Louis Vuitton Key Pouch - a huge disappointment? Is the LV Pochette Cles still worth it?

- There has been another huge price increase on the Louis Vuitton key pouch in canvas, which itself is already quite disappointing. Is the LV key pouch still worth it? My very first canvas Pochette Cles directly from Louis Vuitton was a huge disappointment, I still payed only 150 Euro for it (back in 2020), but yet still I was underwhelmed by the quality and craftsmanship of that Louis Vuitton key cles. The Louis Vuitton pochette cles used to cost 185 € and 270$ and now this exact same LV key pouch is at 230€ and 325 $. I want to share my experience with you, why I have been so disappointed when I first got that key charm pouch in monogram canvas from Louis Vuitton. Over time it really grew on me and became one of my favorite SLGs, because it is so versatile and functional. By now I do have a whole collection of LV key pouches (including the white Takashi Murakami one, about which I talk quite a lot in this video aswell).

Congratulations on 1000!!! 🥂 I enjoyed this video so much! One of my first LV pieces bought new was that same white multicolor pochette cles, and I kind of wish I still had it. It was just so cute, wish I had appreciated it more. The following year I bought the Groom pochette cles, which I still have. I'll admit, I didn't use that one much at all until the past year or so. It is really excellent quality, it's from 2006. Thicker canvas is the main difference. It was $170 (limited edition). My other one is one year old, damier azur, and while I like it, it's way way thinner, and I had to return it once because the checkerboard pattern on the first one was misaligned. I use mine as bag charms! Or for coins. Not for keys.
I love the Groom Pochette - wish I would have started to buy LV way earlier 😁 (ideally I would have bought 10 backups of everything back then and now could make a living of selling them on 😂)

I think what makes these so sought after is that they're so hard to get 🤭 I think if they were readily available, people wouldn't rave about them in the way you described because it wouldn't be as exciting. I completely agree that their canvas used to be so much thicker. Their quality used to be so much better in general!

I bought a pochette clés for my mum’s bday a couple of years ago and I don’t think she’s ever used it. Great PSA, Mary! I think setting one's expectations of luxury goods and houses is a key first step into the world of luxury. I started buying Louis Vuitton when the quality issues were already a thing and my first ever purchase, a Victorine wallet, started to have glazing issues within the first 2 weeks. I was so disappointed. Even if I had no older piece to compare it to, I really expected for the wallet to be great, to be durable, to impress! Well that brought any illusions I had about Louis Vuitton crashing down lol. Since then, I've been cautiously optimistic with every piece I get from the brand. I don't expect to fall in love at first sight, but instead, kinda slowly bond with my pieces like you did with this pouch. It works out, more or less.😊

I bought my first LV wallet preloved, it was called „Tresor“ and was a vintage one.. the sitches on one corner got loose and I was quite disappointed (eventhough I have no idea how long it had already been used, before I got it 😅 so probably it did not even hold up too bad for it‘s age 🙈)

You already made some money, by just holding on to it, until now 😁 - so I think not returning it, was the right choice and even if the piece itself isn’t the greatest quality, it at least holds it‘s value very well 😁

Congratulations on hitting 1k!!! Great video, Mary! I bought my first key pouch in 2005. I used to put my train pass and some coins in it and had it attached to the D ring in my Cabas Piano. At the time, it was around $100 US. I thought it was worth it then. I sold that one after I bought the DA and DE pouches, because it was starting to fade. This was in 2021, and the price was up to $280. Really, if I didn’t have the original one, I would have been underwhelmed by it for the price. I have heard lots of people say that theirs isn’t stitched well, the zipper has a gap, or the canvas doesn’t line up, so yes, the quality isn’t as good as it used to be. Yes, please show your collection! I’m eager to see what you have. Stay safe! I’m worried for my friends in Europe. 😢

It’s funny, I had your same reaction when I received my first LV piece in the mail, a mini pochette. I just stared at it silently, flipping it from front to back thinking, “THIS is what people are going crazy about?” Since then I’ve really grown attached to my LV pieces as they age, and I’ve gotten all 4 canvas key cles because I’m always in situations where I can’t have a purse and need something slim to be some kind of a wallet. I would have recommended the key cles more last year, but not at the current price.
Thank you for sharing Lexie! The Louis Vuitton canvas SLGs used to be great value for money (considering they are luxury designer pieces), but they got so popular, that the prices skyrocketed.. and to be honest, at the current retail prices, I think many of them are overhyped 🙈
I swear the people hyping it up are just trying to justify their pricy purchases to themselves, and those wear and tear videos complaining about the zip tarnishing as if it isn’t just normal metal, or showing the gap in it and the light passing through. I don’t get why two pieces of canvas sewn together with a zip on top should ever cost multiple hundreds - I’ve had great pieces from Coach that are full pebbled leather at a fraction of the LV canvas pieces and they’ve held up great for an EDC. It’s not like LV is the only brand on earth that can make a pouch.
I’d only take a pristine one if it cost me less than $50 as I know I can sell it for more lol. The resale value seems entirely borne out of the fact it was expensive to begin with.
@@User-cb4jm exactly ! LV prices are insane and indecent...two tiny pieces of canvas sewn together for 230€ !!! I'm a Michael Kors fan, the quality is much better, I bought the MK key pouch, very similar to the LV one, it's more roomy, with a beautiful lining and pockets inside, a leather piping, more functional and I only paid 68€ for it ! Yes, Coach is a very good alternative for LV too...But as long as people will pay 230€ for a key pouch, LV will still increase his prices...
Great video. Thank you, Mary. I've owned this keypouch since 2019 and to be honest I rarely use it. Still I like it. Whenever I see it in the drawer, it makes me smile and reminds me not to follow every hype on YT. This has already saved me an enormous amount of money and that's why the keypouch is worth every cent to me.
That‘s a great story 😁 and really worth the money in your case! And as a little bonus: if you ever would decide to sell it one day, you could easily get your money back and even something on top!

I bought mine in 2019 as a small wallet which also held my house key, I found it super convenient! But I don't like big wallets anyway. Now I have more keys so I use the 6 key holder but still use the key pouch for all my cards
I mainly use them as a wallet aswell, whenever I take only a small bag, that doesn’t hold my regular wallet. After the first „shock“ about the quality, I really fell in love with the functionality of the piece 😁 - no regrets that I bought them, but I wouldn’t add another one at the current price 🤭

I had never heard about scammers buying fakes and then returning them to the store. Does LV no longer recognize their own poor quality? If knockoffs are getting put into LV’s inventory they are really becoming careless and solely money driven. LV knows we customers will buy whatever they sell us even if it is fake.

Hi. I discovered your channel while I was doing "research" on the LV Key Pouch in Monogram Canvas and I stumbled upon this video. I enjoyed the fact that you told your story on how you were disappointed at first, but with the time you got to love it. This really helped me keep my expectations really low.
And 2 weeks ago I was really lucky enough to score one on the website. I kept checking the page every few hours until suddenly I could add one to my cart. And I was super excited. Then it arrived.
and boy was I disappointed on the extremely bad way it was done. The first thing I checked was the "overlap" of the symbols at the lower area and it was TERRIBLE, like really displaced, not some "invisible" 1mm, but almost 5 mm. Like a really bad fake. But on many pictures on the internet from people who have theirs on sale it was displaced. And then I was looking at it normally and on one side, the material was cut so bad, that everything was rotated. The monogram was not straight, at the place where the flowers meet the stitching to the zipper you could really see it was not straight. Super disappointed I immediately returned it. Really, for 230€ extremely poor quality. I bet there are fakes way better done.
I was then last week to score a preloved one in amazing condition at a very very decent price 180€. The lady who sold it had also sent the invoice. I was shocked. She hat bought it mind/end October 2020 for 155€!!! Since then an almost 50% price increase and quality absolutely terrible. I was really disgusted. I mean nobody likes price increases, but at least if it would really be to ensure the quality stays the same.... If I ever decide to buy another LV piece (the key pouch was my fist one) I will make sure to get an older one, from the era when LV really did have quality pieces.

I had purchased the Daisy Rose key pouch first to see if I would actually use it. I absolutely loved it so went for the LV (I’m an LV girl). I was SO disappointed. It was smaller than what I had and the stitching was horrible. Wanting to try one more time I exchanged it for another, same stitching issue. Returned it and never looked back. I’ve used my Daisy Rose every day for over two years now and it’s still perfect, and I still love it.

Hi Mary! "Key key" haha I had a "key key" and didn't love it at all. I sold mine and use a similar SLG that is a bit larger and fits my needs better. You made a great point the older pieces were so much nicer with thick canvas. I believe this could happen. I told you I sold my first cles, I do regret that because it was an older one and when I reordered a new one and immediately noticed the quality difference. I of course sent it back. I gave up on the key pouches. I kept getting horrible quality and returned them. I went with the 6 key holder in damier ebene and I love it! It has space for my DL and a CC. Grab and go!

At $425 now in Canada, I think these are at the point where the cost just doesn’t make sense at all for what it is.
The price increases really went crazy, to a point many pieces are not worth it anymore!

I bought mine in 2018 and the price was much better then now! The wear and tear is not the best, had to get the clasp replaced and the monogram pattern is fading, im debating about selling it and I wouldn't repurchase at these price points now! At first I was super happy with it but now not so much. Thanks for the video 💕

I found it for an incredible deal at the flewmarket sold by an older lady..everything I know about vintage Chanel jewelry matches, but I didn’t get it oficially authenticated yet, because I want to believe it is genuine ✨ (maybe one day I will, but if it then turns out it isn’t, I couldn’t fully enjoy it anymore, so I’m still hesitating 😅)
I just came from your key pouch spa video. I bought a LV key pouch in 2020 because I was just getting into luxury and many of the CZcamsrs that I was watching were talking about how great this piece was (just as you said). I didn’t love it when I got it: I keep my keys on a Coach key ring given to me by my late mother, so I have limited use for the key ring portion on this piece, and the key fob for my (older) car is too thick to fit inside the pouch without warping the pouch. So that leaves using this piece for cards and cash, and for that purpose, I prefer the Celine card pouch I bought around the same time because it is slightly taller and has 2 credit card slots inside. I don’t think I will ever get rid of this LV piece, but I barely use it.

It definitely was an influenced purchase as I had been hearing for YEARS how great and versitile piece it is and everyone NEEDS it. When I got it in my hands I was also a bit disappointed and confused. I can see strings of light through the stitching 🤣🤣 but yeah I started using it and now I can’t be without it 😅
Oh I have many of these successfull flee market stories 😁 the necklace I‘m wearing in that video might be vintage Chanel, I bought it for 20€ from an older lady 🤭 - I didn’t get it authenticated yet, cause I want to believe it‘s authentic and would be sad, if it turned out for sure it isn’t. Everything I know about vintage Chanel jewelry matches with that piece ✨ so maybe I really found a treasure!

Also had concern with the azur pattern wearing off the corners. Then they discontinued it and I was sad I sent it back. Now I've re-ordered in Damier Ebene. I was still unsure but now I have had it some months it has grown on me. I use it as a bag charm.

So viel schonmal vorne weg: generell finde ich das Epi Leder sehr wiederstanfsähig, pflegeleicht und habe auch bei hellen Farben keine großen Bedenken und selbst noch keinerlei Abfärben von dunkleren Teilen, wie Jeans, erlebt. Ich habe vor kurzem ein Video über die Louis Vuitton Buci Tasche gedreht, die ist auch in Epileder und ich hab darin ein bisschen von meinen bisherigen Erfahrungen mit Epi erzählt, vielleicht hilft das für einen ersten Eindruck schonmal weiter ☺️

I seen so many pieces not line up perfect and inconsistent, w so many being made around the world, I found amazing how they can even get them so close 🙆🏻♀️ But for me it’s a close enough as reference to authenticate from a fake.
It’s so true multi color is way thicker, even the hardware 😻 but color peels lol I love the canvas slg’s because of their long term durability, popularity for resale, and increasing value. The hardware sucks on it though 😂👏🏼 gold scratches so easily 🥴 Love your videos!!😻

If you take in they will let give you priority and exchange for another one, they’ll give you a credit. Or you can speak with a manager and email repair. That crooked stitching so unacceptable 🙄😏

I have two newer key pouches and like and use them, but I bought them for $235 and honestly do not think I would spend over $300 for them. They are good pieces but not that outstanding. I have a few vintage Epi ones I got fromThe RealReal for around $100 each, not in perfect condition but much better value imo. I also have a vintage canvas cle and while the quality is good, it is a LOT smaller. It is difficult to fit even cards inside, never mind a key! Love your channel, congrats on 1000 subscribers!
The Epi ones are great, I do have a black one aswell 🖤 - on the vintage cleys in the rectangular shape there are still good deals possible 💪 (couldn’t rule out, that I wouldn‘t add another vintage one, one day 😁 - but I‘m done with the canvas ones brandnew from LV, they are more than I‘m willing to pay now 😅)

It's funny because I had the same feeling as I received my Mini pochette in Monogram last May: disappointment. I was asking myself if it was worth the money. One side looked like the canvas has been cut bigger than the other side and both sides together looked a little weirdly "wavy". I returned the piece to the boutique and the SA was surprised about my explanation!!??? Now, it's too late to think these pieces are worth it. But, you're right: other brands canvas pieces are more expensive than the LV ones.
Sorry to hear about your unpleasant experience with the Mini Pochette! I think these LV SLGs got overhyped, because they used to be better quality and better priced (and a while ago, they still might have been „good value for money“). But once the crazy price increases happend on them, they‘re not really worth the value anymore 🤭 - but of course LV keeps raising the prices, when people keep spending above retail on the preloved market 🙈
So did I !!! I had the same experience as yours, I paid 550€ for this tiny mini pochette, couldn't believe having been so stupid when I received it and couldn't understand why everybody was so enthusiastic about this ridiculous tiny thing ! I returned it immediatly and bought the Michael Kors pouchette, a better alternative for the LV one, a bit larger, with inside pockets, more functional for only 125€...
I went in store here in the U.S. to get the key pouch yesterday, the first one handed to me I checked stitching and I could see almost the entire way through the bottom, I had her check for pouches with tighter stitching, after checking 5-6 pouches she found one I was happy with, that wasn’t the issue, her manager came up and tried to lie to me about why the stitching was so spaced out and how it was normal!! I was truly annoyed she was trying to lie to get me to buy a defective key pouch, I couldn’t believe it, but lucky for me I’ve done a lot of research to make sure I wanted the piece first so I was aware of the issue.

I just bought it AND immediately returned it. Mine was made in the USA AND as others have pointed out with the Made in USA Cleo, the inside bottom seam stitching is not tight. So sure enough I held it up to the light and it showed through from end to end. I happily returned it. Still glad I bought it because as it turns out my 2 keys and one key fob did not fit at all and I don’t need it for other small items as I have a mini pochette and card holder. So never again do I attempt to get a key clen
Mine is Made in Spain, and luckily no light going through the stiches (yet still, not the greatest quality overall 😁) - I‘m really surprised to read in the comments, how many people were disappointed aswell or realized it’s not working for them. I think everyone goes crazy for the key pouch simply because it's one of the most affordable ways to try luxury. I've own several over the years and currently own one in monogram but I only use them for bag charms because for me they're really not functional lol. I need to always have a handbag and full size wallet with when going out. There is no way I can fit everything I need in a tiny key pouch. I'm always amazed when I hear people say they just grab there keys, key pouch and go 😂. I wish my life was that simple.
I could never just go with a key pouch either, but they really help me to organize my stuff, when using a mini bag 😁 whenever an actual wallet doesn’t fit.

I've never been impressed by such a tiny slg and i guess i don't carry keys in my bag. I leave them in the car and in Adelaide with really hot summers, the pouch would probably melt..
I also can't get my head around having to open a pouch to get to my keys. Why take 2 hands to get to my keys when i could use one.
If i really wanted it, the price wouldn't bother me but I'm glad i don't want it.

It holds it‘s value very well 😏 but I do agree, I wouldn’t buy anymore at the recent price myself. I hardly use it for keys, but it‘s the perfect micro wallet to organize your stuff in a mini bag (where an actual wallet doesn’t fit - like in a mini pochette 😏).. I‘m not the biggest fan of „just cardholders“, cause I like to carry some cash and coins aswell.
Just watched Ash‘s video 🤯 the coincidence 🤯 - we‘ve never talked about it before and I hardly ever heard anyone else mention, beeing disappointed in that piece.
OMG!! I totally agree with you!! 😂 I bought it because I watched a lot of CZcamss and they all said “ it’s functional piece”, ok, I would then need to have it. After using for a month or two, ok it’s not functional at all for me hahaha. Lucky me I bought it in 2016, the price was still ok to buy.
You‘re super lucky, when you already bought it back in 2016 - even if it‘s not working for you 😅🙈. If you‘d sell it on, you definitely would get your money back 😁. So at least not too much of a pricey mistake in your case 😁👌

I enjoyed using them for a while, i told myself I was using Classic Pieces, but it ended up that they were on the shelf for over two years without any touching them, so I sold them without any regrets.

I always thought the same re Key Cles! Kind of like chai tea = tea tea lol. I got the key pouch recently, and TBH I don’t think it’s their best high quality product; def their most popular due to price point though. The Gucci ones cost more, but they seem higher quality and more complex - they have piping around the seam and the inside is actually fully lined in fabric. I thought about getting a Gucci one instead for those reasons, but tbh the price point stopped me 😅
I want to check out the Gucci one, next time I‘m close to a boutique.. but I totally agree, it‘s a crazy amount for a key pouch 😅 (and I already do own more of them, than I need 😅🙈)

I never took a closer look at the bumbag, because I already own a vintage LV fannypack, so I don’t know too much about that piece. I heard rumours, the bumbag is (or will be?) discontinued? If that is really the case, the resell-value will probably go up quite a bit, cause people right now still want to buy it, but maybe can’t anymore. In about a year from now, the hype might die down again. Maybe use it a little while to see if you love it - and if you don’t, you could consider to sell it ☺️

Which is unfortunate, I really wanted the mini pochette accessoire in another pattern but they were always sold out when I was first looking to get them. So I stuck with one. Glad I bought all three patterns for the Schlüsseletui on a whim when I saw them all pop up at once.

I actually wanted to have it because i have the 6 key case and the reverse monogram card holder, so i wanted to have it so i can have 3 but when i went to the lv boutique, they have it in the store but the canvas looked crooked and it was very small, I couldn’t fit anything. I looked for the Celine one, it was kinda big for a small key pouch. I went to the MCM and the pouches were the perfect size and the best thing is u can take the key ring off it

I have a similar key pouch that is such a perfect size so when I received my LV cles in the mail I thought it was so tiny. I was thinking it would be the same size. I was extremely disappointed and didn’t use it for months. It had popped up on the website in the middle of the night a year or so ago and I panic bought it. 😳 Have you ever panic bought luxury? 😂You are the first person to admit it wasn’t love at first sight. The style of the Murakami cles is really pretty. I think they made a mahina one like that, too. Being so flat I wonder how functional they are, though. I love the style of the classic canvas cles. I do find it very functional since it holds cards and has the clip to use as a bag charm. Definitely worth it to me even with the current price.
The flat vintage ones work well for keys or some cash, but I have to admit they aren’t as multi-purpose-functional as the newer ones are. Maybe I‘ll film a „what fits“-comparison one day ☺️

Unfortunately even the quality on their bags got poor 😅 - it‘s not that I just own LV key pouches. For example I had to return one of their empreinte leather bags twice, because the first one was missing a stud and the second one was completely crooked and asymmetrical 🤷🏼♀️. The quality at Louis Vuitton definitely isn’t anymore, what it used to be

This is 100% accurate. I wanted this slg for the longest time. I happened to be on the LV website when they had JUST restocked it and I immediately purchased it! When I received it (last week to be exact 😆) I wasn’t prepared for the underwhelmed feeling I felt immediately 🫤. I didn’t expect that, and was a bit sad lol. I didn’t even use it for the first week because I didn’t wanna deal with being so disappointed in an item that I had wanted for so long and spent that kind of money on. Thankfully I pulled it out this week and I have felt better about it and got that excited feeling I was looking for the first time! It really is more of a preference and if you’re willing to come to terms with spending that $ for what it is. I figured I had been wanting it for so long and with LV steadily increasing the price point on it might as well of snatched it when I did! I think it was a perfect Mother’s Day present to myself 😌😍
