    This vid really opened my eyes. I was going to get a F25, but now i’m getting an F100. It just has way more balls and bottom end. I can dial more mids in to taste, but cannot dial in the lack of power and feel in the 25.

    I still bought the Fireball 25 because in case i need 100w i have an Invader. But tbh the Fireball 25 is so easy to control but still versatile and loud if needed, i'm amazed.

    Hi Max. I'm in Australia and I think I discovered your channel with a review on the Dr J Lancelot distortion. I've enjoyed how in depth you get even on that patch lead test, and your interview with Mike Soldano was very interesting. I got a couple funky cool pedals from a German guy, Joe Doc Music this week and my favourite instrument is my Sandberg bass (to show your countrymen some love).
    To comment on this video, my 20 watt marshall uses the same 2 "full size" el34s as a 40-50 watter. What I've read is the "cathode-biasing" (self adjusting) reduces the power somewhat along with lower voltages than a more powerful amp.
    Cheers for the vids.

    Hi, I'm Bobbie Hotard from Thibodaux, Louisiana USA. This video popped up on my feed and I was curious to watch it. I enjoyed it and subscribed to your channel. I use a block letter 5150 for my live sound with Marshall cabinets. I also own a modded Marshall JCM900 Dual Reverb head. I use an Engl Powerball in Amplitube for all of my home recordings. I've been considering getting an Engl for my live rig which is why I was interested in your video.

    I’ve got a 25, love it. At band practice, I’m turned up to 3.5-4 on the master volume, I use 2 4x12 cabs. It’s extremely loud. I can’t imagine how much louder the 100w Head would be. Should I also get the big brother because I love the Fireball 25 so much? I love how versatile it is.. I play doom metal to death metal, it does it all!

      the 100W will probably not even be that much louder but give you a wider frequency as you hear in the video, and most likely it's less compressed at the same volume. Depends if you want compressed mid-focus or not.

    • @crustophiles
      @crustophiles Před 2 lety +2

      @@ThornWithin Maybe. I've been playing a FB100 for about four years, two years with a band. Records great. Sits in the mix great, both live and in the can. Does bedroom volume amazingly well considering the wattage, and can blow doors off clubs when cranked. The 25's advantages are that it's cheaper and easier to carry. Beyond that, I'm not seeing the draw.

      @crustophiles Před 2 lety +1

      @@antonwilding9744 I played my FB100 in a Japanese apartment with rice-cracker walls for two years before getting a band together. You definitely need to be VERY delicate with the master volume and set the EQ differently than you would if you were going loud (hint: use more gain and, like, all the bass). But it sounded awesome and never let me down. Does it sound better cranked the eff up? Sure. It's a 100 watter. But it sounds wicked at a whisper, too.

    • @antonwilding9744

      @@crustophiles i might go with the 25 Watts then . I have the feeling its not good for the tubes playing them underpowered in long term ( 100 watts at living room level) . They need their comfort zone tough

    • @crustophiles
      @crustophiles Před 2 lety +2

      @@antonwilding9744 Actually, playing at low volume isn't bad for the tubes. If anything, they'll last longer. Also, the volume difference between 25 watts and 100 watts is 6db (i.e. not much). The real difference is how much clean headroom you have. Realistically, the 25 watt amp may do bedroom volume better (maybe, but not necessarily). However, if you ever try to jam or gig with it, you're going to be living with power tube distortion whether you like it or not, and can kiss your cleans goodbye altogether. Personally, for indoor playing, I'd get the 100 and a high quality power soak.

  • @diegosierracastro9670
    @diegosierracastro9670 Před 3 lety +7

    The power of the amps not only depends of the type of tubes... initially depend of the size of the transformer, that’s why a 2xEL34 or 2x6L6 can deliver 25, 30, 40 or 50 W with diferent transformers.

    • @martyzimmermann6742
      @martyzimmermann6742 Před 3 lety +2

      Well, the transformers are calculated for the respective use. The decisive factor is the size, but also the sheet material used. In the case of higher-quality sheet metal, the output transformer can be smaller, but still be designed for the same wattage. In the case of the Fireball 25, the 25 watts are achieved by reducing the anode voltage.

      Depends on what you want but i'd say when in doubt take the 100W for use with the band. I mean the 100W will always sound bigger, the 25W looks more like a fancy bedroom amp which will handle some jam sessions or rehearsal aswell if needed.
