      She hit the nail on the head the graphics are really beautiful I bought it played through about 3 hours of it in the back of my mind I kept hoping it was going to get better but sadly it didn't.
      The combat is great it fluid but seriously the characters are so boring and so stiff I honestly don't care for any of them it is literally the worst tales game I have ever played.
      Much like her I actually started with tales of Symphonia and I loved it so much. But once I finish playing this game and don't get me started on that final act with all that dialogue oMG 🙄 I couldn't delete it off my computer fast enough.
      But you might have a much better experience, with that said it is extremely linear and I mean extremely linear heck it's even more linear than the last tails game Tales of Beresria sorry if I misspelled it.

      There is a fair bit of humor left in Arise in the form of conversations and little quips while traveling but it does indeed take a bit more serious attempt at the Tales Series. All in all I don't necessarily feel like its a bad thing. It adds to the depth and seriousness of the story. There are important issues that are part of the story in which we all live our every day lives in. I also feel like the story was written in a way that younger people, even kids, and grown adults can enjoy the dialog and make understandings in the moral of the conversation

    I’m late to this video, but what you said about Tales Of Arise is true. It’s still good, but like you mentioned, I missed the Humor, the jokes. The only little funny moments were like Rinwell and Law. But that’s nearly it. But in older games the slots were always so funny. Let it be Symphonia, Vesperia, abyss, Xillia. I feel like since Zestiria they started to loose the typical Tales of Humor more and more.

  • @Undeadspelldragon
    @Undeadspelldragon Před 2 lety +1

    I've got an RPG recommendation for you if you enjoy Mary Skelter. Labyrinth of Refrain: Coven of Dusk. Same style of first person RPG, fantastic music, lovely and sometimes terrifying art, and a story that only gets better the more you play.
    This doesn't get brought up much in the RPG Fandom, but it's also refreshing to play a game where you're not some teenage boy saving the world. You play YOU trapped in a magic book in the possession of a witch and her young apprentice. They have been tasked with solving the mystery of a labyrinth that exists in a small town's well, but as you progress you learn the witch has her own motives and secrets.
    Oh, for those who love extra content, this has my favorite post game content ever. It doesn't pull the "true ending" nonsense some RPGs go for, but it gives you more insight into a key player who was behind the scenes for most of the main game. You can skip it and still enjoy the main game, but it's so well done it's just more fantastic content.

    Being strictly a PC guy, I'm happy to finally be playing the Atelier games, and I've started with the Mysterious trilogy. Just played Sophie (took about 100 hrs) and am now starting Firis. These are wonderful games. I really enjoy turn-based combat, so these are fun. The characters are all charming and there's a good bit of voice acting. While Sophie has the standard Anime voice, it's not annoying and some of the other characters are unexpectedly different for anime. The graphics in general are beautiful. All told, a great RPG with a main storyline, side quests, major character quest lines and, of course, lots of gathering, crafting and combat. Great stuf.
    Amalor is amazing, especially with the game's company's dumpster fire. For a corporate disaster to actually come out with a great game... well, it doesn't happen often.
    Spiritfarer is another calming (cozy?) game that I find charming, if a little melancholy. Thanks for a fine video.

    Awesome to see your list and videos. Watch them with my wife all the time. Just got Ryza 2 in the mail yesterday but haven't finished the original yet. Got my wife Pioneers of Olive Town for Christmas to feed her farming game addiction so excited to see her open her presents!
    One request when/if you are able: Could you make a video on crafting in Atelier games? My wife's trying to get into them (starting with the Mysterious Trilogy) but the crafting systems are pretty confusing. Would be great to hear tips/tricks from an Atelier Master. 😊

    Unpopular opinion here, but I think Tales of Arise was stained by that constant playstation store access in the camping menu, not to mention it did feel like they kinda made it a bit grindier to push the microtransaction aspect in it. I did appreciate the character at first though, although the longer you played the more anchored in their trope they were.

    • @alexterieur8813

      Yes the game tried to push the microtransactions! That soo bothered me since i dont recall a tales of game ever doing that! Seeing the psstore accessible every time i camped was fucking annoying, plus the money being hard to get to incentivize buying gel sets was outrageous to me

Blue reflection.. they should have just called it the 130 dollar incomplete ryza lite clone censor worshippers demo. Buying that "limited edition" and waiting years for this "blue reflection sequel" is my biggest gamer regret and disappointment of all time. KT needs to learn a lesson from idea factory for what a real limited edition is too. Ryza 2 is my game of the year too.. they really raised the bar several notches with this one. All jokes aside, you should check out the first Tales sometime if you haven't, Tales of Phantasia on the SNES. Great game even for its time, and the humor is there aplenty; don't expect the skits though, they didn't come out until much later. I think you'd love it.

    I really loved Tales of Arise, it's a shame you didn't enjoy it too much. I actually appreciated the seriousness of it but I think there were quite a few funny moments where I literally lol'd. I also loved that they brought a romance to the Tales games finally. I have been longing for that for a long time (and it's pretty well done too and not overly cheesy or anything).
    On the other hand, I absolutely HATED Story of Seasons Pioneers of olive town... Hated hated hated it. I actually just sold it because 🤢. No thanks lol.

    • @brandonmoss7976
      @brandonmoss7976 Před 2 lety +1

      Tales of a Arise is literally the worst tales game I've ever played, what did you like about it? I'm just curious.
      The characters are boring and forgettable and Laws' dialogue before a certain boss fight. Almost made me uninstall the game right then and there.
      The combat is great though but the characters are extremely forgettable to me and that last sequence of dialogue well let's just say I have no intentions of ever playing that game again 🙃

    • @nekokikogaming3530
      @nekokikogaming3530 Před 2 lety +1

      @@brandonmoss7976 I liked almost everything about it... The battles are fun, the characters are much better than previous Tales games. Just more likeable and relatable (to me anyways).
      I absolutely hated Berseria. Like the way you are describing how you hate Arise, that's how I hated Berseria lol. I hated Velvet and her emo ass ways and I hated how they made her look like a hooker with those ugly ass "clothes" (I couldn't play the game without dlc because how can you take a character seriously when they look like that). I also hated the story and found it super boring. Oh and the combat... Dear God it was so bad. So confusing and boring to a point where I was going out of my way to avoid battles.
      I also played Zestiria and the entire game I just couldn't wait for it to end.
      Vespiria I only played a bit of so I can't speak to it really and I only played Xillia 1 which is the other Tales game I really loved.

    • @ifrit1937
      @ifrit1937 Před 2 lety +3

      @@brandonmoss7976 Eh characters definitely aren't the best imo, would say Berseria takes that with Abyss, Xillia, and about half of Vesperia's cast (mainly Raven, Judith, The Don, and Karol...didn't like Yuri most tbh) being better but i'd say it's characters are in the upper third of the games and is about on par with Symphonia's and Legendia's....Alphen is my favorite MC in the series though and the first time the MC of a Tales game being my favorite character both to play and personality wise in the game.
      Story wise i'd even say it's about rank 4 after Symphonia, Berseria, and Abyss with Xillia nearly tied at 5th.
      Combat though is where the game thrives though with it being my second favorite (nearly tied with 1st) combat system in the series after Hearts R/Xillia 2 (which i'm counting together cause outside of the gimmicks for each game the core combat system is mostly the same in regards to the free chaining aspect). It's also the first game in a very long time that doesn't use arte trees, which i personally don't like, and the bosses actually stood a chance with how they are designed and could kill you if you're careless cause you can't juggle them to death the moment you get them into the air (bosses have been far too easy for a long time now for a good decade).
      With that said Arise had 2 main problems for me personally:
      -1st the side quests were very lackluster. Too many fetch/hunt quests, roughly 80% of all quests, and barely any story driven quests that focused on character building or world lore (closest was the Lord quest in Lenegis which imo should've been broken up into 5 quests and expanded a lot more to give more details about each lord/main villain of each region).
      -2nd was the ally AI...it was quite frankly horrible with the AI being far too suicidal (especially Shionne and Rinwell who shouldn't be anywhere near the enemies tbh). On top of that the AI strategy menu being party based was the worse decision i've ever seen in the series, they should've separated the AI strategies by character like past games did and made sure to have something like keep ____ many meters away from the enemy for Shionne and Rinwell.
      And as for a lesser extent but is complained about more by other people:
      -could've used more humorous skits/skits that didn't rehash the story as much as they did
      -the second half coud've been paced better with the addition of a couple more dungeons to break up the cutscenes
      -the lords/enemies could've used a bit more screen time or background given about them in the main story via npcs after their death if not through cutscenes while they were alive.
      -the 'final boss' (i don't consider him it though, instead the 2 part fight right before him is what i consider the final boss) could've had his background explained better if they required players to actually look at the 4 monitors that you can miss on Lenegis after the cutscene regarding him/the crown contest's true origins/purpose.
      -the actual final boss that i consider the final boss either could've been written better with more solid motives or should've been scrapped to make the actual Renan king the main antagonist/final boss instead (granted wouldn't really be a classic Tales story twist but would've worked a bit better imo to make a slightly more solid story. Main issue with the final boss in Arise is it's pretty much like Vesperia's Adephagos, granted in Arise you actually fight it and it has far more agency in the story than the Adephagos ever did (imo Vesperia 3rd act is Tales storytelling at its absolute lowest even though it's cast and story was solid up until that point...the drop in quality from a great story to an absolute shit final arc has actually landed Vesperia as my 2nd to lowest ranked Tales game with only Zestiria ranked below it (and let me be clear all of Zestiria's story is bland as fuck but it was better than Vesperia's 3rd act imo...only thing keeping Vesperia from last place is the first 2 acts and good characters).
      -and as for another of my own personal pet peeve, though a minor one: lack of puzzles (some people will see it as a positive though).
      -would also say the game could've expanded on Rena a bit more with at least 1 or 2 extra post game dungeons on the plantet.
      -something i and quite a few other people didn't like: all characters could either only dodge or guard and not both, imo all characters should be able to do both.
      -not being able to cancel arte animations via dodging is also something a lot of people complained about and i can somewhat agree...at the very least the very long artes should have at least one attack mid arte that could be canceled after it hits (say the 3rd or 4th hit in Dragon Swarm for instance).
      -and of course there's the lack characterization for the chracters which I only partially agree with...each character was developed well imo but they could've pushed all of them a bit more if they tried...adding more Artifact mania cutsceens/skits for Dohalim for one, Giving Kisara more 'mom' moments for the group would've helped her too, focusing a bit mroe on Alphen and Shionne getting closer would've been nice, adding a bit more to Law and Rinwell's characters could've helped them a bit (especially Rinwell as out of the party members she felt the least developed/focused on imo cause outside of hating Almediria, bullying Law, and Hootle you didn't really see much about her tbh...as for Law they probably could've did a bit more than the muscle brained idiot or attempt at big bro over Rinwell with him). Would say Alpen and Shionne talking more about their past (pre iron mask Alphen in particular) would've added a bit more story beats to the game...especially if Alphen had skits regarding how things were in specific areas during his 'younger' years.
      The game's already solid but addressing most or all of the above would easily cement Arise as one of the best Tales games in the series imo (at the moment it's in contention with Symphonia for that title for me...main thing that's making it hard to decide is Symphonia's got the better story and side quests but Arise has the better combat, visuals, map layouts, skill system, equipment system (in particular accessory system which Should'e been what was done with zesty and Bersy's skill systems imo) etc...basically it's coming down to if i should choose story over gameplay for me lol).

    I didn't even think that Tales of Arise was so serious. I agree it would have been better with some dirty humor. I'm 5 hours in Scarlet Nexus and I don't like it very much either. I will play it through though and then start the more interesting Shin Megami Tensei V. I wish they found a reason to make Ryza 3. Maybe it could be in the future when Ryza have grown old and the main protagonist could be Ryza's daughter or something. Maybe with more complicated story this time. Ryza 2 definitely still game of the year. They just nailed it.
