Brent, during this hard time for you, you have been surprised and overwhelmed about how much support we all are giving you. This is the perfect example of why WE ALL SUPPORT YOU! You took it upon yourself to create an affordable system for us to be able to purchase and use because you saw the need for it and wanted to help us out. You have gone way above and beyond to put this together without it being for profit and a sales pitch. You are the best out there and we all want to see you back to normal as soon as possible. Wishing the best to you and Esther (and the dogs) Thank you for all you do!

As a professional cnc plasma cutting machine operator (retired), I recommend using the highest current setting for best operation at any thickness. Low current means you will have to cut with slower rate of travel for all thicknesses. best speed/cut quality will be found (on units such as yours) at the highest settings. Industrial machines are usually run at full current to maximize cutting speed and minimize slag.

At 19:30 the loss of cutting coinciding with the compressor kicking on is no coincidence. I had the same problem. My work around was to put a pressure regulator at the plasma cutter. Fill up the compressor and then turn it off so it can't kick on mid cut cycle. I watch the air regulator pressure at the plasma cutter. I take educated guesses as to how much I can cut before I need to hold cutting and pump up the compressor again. It's a procedural PITA but it solved the loss of cutting issue.

As someone who built their own laser cutter and used a half dozen different free and "included" software with various no-name components and controllers, Light Burn is absolutely worth the money. My subscription expired, but I can still use and install the last version I got; but I'm going to pay the $30 to re-up so that I can update. The big stand out is that LB runs so much faster and with none of the crashes that the cheap software had. There's also a ton of features that I haven't even gotten into and should. Sometimes paying for well-developed components or software saves you a fortune in frustration and lost time.

Brent. Nice setup for an el cheapo plasma cutter. The issue you are finding with the cnc control is most likely from the EMF that occurs when a high frequency start plasma cutter starts. I have been working on a plasma cutter as well and found that my controller would reset on me when the plasma starts. Looking it all up, I found that cnc machines (DIY and commercial) work WAY better with the low frequency non-touch starts. Unfortunately, that adds to the plasma cutter cost tho.
And all the best on the shop rebuild as that had to be absolutely gut wrenching.

Splutter, It happened with me too, the air compressor was my problem, the moment I changed the power cable to a receptacle that ran off a different breaker it fixed the problem. At my shed I had to run the air compressor off a generator. but what fixed it permanently was when I ran the Computer and the controller off a UPS that change the frequency of power to the minimal harmonic distortion, i.e electronics like clean electricity to "NOT BLOW UP" that is why it is bad to cut power to electronics without the proper shutdown. "After the electricity company cuts power to your house there is a good chance they blew up your laptop in doing so, that is why they warn you in advance of a power cut".

That is awesome! Something I had been thinking about. Its irritating watching people use really expensive plasma tables and knowing you could either never afford it or not use it enough to justify the purchase if you could afford one. But this is bad ass!

This was GREAT!! You sir are a genius!! You have so much knowledge and I suspect it is all self taught. It is rare that a person has the depth of know how that you possess but you utilize it well. Thanks for passing all of this on as well.

Digging this. I'm into hacking stuff for other uses. I might try this considering what it costs for a full on plasma table. You built one for what it costs to freight ship a pro built table. Honestly I wouldn't need anything bigger then 2x2. Thank you for your time and effort. Looking forward to more.

Just found your site. Very good. Nice to see a regular guy on CZcams. I am going to try out this plasma table. Thanks a lot for figuring it all out. I was a heavy duty mechanic for over 40 years. Now I'm done, but I still like to play.

I don't need a plasma cnc cutter but now I want one. You did a pretty good job explaining and showing what you did. Quite the task considering what you made. Very handy and cool to have.
