  • Optoma has been a market leader in both Cinema and Gaming projectors, as well as leading the field in the shift to affordable laser light source options. But until now these three things haven't ever been available all in the same projector. That changes with the UHZ50. Now offering ultra low latency 240Hz for gaming, but also the addition of an extra HDMI port offering Optoma's Puremotion technology to enhance the smoothness of motion in fast moving scenes which adds a game breaking 60ms of lag. Well now you can have the best of both, and all the benefits of the laser light source technology bringing better colours, brighter overall picture and lifetime longevity. All this at a price thats significantly lower than laser options of just 1 generation ago. Nikki takes a look at all the latest features...

    Thanks for the review :) Can you offer any feedback for the ‘ultra wide’ feature? Is this a digital ‘zoom’ to display a 21:9/32:9 image on a CinemaScope screen (ie 2.35:1)

      hi yes all 16:9 projectors will simply have black bars top and bottom. so you will lose resolution in these modes.

    when this model released ?
    because i wish to buy this or wait some months for newer model from optoma with hdmi 2.1 4k 120hz or more and VRR ,
    i heard dlp projector is best for motion , i am sensitive from motion blur ,
    i wish to know about motion blur and clean motion on this projector or others with best motion , dose hdmi input with clear motion effect input lag or reduce the brightness ?
    for me optoma is NO.1 for gaming and movies too,the price is amazing for the amazing picture quality ,

    This sounds like a great projector.
    My question is I love 3d but I noticed the projector has a separate 3d sync connection like when 3d projectors first came out.
    Is the 3d sync not built in?

    • @ScanComputers
      @ScanComputers  Před rokem +1

    30000 hours, but only in eco mode? But in the long run, can the light source be exhanged? I see this question have been asked by other too on Reddit, but no good answer yet.
    And does it work fine with a day or even two in one go? It is rare, but sometimes I do use a screen for over a day. And for other times, I guess it have sleep mode?
    But not at least, do 3D glasses follow, or do I have to buy them besides this so far awesome projector?

    • @ScanComputers
      @ScanComputers  Před rokem

      Hi. Theoretically you can replace the laser, although we expect the cost to mean you will likely just buy a new projector by the time it comes around. At 30,000 hours you could have it on for 10 hours per day, every day, for 10 years. Yes it would work continuously no problems to our knowledge. And you would need to buy 3D glasses to go with it, there arent any in the box. They are approximately £20 per per from popular sites. :)

    What is the boot up time on the UHZ50 projector compared to the UHD42?

    • @ScanComputers

      The UHZ is faster, but we didnt time it. Certainly when you switch sources or change the colour profiles though the UHZ is instant VS up to 8 seconds for the UHD42. - AS

    what would be the best screen for this projector grey or white? and gain?

    • @ScanComputers
      @ScanComputers  Před rokem +2

      screen colour & gain depends on your environment more than the projector. Generally grey screens are better in rooms with lighter coloured walls as they reflect less light and reduce it bouncing around the room. White screens provide the best overall experience when you have control of the light in your room and have darker coloured surroundings. So for most people with a normal light living room a grey screen is likely the better option.

    i had connected Nvidia shield pro but I was not happy with the picture quality m unless we run a plex server or heavy user we don't need Nvidia pro shield, then I shifted to fire cube which is a dedicated streaming purpose device, and the images are much clear and significant with fire cube , I won't recommend Nvidia shield pro if you are only using for watching movies.

    • @ScanComputers

    How much better than the uhd40 would you say this unit is? Not sure if it’s worth the upgrade

    • @ScanComputers
      @ScanComputers  Před rokem

      It definitely has significantly better colours and colour brightness. Plus the lower lag for gaming if thats something you do. But in reality unless you have them side by side you could easily wonder just how much better it is. the main thing here is the laser light source being brighter and lasting a lot longer. Black performance is better too, so if you notice grey significantly on your UHD 40 when it should be black then this would be better. - AS

    • @ScanComputers
      @ScanComputers  Před rokem +1

      Unfortunately we havent had the opportunity to test the Barco model so its impossible to say. Blacks are the weakness of DLP based projectors generally. This one is pretty good but just on blacks its about average compared to LCD or other formats. - AS

      @@ScanComputers thanks for the response. Probably going to be difficult these days, but if you ever get the chance to try out a Barco Cine 9 or a Sony G90, you're going to want to do that, for FHD it's going to be very difficult to beat even today. For UHD, maybe not so, but it'll certainly beat it in some ways.

    • @ScanComputers
      @ScanComputers  Před rokem

      This is a challenge with trying to film the two at the same time. If one is brighter then the camera overexposes and looks like this. In real life to the eye the UHZ50 is easily better all round. - AS

      The LG with 5k lumens is quite a bit more expensive and it's unclear how it would handle gaming. For most people 5k lumens will be too bright. Really that's only for a very bright room. Not saying it's no good though. Hopefully it's something scan can get hold of :)
