Billy, I couldn't stop thinking about this and had to come back and watch it again after a few days. This is the best sounding acoustic guitar recording method I've heard. This is so good. I mean, I'm a little fascinated with mid/side methods, but this is so much better. Now I have different mic combos going around in my head. Like a ribbon in the middle and SDCs on the sides. This is so much better, because folded down to mono you don't lose anything, and mid/side just nulls the sides. And the sound of this, the subtleties of the textures of the strings is so nice. For some reason I never would have thought of 3 mics because no one ever talks about it. I love it. I can't wait to use this on my next project. Thank you.

As far as I can tell, you're still pointing the center mic at the 14 fret?

It's hard to see the true mic position from the camera's angle. It always looks weird to me after I film it. The center mic is usually in front of where the neck meets the body and pointed towards the sound hole more or less.

Never occurred to me to move the waves in post to match the phase… do you do that with just two mics in AB?

I'll do that whenever I'm struggling to get the sound right. I just finished mixing a live album I had recorded where the singer was playing acoustic guitar and singing at the same time. There was something weird in the midrange of his vocals when I had the guitar mic and vocal mic on at the same time that I'd not caught while tracking./ I could see the wave forms from each were slightly off set so I moved the slid the guitar mic audio a tiny bit and it all sounded better. However, on a couple of songs aligning the waveforms made it sound worse the then better sound had the waveforms somewhat out of phase. This might have been because he was singing further off the mic, moved his chair, etc. No 2 situations are the same so in the end I'll go by how it sounds but I'm never afraid to try and move something.

Could have used good ol’ RX for these sliding noises.
