tied to his physical form, used Susie's and the player's souls to create the Darkener world and the entire adventure for you all.
Extra theory, Ralsei is Kris's inserted character. Kris normally is shy and unassertive compared to his brother. It would be obvious that if he controlled a character playing in that world then he would probably act a lot like the meek shy prince, Ralsei (using his brother as inspiration for his character's form). Primarily, Kris may only be doing this as a form of escapism and to finally fill a void, left by his brother going off to college, by playing with both you and Susie, as his own character (Ralsei) along with the DM.
