What a…**weird** night. Thoughts?
I disliked this video for two reasons.
One, I think a switch 2 announcement in January or February could kill interest in software for the switch. Even though you said it wasn't a prediction I still find it irresponsible for you to put such an unreasonable theory out there.
Two, I disliked that your take as to why there weren't any switch game announcements. Nintendo has shifted to a shorter release schedule they don't want or need to reveal anything because the first four months of 2024 have games announced.
Hey Rob, I liked your video! This other commenter calling you irresponsible for just doing some video games speculation... a little over the top, to say the least. Anyways, TotK was my game of the year, and was THE game of the year. I'm glad that it didn't win the Geoff Keighley goty award, as I feel the list of winners over the years is less than stellar and I didn't want tears of the Kingdom to be sitting on a list having been recognized from the same people who would recognize The Last of Us Part 2. Also Cyberpunk winning the best ongoing game award is absolutely hilarious. It's almost like a roast, but it's serious
@@saintlugia So you disliked the video because Rob theorized about something that will likely happen? Nintendo is almost certainly going to reveal the Switch 2 at least in the first quarter of the year, so at the very latest March.
At this point, Nintendo just seems so committed to doing things their own way, and honestly, I don’t see why they shouldn’t. Last nights award show livestream peaked at around 870k viewers, when Nintendo Directs get well over a Million.
You also gotta take into consideration all the people watching live streamers stream the show as well.
@@johnflores4913 True, but thats true for both the award show and Nintendo Directs
@@zeltroid also true. Nintendo is in its own league, they drop info whenever they want and they still succeed at it.
why pay millions of dollars for an ad slot where your game gets completely overlooked and forgotten about when you have a much more condensed show, both in time and quantity of games, for all of the games have more time to shine, go more in depth about those games, and be way cheaper with MORE viewership?
Nintendo Directs are a much better show both for Nintendo and 3rd parties that are a part of it.
@@Goosewitdajuice317 bro Nintendo solely relies on exclusives and almost absolutely no third parties💀Xbox and ps have 99% the same libraries with 1% exclusives. Nintendo has some of the highest rated games ever and has continued to sell much better than ps5 and Xbox. You can’t tel me they’re not in their own league.
When Reggie was running the show at NoA, he and Geoff have always communicated everyday regarding The Game Awards or any other event hosted by Geoff Keighley
And it looks like that there's barley communication between Nintendo and Geoff since Reggie left and leadership has changed a lot
The awards are trash and Geoff is a__hole anyway.
How do you even know thats true that reggie and geoff communicated “every day”
Nintendo definitely treats the show as a place for any extra stuff that they could just reveal that doesn’t fit into their strategy or for something that releases before the next direct that they may want to show. Honestly, TGA and Geoff need to rework the ceremony. It doesn’t feel like the celebration of gaming that it wants to be with the rapid firing of some award announcements and rushing winners off stage. Majority of these developers do not speak English natively and/or are overcome with emotion. Forcing them to only speak for 30 seconds or less is a slap in the face. When presenters get more time than winners then there’s a problem. Cut down on the amount of awards if you don’t want to hand out awards and have the winners speak afterwards and let the winners have their moment.
Agreed.
Rob, you REAAAAALY should play Bayonetta Origins. It is SOOOO inspired by traditional 2D Zelda and Metroid (the map is literraly filled with shortcuts!) but with a modern spin. Every chest you open has piano notes, there are puzzles and collectibles and the final battle is UNBELIEVABLE! One of the most underappretiated games just because of the artstyle. If you liked Okami, I hope you give it a try and speak more about more variety of games that are cool
One day maybe! I didn’t really love much of what I’ve seen from it. And I think Okami is good (but not amazing). However when it’s super cheap and I’m looking for something random I may eventually try it. 😁
I'm pretty sure one of the main reasons why it's so "underappreciated" is because of all the drama surrounding the _previous_ Bayonetta title (that is Bayonetta 3) convincing many to pass over the prequel game out of personal dissatisfaction with how Platinum Games has mishandled the franchise. The game itself is good but given the aforementioned drama i can understand the collective unwillingness to play any future Bayonetta games.
“Mishandled the franchise”? Hmm, weird. I’ve never felt that or seen any conversation about that. I know some people weren’t in love with Bayo 3, but not aware of drama (outside of Helena Taylor). Personally I love all three Bayonetta games. Bayo 3 was fantastic. So that’s not informing my lack of interest in Origins. 🙂
@@Ruleof2Review By "drama" i mean the collective baggage of discussion that sprang from this game's development ranging from Helena Taylor (as you yourself pointed out), to Hideki Kamiya banning people from his social media due to the following "controversy", to the overall negative reception the game got on release for all the people hyped to play as _Bayonetta_ and not an underdeveloped genderbent Nero 2.0 named Viola who was seemingly shoved into the game for no reason all the while mudding the narrative with her disjointed pressence. If you want to know in depth what i've talked about i suggest you see Foxcade's video analysis regarding Bayonetta 3's development to get a better understanding of the negative feedback which most definetly afftected Bayonetta Origins's low sales. 👍😉
TGA is a mess. I'm still pissed about how they shunned Xenoblade 3 last year. They want to rush the developers, yet gush out at celebrities and Kojima let them have the stage for more than 10 minutes? How is that fair?
Geoff Keighley and Hideo Kojima seriously just need to fuck each other and get it over with.
The way games were presented in such a rush yesterday I totally understand why Nintendo was absent
Your points made in the last video basically.
Nintendo wants to control their own presentation
Nintendo Directs also get more viewers at this point, are way cheaper, and being a shorter show with less games makes every game stand out more which means more sales for all of the games in a Direct.
if you only care about Nintendo and nobody else in gaming last nights game awards was a kick in the balls
Yeah it certainly felt like that being a Nintendo Fan.
Haha. I’m a fan of all gaming so there were things I enjoyed. But from a Nintendo perspective you’re totally right.
I play all 3 major consoles so i had an amazing time.
Pikmin winning was the highlight.
The Sega announcements were the highlight for me.
Nintendo not playing by the old rules is a boss move...any awards game show will become corrupt and tainted.
Is that supposed to be news to us? They haven't had a real presence with their own announcement other than the occasional 3rd party smash character at the Game Awards since I suppose 2017.
This is not a news video.
These kids never learn.
🤦♂️
Zelda Tears of the Kingdom got snubbed hard, shouldve gotten GotY and Sound Design.
Zelda didn't check off all of the woke boxes that Baldur's Gate did so it didn't impress Geoff and his council of soy. That's why even fucking Cyberpunk won more awards in 2023.
A nintendo game only won one game of the year award. Nintendo fans keep falling for the banana in the tailpipe every year and never learn anything.
I have to admit I wasn't expecting them to show up but then again I am disappointed.
Same, and I gotta admit all the CZcamsrs who kept making videos expecting something did not make it easier
@BlBallerBoy
That just made things worse.
I think it's February, not January because I checked back through the ND timeline, and the last time they did a full-on ND in January was in 2018. Others were minis or Game focus directs so I think it would be February because that happens more likely.
For sure. That’s part of what I was getting at in the video too. But I still think there’s a slight chance of January happening. Hopefully it’s sometime early in the year.
it can be january, february, march, or april and february is the most likely month, it is like 80% of directs were in february for the first direct of the year.
pokemon directs are always at the end of february for pokemon day, this is also the only pokemon direct really worth watching too since they usually announce their big holiday game at this time.
@@MasterStacona But it's most February or early March at the latest because of the shareholder's meeting. I doubt they will do ND after SHs meeting when they are shortage of Games compared to other years.
we've always had directs in february, june and september ofc
@@jackystarboi3152 Only September.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 was revealed at one of these shows if i remember correctly.
Nintendo shows their software and their consoles on nintendo directs something that they have full control of
Ignoring the awards aspect, the game awards has always been the worst format of revealing games. Compare it to directs, state of plays, e3, etc the game awards are just boring to watch. I get there's other elements to the show, but to see any trailer you have to sit through multiple speeches, tons of commercials, and usually a couple cringe sketches. It's the least interesting way of tuning into a reveal, and part of the reason i don't even bother watching TGA.
I didn't think I would say this, but the way The Game Awards have been for the past few years makes me miss E3
Maybe Nintendo didn't have as much control over how the presentations would be like in terms of length. I was not expecting anything from Nintendo and I think them bringing nothing was actually a good move because it made them look a little too cool for the game awards, which they are. They should be trying to appear that way, because even though some people watch the show, the perception of the game awards is that they're lame. The name is awful too, think of other successful award shows and tell me if they're named anything like that? The Emmys are not called the TV Awards the Oscars are not called the movie awards the Tonys are not called the stage performance Awards and the Grammys are not called The Music Awards lol. A Nobel Prize is not called a "Good Job, You Are Smart And/Or Very Influential Award". I remember Comedy Central had the Comedy Awards and that only lasted one year.
Gonna have no expectations till its switch 2 season
Really? I forgot the award show was going on then and didn’t watch because I didn’t expect much at all. Also haven’t heard of any amazing news like the years before. So apparently I didn’t miss much.
I think Nintendo is playing Chess not Checkers. It's a brilliant move by keeping it hush during the Awards Show. Having everyone in the industry wonder and talk... letting the hype build and the buzz buzzing! 💪🏾
I don't really like Geoff or his events, but I did get a few games announced out of it, so it wasn't for nothing. That said, I really didn't think Nintendo was going to show off anything, the next direct will probably set the stage for the coming year, and it is looking pretty likely will be the Switch's swan song, I don't think the Switch 2 will release next year, but I do think it will be announced, probably near the end.
i think they will do a september or october reveal trailer, make a january live presentation, and release the console in march.
Release either march 2025 or march 2026, same strategy either way.
New Star Fox game = death of a nintendo console... and it will be called "NEW* Star Fox"
2025 holiday switch 2
I think people need to consider the possibility that 2024 is another 2016.
I totally skip this show this year. I really did not care at all. Sounds like it was a horrible show. I think Nintendo is sitting on stuff to be announce in first direct in 2023. Probably the last direct before the reveal the switch 2 in the spring or summer 2023 for a holiday launch next year.
Nintendo typically didnt have many big things at the game awards a number of their reveals are Smash Bros.
Agree my Friend
They just going to do a normal big direct in February.
January is the most rare that directs happen, March and April are more likely, the most consistent direct is September.
0% chance for a new nintendo console in 2024.
50% chance for a september or october reveal trailer for a new console.
50/50 on 2025 or 2026 for a new nintendo console, this will match nintendo's 10 year plan for the Switch (2027 is the 10th year).
New console launch month is March.
I agree. Nintendo didn’t show anything because there is nothing to show. Their next gen console is still a ways off, as you alluded to.
Nintendo have there big direct every year. February, June and September.
I'm predicting 2026/2027 as i have for awhile now.
@@gavinrhodes7645 2027 might be a little late, but 2022 felt like a true half way point for the switch at the same time so nintendo might just do a proper full 10 years, because they gave the 3DS a full 10 years
taking their time here would be better because if the market is starved for a new console then they will eat up the next nintendo console and it gives nintendo time to make a proper console the way they want to make it and most importantly the brand new controller design
the controller being something unrecognizable new kind of tech that really creates some entirely new gameplay experiences
@@MasterStacona Thats fair.
Why should Nintendo give this award show any of their big announcements when it routinely snubbs their games as much as possible. The games from the other companies are literally a decade or more behind Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom in the use of technology to actually enhance gameplay. They made the most complicated technical feats ever attempted that should have caused countless crashes, glitches, etc. seem absolutely effortless.
The disrespect towards Aonuma is ridiculous.
And that was a suprise for you? 😂
Somebody commented before watching the video. 🤭
Waiting for Metroid prime 4 feels like waiting for GTA six I was going to get into the Metroid series, but I gave up the game took way too long to come out
Nintendo. Will never announce their major games or consoles at an awards show.
They do thier own directs now.
I don’t know why Nintendo fans don’t know this ?
Because nintendo fans and nintendo theme channel keep falling for the banana in the tailpipe every year and never learn anything. There all fools.
@@INFERNO95 Bingo.
I’m a huge Nintendo fan and I know how they roll
I don’t get people who don’t
And they hang on to stupid rumours and predictions
@@jonesygrets6029 I respect that.
People need to stop complaining about the Game Awards. It’s not gonna change - this is what Geoff wants it to be. The only thing that will actually bring change is if people stop attending and watching
Well all i can say to NINTENDO'S MARKETING TEAM is GOOD LUCK because they're going to have hell knocking on their doorsteps the coming year and no this isn't just going to be the Metroid front. Delaying all the planned remakes/remasters will cost them heavily, everyone grab a popcorn along with a soda beverage and watch the chaos..
Edit: my point is NOT about TGA, it's general concerns
Nintendo doesn’t need American Media to make sales and have there product loved from a award show.
Nintendo is and will remain the best at there craft on producing high quality games.
I'd say last night was more disappointing for Elden Ring fans. Most Nintendo fans know what to expect when it came to reveals now. Fromsoft fans was banking on Elden Ring dlc reveal.
Wb the rumors that metroid prime 4 is basically done, and has been for a while, they r just reworking some bad cutscenes? Any truth to this rumor u think?
Ehhh it's 50/50, I don't personally believe in it just because of the time it's going to take to reveal the other Remasters and the fact that God Of War Animation Director is working on the game. But then again, animations take a heck lot of time so who knows..
Safe to say it's a Switch 2 game at this point.
So I sort of watched the show today while driving between places for work, and I thought it was a fine show. There’s a few game announcements that look pretty cool, and in general just a bunch of gaming news that gives everybody something to talk about. People got their awards the industry got together and had a good time. I don’t understand how these things become negative. We all like to have new stuff that’s fun to talk about and I would think especially from the creators point of view it would be great.
No Elden Ring DLC and no Metroid Prime 4 ... 😮💨😫
Oh no. No DLC for Grind, Die Repeat?😱
For starters, the show is way too long. Make it Hour and a half tops, get rid of the cringe segments and, it would be much better.
Plus, I wasn't expecting anything from Nintendo, though a zelda remaster announcement wouldve been great
I’m thinking around Valentine’s Day we’ll probably start seeing news. There was no way Nintendo was going to announce new hardware before Christmas, that would just hurt sales for them.
We can speculate about Nintendos reasons for being absent, but advertising at TGA could be a way for Nintendo to reach a new demographic of gamers that don't watch Nintendo Directs.
Doug Bowser doesn't seem to have any interest in expanding the brand beyond the people that already tune in to Nintendo Directs. This is apparent from their recent removal from big events like E3 and Game Awards. I really think they need to bring big announcements and game reveals to multi platform events to show gamers of all ststems what they are missing out on from Nintendo.
Nintendo don't need to do anything like that. Nintendo have three major direct every year. Whoever don't watch it is not Nintendo problem. You can force people to watch or like something they never like to begin whit. Everyone know who Nintendo is if they don't like Nintendo that on them.
Great Video Rob.
There was afew things i was Half Expecting too see happen, the things i wasn't Expecting was, a Switch 2 Teaser Announcement and a Metroid Prime 4 Teaser Trailer but the things i Half Expecting was, Metroid Prime 2&3 and or Zelda: Twilight Princess/Windwaker Duo Pack Revealed and for some strange reason i thought maybe a Switch 2 Logo would have been Shown at the End of one of the Trailers, i.e the New Monster Hunter but Nintendo was a No-Show this Year.
The Best Reveal at the Game Awards so far for me, was the WiiU Zelda: Breath of the Wild World Premiere Reveal.
I agree that Nintendo doesn’t need to be involved heavily in the game award and that it would be nice if they were more involved. Especially considering E3 is basically dead.
Nintendo have there major direct every year. Grow up.
@@INFERNO95 dude you’re starting fights over nothing on a CZcams comment. You grow up.
my 2nd announcement wish was a major nintendo game reveal or tease on console...my first one was Monster Hunter 6, I'm be glad with what I got out of the announcements!
Time to wait for February
Most likely. Though I still think we **might** get a January surprise. Fingers crossed!
There is also a sense of too much of a good thing in terms of how much Nintendo news we may get at the start of next year.
The "game awards" is a joke. I can't even be bothered watching it anymore.
To be honest, most of the games shown off at the game awards were similar. Nintendo definitely does there own thing and thats why I like them.
There was a segment where I stepped away during a reveal, came back and thought they were still on the same game.
Overall, The Game Awards was freaking tragic.
It always is.
How so? I thought it was pretty good this year
@@alibabaschultz352It was trash.
@@Joseph-wh5of Any particular reason?
¿Is it worse than last year though?
Sega ftw!
Told you so.
Also, Game Awards is a complete joke.
We have these "game of the year winner" that will be forgotten BEFORE january 1st, let's have games with some kind of staying power... also, how does Fire Emblem not win best strategy as the only strategy game... they have goof balls that do not know how games work voting on these games.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder will spark an entirely new generation of gamers and game designers for decades to come, even Tears of the Kingdom would do this, these are the games worthy to be called game of the year. Though honestly, game developers can learn a lot from Fire Emblem Engage, but Fire Emblem is no where near popular enough to be considered which is another problem to the game awards, only popular games have a chance to be seen and sometimes a random indie game which in all honesty is mid at best most of the time.
Told “who” so?
@@Ruleof2Review That nintendo would have nothing at the game awards.
Yes I felt the same as well, as I documented in my prior video on Wednesday. So I’m guessing that by “who” you were referring to random people online who were fooling themselves into expecting something.
@@Ruleof2Review I am predicting February Direct, Metroid Prime 4 is the opener, Donkey Kong Country 30 NSO limited time bonus game in the middle, and end off with a brand new 3D Donkey Kong game...
though this probably makes more sense to showcase in the middle of the year direct for metroid and donkey kong.
They in their silent years again. I wonder why but very weird indeed
I learned to NEVER expect anything from the game awards. It’s bad pretty much every single year.
I feel the judges of the award are very questionable 🤔🤔🤔
I don't even care anymore even if they was to show something last night it just would've been the 57th mario game but still no starfox no f-zero no prime 4 or 3 or 2
Trying to guess Nintendo is a mugs game.
Title shoulda jus said it as it really is.
Nintendo knew they did not win goty so they did not come.
It was only about the community very very long ago till they saw they could make street fighter 2 like 7 times and milk the fans endlessly and then it was all about money, anti community..which is more prevelant today than ever.
They do not make new game series cuz the most summed up talk in that would be " will it make mario money?...no?, ok no we do not risk making a new game that doesnt promise Pokémon cash minimum"
Meh award show
I actually think Switch 2 being out would make them care much more about the Game Awards going forward. Think of the mainstream 3rd party titles that will be shown that will be coming to Switch 2 day and date with PS5/Xbox. Switch was really it's own thing. It's 3rd party titles often came well after initial release and were compromised for a mobile platform. This time around I really see that changing. If anything I expect more Nintendo in coming years at the Game Awards.
Your a fool if you believe that.
@@INFERNO95 yup
I enjoyed the show. Plenty for me to be happy about. Not worth getting upset over Nintendo not having more.
That’s a fair perspective. Glad you enjoyed what was there! There were some moments I also enjoyed (in between all the stuff I didn’t like).
Until you realize that fuck trash like Cyberpunk gets more awards than Tears of the Kingdom in 2023. I don't care if they fixed the game. They released it in a dumpster fire state expecting gamers to be stupid and just buy it anyway. They deserve nothing but the worst and so do the people that continue to support them. This is what is wrong with the game industry.
@@Ruleof2Review Fair.
Well there's still need for criticism about how the show is handled, not just for not having Nintendo announcements. The Winners are not given the fair amount of time in comparison to the guest hosts for each category.
Goty is boring tbh
Y are gamers like this. The show was good I only wish they were more impressive games. 2024 games looks lame
Man...no MP4 stuff for the last 6 years. Not even a screenshot. I really dont think the game even exists. So dissapointed! Would of been great...
This video is messy. Like I was expecting a reaction of a no show from Nintendo but I get him bitching on the awards. Nonsense.
Timestamps exist, bud. And it’s literally explained “before I jump into the Nintendo side of this topic” in the first 70 seconds.
Video isn’t messy. Helps to use your ears and your brain before engaging in internet comment sections.
Why would they show us anything they got screwed over 😂😂😂 wtf
My gorgeous Nintendo Gay Tuber
Ah ok didn’t know that but figured it was possible.
Awh you jealous 😂
