Paramount is a Dumpster Fire Right Now...

  • Paramount is for sale, but who is buying? Skydance seemed to nope out, but Sony might scoop it up. The CEO jumped ship, the stock is plummeting and Warren Buffett pulled all of Berkshire Hathaway's stake out of the ailing Hollywood legacy studio. I guess Star Trek wasn't enough to save it...

It has nothing to do with chasing IPs. it's about taking an IP and then pushing an ideological view that was never part of that IP.
Star Wars was golden, then KK pushed the force is female and killed an IP.
Star trek, doctor who Marvel. All pushed a female first men second ideological view, and each died.

@@headp3 Honestly, I think the problem with those pre streamwars buys were that the company buying them didn't really knew how to use those IPs. It still worked fine for a while with Marval since Perlmutter had a plan and Disney decided to keep following that, unlike what they did with Lucas Star wars plan. As soon as the plan ended with Endgame though, Disney had no idea what to do with the IP.
If you buy an IP and know what it's fans want, you can keep doing that and earn money. If you either don't know, or worse decides to ignore it things end badly.
A famous IP is worth it's money because it gives you a large fanbase. They screwed that up.
So I agree with you that buying the IPs could have been worthwhile if they were able to utilize the IP correctly. But I think most of those IPs would have been better off if they just left them and made something themselves instead.
The streaming wars is another problem even if it did help screwing over IPs like Star wars and Marvel even more. Creating tons of "exclusive" content for the streaming platforms devolved the IPs even further but they would have bombed eventually anyways.
The real problem though is that Hollywood have stopped trying to figure out what people want to actually watch. "The "you will watch this and enjoy it" attitude doesn't really work and they seem totally unable to figure that out even if they used to know that.

Star Trek wasn't enough to save Paramount? Folks, what Paramount did to Star Trek with the incredibly childish, agenda-laced disaster that was ST Discovery is one of the reasons WHY Paramount is going down the drain. This will continue with every production company that is infested with woke employees. As long as the writers, actors, producers and directors are still virtue-signaling and trying to enforce false diversity, feminism and other forms of social/political engineering, the ships will continue sinking. If Amazon wasn't propped up by it's near throttle-hold on shipping, it would have already sank from disasters such as the Rings of Power. Same for Disney. If not for their parks, they would have folded by now. Until production companies are willing to purge themselves of "slacktivists" that spend more time on social media than their actual jobs, they will continue to fail.

Damn right. Well said. I think that does a good job of summing it up. I will just add, "It is much easier to fool a man than convince them that they were fooled." The problem is the people, not the IP. They have to admit out loud finally, as a company (any company), that woke-ism is cancer and they were all tricked. They need to put the qualified people back in charge and fire anybody who is as an activist. The purpose of a company is to make money, it can't also be the place to push propaganda. The two are incompatible. All and I mean all of these CEO's that succumb to this should be fired and any Board of Directors of companies with this mentality should be sued and criminally prosecuted for a violation of their fiduciary duty to make money for their investors. It is fraud plain and simple. Same goes for government employees who just decide not to do their job the way it's intended. It's fraud. Enough people.

Actions continue to have consequences for Paramount after what Alex Kurtzman's STAR TREK universe did long term to the franchise as a whole.
Furthermore, with this inflation economy under Jim Crow Joe, people are choosing what type of entertainment they want or don't want.
Paramount, like most legacy media outlets and studios, forgot the Golden Rule: The customer is always right.
You might not like it, you might even resent a segment of your audience and customers, but their dollars keep you employed.
For the last 10 years, the studios of Tinseltown forgot that rule, and are acting illogical.
The best messaging is woven in so seamlessly that a viewer shouldn't know it's there.
The problem these days is that anyone can see the messaging coming a light year away.
And the more times this becomes an issue the more people put a permanent personal boycott to never ever pay their money to see whatever is being produced by these studios.
Paramount's current predicament is self-inflicted and chronic.

Had they not renewed his contract and got rid of him when they had the opportunity and returned Star Trek to its original values they would have had at least one successful IP on their books. Instead business (and common )sense took a back seat to activism and they're now paying the price for that decision.

They are leaning away from Skydance because it would only benedfit one person. Sony can't talk, or anybody for that matter, right now because of the Skydance deal but Sony might have trouble with the FCC getting the deal done because of antitrust issues and it could take a couple of years if Sony did.

The sad irony is that these IP’s were the most profitable when they churned out the least content. Movies and tv shows are expensive to produce. Merchandise, toys, games, apparel, repackaged physical media by comparison are far less expensive and less risky. But since the 2010’s the movies and tv shows have increased in quantity and decreased in quality, even damaging their lucrative merchandise revenue streams. And their answer seems to be more content on streaming and buying positive reviews and paying journos to run defense.
