I still have all of the comments from the other video and all of your suggestions. Feel free to leave them here again if you like though!
In this video, I'll be going over the quick history of my channel and talk about how it got to where it is now.
I also give a quick tour of my old lab, as well as my new lab that I just finished building.
A big thanks goes out to everyone who has helped me and supported me along the way. All of your donations and kind words have been extremely helpful. This year has just begun, and I can't wait to see what it has in store for me.

Glad to see you expanding. I hope the best for you.
    My 2 cents:
You need ventilation in that acid cabinet. It’s going to rust out the entire cabinet over time, even with the containers closed. A plastic acid cabinet would work better, even if you don’t have ventilation (which I strongly support installing).
Separate your oxidizers. I can appreciate them being in an explosion proof fridge, but you shouldn’t store the oxidizers with flammables. I would even go so far as to say you should keep the nitric in its own storage.
Label your cabinets. Keep an accurate chemical inventory. Not sure how it works in your neck of the woods, but label your chemicals with their associated hazards if they are in secondary containers. Local fire department will appreciate the inventory it if it is ever needed (among other reasons).
Someone else already addressed the emergency eye wash problem. While I hope you never need it, it’s important that it’s readily available.

      @HMan2828 Před 6 lety +16

Anything flammable can go in the explosion proof fridge. Acids, bases, oxidizing and reducing agents should each get an individual acid and base resistant polyethylene bag. If you are in Quebec you WILL get inspections from the fire department, and also any worker safety office (in Quebec it's CNESST) in any commercial building. That is not mentioning the insurance company. PE bags are a cheap and effective way to get around special cabinets. You may need to put a lock on each cabinet though, and get a CO2 and fire detector, and keep a thorough inventory down to the gram of some substances in case of theft or fire. You'll probably also need to get your CPR training if you haven't got it already and commercial fire extinguishers of a different kind than you would for home use. Probably more than one class. The floor mats may also be an issue but that depends what they are made of. If they are acid and base resistant and flame retardant it should be fine.

Hi nile, first of all thank you for all the effort that you have put into the making of this lab. I plan to become a patreon as soon as I get some revenues whatsoever. You totally deserve it.
Secondarily I've got some questions for you.
1)Are you gonna protect your fumehood in some way? Because metal doesn't behave well with a lot of chemicals that you use.
2)Do you plan to install a vacuum pump and nitrogen in your fumehood? Because this would cost something like 1000-1200 additional dollars, but it would increase *so much* the range of your possible experiments. Even suzuki couplings for example.
Of course you have spent a lot of money on this project, and your lab is already awesome, so this is totally optional.
Also, I would recommend installing running water into your fumehood. I mean putting water in the cupboard below, cuz if you'll have to refrigerate something having water tubes all across your lab isn't going to be fun.
Hope this wasn't too long to read, thank you again :)

I've only come across your channel today for the first time and would like to say, Thank you. Once upon a time I was working on a B.S. in Biochem as well, unfortunately things didn't work out as I burned out with an aggressive schedule and was honestly not emotionally mature enough to fully hone my focus to complete my degree. I was about a year away from completing my B.S. and haven't been in a lab since probably 2011, watching your material brought back so many memories of hours of lab work that I always resented because it felt like a complete B.S. earning 3 units for 6 hours of lab time, not including the hours of prep work for success with the lab experiments, in a new nostalgic positive light. I had practically blocked out all of the memories because of how disappointing it was to not finish my B.S.

Just recently subscribed, however have been watching your videos for quite a while. I watch with my two little boys to help them learn about how things work. Keep up the great videos. I am fascinated with biology as well as physics and string theory which is funny because I'm just a carpenter. Again great job making this a viable income source while doing what you love, loving what you do and getting paid to do it is something not everyone gets out of life. Good job.
