    Good stuff! My only suggestion is to beef up your med kit. It doesn't have to be over the top, but adding some essentials like a way to stop bleeding (blood stopper bandages, clot powder or commercial tourniquet), med tape, sterile bandages, and a Nu Mask (for CPR). I've learned a few things the hard way in 20 years of professional guiding. Everyone thinks they'll improvise in an emergency, but having a few essentials could make all the difference. And then I had a question: have you looked into the ultralight single wall tents? I'm always trying to decide if I should bring a tarp, a tent or bivy. Basically if there's any chance of weather I bring the single wall tent - it's lighter than the bivy and tarp combined. Good luck and enjoy the hunt!

      Yes indeed, I have looked at and tried a bunch of different shelter options; one-man double-wall tents, single-wall tents, floorless tarp/tents with a footprint. I keep coming back to a bivy/tarp combo for archery elk hunting. For me, it’s the best option for a few reasons but the ease of use, versatility, and dependability are among the top. I don’t have to pitch a tent or a tarp most nights and I can put a bivy out almost anywhere. I’m in bed in minutes and I’m packed and ready to go even quicker. With this system, I have never had issues keeping my gear dry. I don’t get the condensation you can get in a closed up single-wall shelter and I have enough room for me and my gear with the bivy/tarp. Everyone has their preferences, but for me, I’ll always be a proponent of bivy/tarp hunting for archery elk.

    I took my quiver off once while hunting and it cost me an elk because the first shot hit a branch and deflected the elk actually cut the distance to me in half and stopped not knowing what had happened unfortunately I was pinned down and couldn't get an arrow out of my quiver so needless to say I will never again detach my quiver while hunting.

      The Hungry Hunter I agree. I use the Q-lite from Mathews it’s a two piece that I love . It’s so light I forget it even there . Plus I do ALL practice with a full quiver and used to it

    Trail, any tips for dealing with condensation in your bivy?..

    Did you T&E that Stargazer Bivy on your 2018 hunts? What do you think of it in comparison to others you’ve used?

    • @GOHUNT
      @GOHUNT  Před 4 lety

      I did indeed use the StarGazer this entire season. I like the design of it a lot and if you get stuck in a rain or snowstorm it’s definitely a better design than the simple over the face hoop bivy’s like the Alpine or the Helium. The way the Star Gazer hoop goes diagonally across your face keeps it up off your head and it’s also much easier to get into with the zipper going over your head and then down to about your hip on the one side. The one thing I do wish is that it was slightly larger. If you have your sleeping pad and bag inside the bivy I do feel like you lose a slight amount of loft in your bag due to compression (smaller size of the bivy). My older Alpine bivy easily fits my sleeping pad and bag. On some later hunts this fall, I was using a polypro ground cloth then putting my pad on top of it and then just my sleeping bag in the Star Gazer bivy. I like the bivy, I like the design, I just wish it was slightly larger. Hope that helps!

    Brother great gear list but please clean the blood off the sleep pad don’t want you to be a snack in a sack (bivi) grizzlys in Wyoming. I know you have done this all before but you can roller skate down the interstate too, but eventually luck runs. out be safe 👍🏻

      Where we are hunting in Wyoming there are few grizzly bears, but I will usually bring bear spray with just in case.
