- I was tipped by a viewer about this $17 CPU cooler... so let's see if its any good! DON'T wait to get one, the brand WILL raise the price after this video brings attention to it... it is NOT worth more than $25 or so. amzn.to/3T1y939

A video like this isn't for immediate views. A video like this is for who needs it, when they need it. This type of video builds trust and confidence in your content. Someone who this video helps is sure to keep an eye on your content in the future.
And now I am that person. I'm building a new PC (partially, GPU and storage is already in) so I'm VERY thankful for this video about CPU coolers.
I looked at this and there were two one-star reviews complaining about this cooler. One complained that "the screws are tooo big and will not fit in the bracket correctly". The second one was complaining that the unit was "Fan to big for my case low quality"
This makes me wonder if these one-star reviewers actually read the information on this cooler.
Nice review Jay.
This is often offset by 5-star reviews along the lines of "arrived next day, haven't tried the product yet."
Amazon needs to have a way of weeding out the reviews from people complaining about shipping time, damage from the shipping company, whether their cat peed on it, etc. You can leave seller reviews in a separate area already, I'm here to read about the product.
Every build is different and sometimes I can't even use the original screws that come with an air cooler.
@@406Steven
AMAZON intentionally doesn't fix their platform. If you start doing research on this topic you find out it's to their financial benefit. For example, if people buy the wrong product you'll still pay Amazon then turn around and buy the correct one. Plus, Amazon has a Monopolgy and no incentive to do ANYTHING that doesn't help their bottom line.
I'd imagine a lot of people buying a cheap, off-brand CPU cooler would likely be building their own PC for the first or second time. They probably had other compatibility issues causing them problems rather than just "the screws". A lot of people don't read the information booklets on products either...It's too bad that decent, cheap stuff slips by because of this.
I can't forget when the Cooler Master Hyper 212 was $20 and that was mid-range cooler.
It was great when it came out years ago, I'm amazed that it's still a viable cooler.
I paid about $35 for one back in October, after tax. In this market, I think I got a fantastic deal, especially considering the included RGB fan.
@@MadmanLink I upgraded my PC three times since I bought it and I'm still using it.
That was 20+ years ago, I remember .
It's freakin' $58 on Amazon Canada. Making its competition look great.
I just posted the same thing. I didn't see your comment. Lol. Canadian money is a joke! Lol
That's right! I'm still happy with my Thermalright PA120 I got for 40CAD
And I could see no mention of the thermal paste in the Canadian price ?
Can buy a Hyper 212 for less money
It's not the value exchange. They just marked it up. Canadian dollar should still match to 70 cents USD@@marcstewart2328
Can anything really be better than the Peerless Assassin 120? It's freaking $35 for a dual tower cooler, like, that's awesome. Assuming you're not super insanely limited in budget, at least.
Phantom Spirit EVO 🙂
phantom spirit 120/se
Peerless assassin's beast bro
I paid 25 bucks for a double tower cooler with 6 copper pipes brand new. I love the thing and it runs great
The Arctic Freezer 34 eSports Duo is really close. Two very quite fans and incredibly good cooling for 40-45$.
In Germany, the cooler costs 29€ or 31,48$. No point in buying because it´s too expensive. Thermalright Assassin X 120 is under 20€.
The Thermalright Assassin X 120 is only $17.49 which is a little more than this one in the US. Cooling is not exactly the best either as it only have 4 heat pipes and no rgb fan. I brought the Vetroo V5 CPU cooler 3 years ago for $25 which has RGB and 5 heat pipes. The Ventroo is still the same price.
@@pugster73 Lol, you kinda mentioned the lack of an RGB fan as a negative, but i am pretty sure most of the best performing air tower coolers come with no RGB fans, so don't think it was necessary to mention that. Besides, that's a $17 product, very cheap for a cooler.
Super budget builds will not have motherboards with giant vrm heatsinks.
True
yeah h/b intels and a/b amds will have plenty of space for this little stack
Wait....so the $749 ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 Formula motherboard shouldn't be compared to being budget friendly? Well beat me with an old Timberland boot and call me Dr. Marten!
Under-rated comment regarding this particular cooler's target market.
Which will actually helo the performance of the cooler even more
Jay, thanks for the heads up on this. Bought the cooler after watching this video and am very happy with the purchase. Very easy to install and I can confirm that it reduced cpu temps by close to 10 degrees over the stock cooler. I've been watching your videos for several years. Keep up the great work!
You can also get the ID-Cooling SE-214-XT or the Thermalright Assassin X R SE, for some slightly more well-known options at the same price, but honestly this one seems pretty great, and I like the thought of discovering new brands worth the money to break into the market and get some proper recognition. So, good on you for trying a mostly unheard-of option. It really helps shake up the market and raise competition, I believe. Like, I truly believe the Vetroo V5 video sent shockwaves and either helped bring prices down, or at least raised interest in solid really good coolers for cheap. So, thank you for your service in that regard!!! Best to you and the team.
If you're bored then I'd love to see the test you mentioned a few videos ago of trying out intake only vs output only, vs mixed radiator configurations. So much time is spent hand-wringing and arguing these things it would be interesting to quantify how big of an impact it has.
Love air coolers. Keep up the great videos buddy
This cooler is currently £19, with free delivery, on Amazon UK (as a US import), which is $24. Maybe there is a price premium to cover shipping to UK.
Pluss import tax and duties ..
29.99€ in Germany, which is $32,5 USD. A Pure Rock 2 is 35€ (German Brand..)
@@MatherofactsLooks like you are dealing with a reseller in Canada where as in the USA we are buying from DARKROCK.
VAT which is included in advertised price, America don't do that as their VAT system is `sales tax` which varies from state to state and not included in the advertised price. Why often have people in some states order/buy in adjacent states as sales tax lower.
@@PaulGrayUK Kind of. It's actually quite logical.
VAT is a tax on adding value. Of course you include it in the price, this is so you can pass the tax on, and the end user pays for product + value added tax at each step.
Sales tax is the state or municipality taxing the sale to an end-user. They only care if the item is capable of making a taxable transaction(notably non-ready to eat food products aren't taxable) and the amount of the transaction.
TL;DR: VAT taxes the item itself. Sales tax taxes the sale.
Been using this cooler for all my budget PC builds, its such a great value!
Yo Jay! At 9:27 You show the fan hits right here. First thing I thought of was snip off the unused screw mount fin on the bottom for MB clearance. Then you would fully cover the radiator. Then at 15:50 Your Flir picture shows the fan not being move down all the way so the thereby leaving an "uncovered" hot spot. Then you say that that the bottom of the cooler is the hardest working part of the radiator fins. I would also like to have seen dual fans, and maybe a 3D printed shroud. Bet it would bring down the temps way more at full load. Keep on truckin'....
Thanks for the heads up!
Thanks. Just purchased one for my GF's matx rig currently running a stock cooler on a 12100F. The stock cooler does well but I'll be bumping her up to a 14th gen i5 65w tdp part and this looks perfect. $17 after tax and free shipping via prime in the US.
65W 14 gen? What 14 gen run at 65 watts?
Just ordered one for my spare parts build I'm doing for a friend. perfect timing on this video!
Appreciate everything you and your team do for the community. Wish you the best of luck with your health and hope to get a chance to meet you someday! Your team and family are in my families prayers.
Was just looking at this wasn't expecting a video from Jay on it.
Looking forward to videos on all that random stuff you found. Maybe in the future you could record yourself doing the shopping for those things, would love to see your initial reactions/impressions as you're browsing and what pushes you to buy one thing over others.
Ty sir as, always very informative.
For a buck more you can get a ID Cooling 214 in black or white with a RGB fan.
Thermalright laughs at all coolers in >$50 price point
Perhaps. The rest of us laugh at all the failed thermalright fans out there.
I m a fan of your channel and follow you guys for over a year now. I watched all your videos since then and you, together with @GamersNexus, helped me in deciding with components to choose for my last build. However , i am kind of disappointed to see that nobody even mentiona the MSI MEG CORELIQUID S360 . I have decided for my last build wich was early 2023 for this AIO and i must say for a 13600K it may even be overkill with max OC(max OC that the silicone alows). I keep asking myself why is it that nobody even mentions this AIO, much less review it 😞.
Greetings from Germany and keep up the good work 👍👍👍
Thanks for the video as I needed a cooler for a build. Amazon said I saved $10 on shipping with Prime for what it's worth.
Thanks for the Vetroo V5 CPU Air Cooler recomenndation and just a heads up they have an AIO that is great too. Really love these videos about components that will work but not break the bank!
I actually have one of those exact coolers, I was also kinda shocked about how well it worked.
I checked here in canada and its $57.98!! And it also takes a week for delivery. I can get the peerless assassin 120 for cheaper.
Jay forgot he raised the fan a bit so that also hurt the airflow in the bottom part of the heater.
I've never seen you build a horizontal-form-factor PC which they used to call home-theatre PCs. I use one myself and I think it's a superior layout if you have a rack or shelving next to your desk.
The benefits are easy access and less noise as hot air goes straight out the top.
The price to performance of some of recent coolers from China and surrounding area has been really good, bought the Phantom Spirit SE from Thermalright for around £28 a few months back, which is kinda crazy for a dual tower, dual fan, 7 heatpipe cooler. These budget brands are really putting pressure on the established and more expensive brands.
I baught that cooler a few weeks ago for about the same price keeps my cpu really cool. Thanks j for the cool content you make
For a couple of weeks last month, that cooler was only $14.99!
3 months ago it was 19.99 according to reddit.(14.99 with $5 discount for prime users)
@@tr4l1975 I was looking at my Honey price tracker. In any case, it'll probably be $30 - $35 in a week or two.
Thanks Jay! Just ordered a DARKROCK PX4 and a beQuiet! 2100rpm Silent Wings 3 fan (I don't trust cheap fans on ANY cooler, especially when they sell for $3 ea / 3 pk.) for the back up system I'm gathering parts for.
While I run Silent Wings 4 pro I. My current rig, there are cheap fans that are both good and reliable. Arctic will perform close to a Silent Wings 4 and do it very reliable. Are there other cheap fans I would not trust? Yes. And there are expensive RGB and LCD fans I would not trust either. But Arctic definitely makes a high quality product which can in fact compete with BeQuiet!
Love you Jay hope you're all good
Hey Jay been watching all your video's the past couple weeks and would like to thank you cause now I relize they stuck RGB on my pc and sold it as a gaming PC lol. I will build my next pc myself.
Thanks for pointing that out about Cinebench, I see way too many people freaking out over Cinebench temps and immediately start undervolting or looking at improved cooling. I always ask them how hot does your CPU get with things you actually do?
what did he point out
That Cinebench produces unrealistic loads for anything your computer will actually be doing. @@sobrietyisrad33
Not only that. Many programs now supports GPU hardware acceleration such as Premiere, Resolve and Handbrake. And gaming just don’t push CPU’s that hard.
@@sobrietyisrad33
That CB runs your rig hotter than just about any normal task will, especially if you run high end CPU’s. Now if thou run an I5 or I3, then it gets more relevant, as those will be pushed to their limit with some programs.
as of writing the price hasn't gone up, but in Canada this is listed at 58$!!! I could order it from the US, and still with international shipping it would come out cheaper
This would look and fit great in my Xtia XProto
I have a similar cooler on my AMD 7800X3D. Only difference is i have push/pull fans installed. Hard to get my CPU temp over 75C. I'll never use liquid cool. Too prone to leaking.
Using one in my sons PC (i5-8600) and it's a good one for the price, although you can get that cheap Thermalright Assassin for about the same price and has RGB
A fairly shocking result. Thank you for testing.
I have this cooler on two rigs, works great
Looks like an old CoolerMaster I have on my oldest 2500K computer. ( not black though ) Same amount, and positioning, of copper heat pipes. Cooler Fins are the same size as the 120mm fan, not smaller.
Thermalright BA120
21.90 on amazon 6 heat pipes.
As some have said, this does remind me of the Hyper 212 Evo. I still have mine for my AM3 board and FX-8150 (eventually I'll use that as a NAS box with my older case, but that's a ways off). I added a second fan to the 212 as that can help with airflow. If I grabbed this cooler you're looking at, I'd still add a second fan.
Got and installed. It' SUPER quiet and runs cooler than the stock cooler. The rather low quality of the lapping reminds me of coolers from the early 2000's. But it does the job and for just $17 and change. This is the first tower cooler I have used since my old Core 2 quad and that thing was a BEAST compare to this.
I bought one of these a couple of months ago, when I saw the title for the video, I had a good feeling. That's what it was about. It's a great cooler. It works fine for me, I did replace the fan with a be quiet silent wings 2. But besides that, its a rocking. No problem. I just wanted to replace the fan For looks more than anything else. The fan that was on there was working fine. I'm just a snob like that.
I was watching a Disney Cruise Vlog that had been recorded in early February. I was surprised to see Jay sitting on the stage for Match Your Mate (Don't worry, none of your answers were shown). I hope you guys had a great time!
Hey Jay, could you recommend some AIO water coolers that you believe to be very well built? I’m skeptical to get my first one, seeing comments of noise, failure, and In efficiency
You can tell someone has been playing at 4k for too long when he thinks that 1080p looks terrible.
the Vetroo cooler turned out to be pretty awesome.
Hi Jay. Finally, a JayzTwoCents reviewed PC component my wife won't get mad at me for buying.
I have a cute little Antec tower cooler for my i7-2600. I took it off and tried to jerry-rig the cooler to go on an AMD board. Failed, but i barely touched the other chip with the existing paste, so I just squashed it right back on the 2600. Max temp is still only 61 when compiling dolphin-emu :)
Paste isn’t all that finicky as long as you don’t do anything too stupid with it. Just keep with one paste for everything and you don’t have to really worry.
Have you seen the new EK-Quantum InWin 977EK PC chassis? Looks like it could be a good option for watercooled builds
getting this cooler for PC build I'm doing for a family member. Matching it with a 3200g and 1660 super so need for insane cooling won't be crazy
Great find and Amazon UK have it for £19.36
When I do my thermal paste I spread mine too. I use the Artic Silver MX4 paste using my Corsair Hydro Series H150i PRO RGB 360mm Performance Liquid CPU Cooler from 2018 on my 5800X3D Ambient temps 22 degrees c while web surfing getting 39 Degrees c, My 360 AIO is exhausting heat rather than bringing air in from the front...mines facing top exhaust using bequiet silent wings 3 fans where the front fans using silent wings 2 same with back exhaust. My case is the BeQuiet silent base 802.
Jay's OC just kicked in when he started fiddling in the BIOS so the 17 dollar cooler can be used for normal scenarios ... and it was a GOOD ONE !
something i found that was pretty neat for a more space constrained system was a 92mm tower cooler. i think noctua has one but the one i found really was just bargain basement stuff. kept a 95w cpu cool despite the fact that i ran that poor old cpu at full bore for literal months on end.
Ordered getting it in tomorrow, I hope. :)
i hope those mini-pcs are n95/n100. bought one for ~$120. it's more than enough for office tasks
As of 3/4/24 at 1:42pm, it is still $16.59. Fun video!
Jay could we get a video on how to improve latency like hardware and network if you got any tips
I just put it on my last build I sold. I couldn't get the CPU temps above 70C on an all core load. I had a 5600X in that and it works great! Great little budget option
Hmm, this actually makes me think about interesting test for video you could do. How does placement of the fan affect performance? Like if you place fan really high or very very low. Probably need mother board with low vram heatsinks, but it might be interesting one to test with one or two suitable coolers.
In the UK atleast, items are usually free shipping even without prime and under £25, if delivered to an Amazon locker. Usually only take a couple days to arrive aswell
there are a few coolers with same build, different names. I got one just like this before the video for a r5 5600 to replace the stock cooler and it dropped my temps by almost 20 degrees in some situations. perfect upgrade for stock coolers and to include in builds you resell. there is a rgb version for only a few dollars more.
In € (Euro's) it's actually near 16. That is a good price, only just not available in the Netherlands via Germany or so. Shipping costs about the same, which is a shame. Would've loved to try it!
Mine just arrived. Going from the stock amd cooler I was using to this dropped my idle temps by 20C and my load temps by 15C. Surprisingly still $17 on amazon.
Nice! Ended up buying two.
just bought it. getting it tomorrow. sounds like it will work great with my AMD ryzen 7 2700x.
Looks like a Thermalright Assassin X120SE, which is also ~$17. As long as you're not trying to beat your machine to death, you can't go wrong with it. Gamer's Nexus already gave it a nod of approval.
Based on your review, I bought the Vetroo V5 for my PC build last year and for being under $30, I haven't seen anything to tell me it was a bad purchase!
Using that cooler with an LGA1700 contact frame would be a nice experiment.
I’ve been very happy with the Vetroo V5. It’s just cooling an 11400 boosting to like 115 watts. I don’t get over 71 in game.
I was impressed with Thermalright's $17 cooler and the paste I got with it (TF4), which saw an overclocked 2600 running at 50.8C under prolonged stress testing with CPU power draw at 115W. I think when the GPU (RX6600) was also running a stress test and pulling like 170W with the power limit set to 120%, the CPU only ran a couple of degrees warmer. Of course, fan speeds were higher all around but noise level wasn't excessive GPU temps were nice; I put some HT-N1 on that recently.
I also have been impressed with Thermalright's 3 for $15 ARGB fans. They even have white ones, for just a dollar or two more or you can get non-RGB black ones for a couple bucks less. I compared to a Lian Li set that sells for like $70 for 3 and the cheap fans had better performance specs. Not by much but they were technically quieter and moved more air at the same speed. They even have FDBs. It has me wondering why I would pay $15 for one Noctua Redux fan because those aren't significantly better performing and I can get temps I like with the cheap fans. I don't expect the cheap fans to last as long but I'm sure they'll at least last a few years.
I have a Neptwin from DeepCool that I have been using since my 4790K. Now on a 9900K. Three 120's and Cinebench only gets the CPU to 74-75.
Well for euro market Endorfy has budget kings air coolers "Fera 5" and "Fortis 5", but they are barely available outside.
Can you cover pumps. types and D5? DDC? DC? PWM?
I use this cooler in my build no complaints!
That's what the thermal paste I had been using looked like... it was a PITA to remove when I finally splurged for KPx, but it was definitely worth it... my idle temps on my 5900X are in the 30s, with that old gray goop it was like 40-45C...
Jay the gaming socks are for tablets and mobile phone aka touch screen gaming. And yes they do help with responsive touch for Someone like myself with rough dry Calais hands or fingers
I always use the dark rock px4 in all my builds. Looks great, is dead silent, always cheap, and I’ve never had a cpu go over 45C (sits 35C or under in gaming). Good find Jay, but I’m sad my secret weapon is now out of the bag.
wish I saw this a few months ago, gotta stay on ur channel :)
Ive got a cooler thats identicle. Has worked great on my Ryzen 5 3600 for over a year.
There's a few thermalright options around the same price that have been rocking the air cooler market for the past year or so and havent moved in price despite reviews such as steve's from GN
Thermalright assassin spirit 120 is $16.99, assassin X120SE is $17.59, assassin spirit 120 v2 (dual fan) is $20, and there's multiple "peerless assassin" and variant (dual tower, dual fan) around $30-35 that perform on par with the NH-D15 if not better.
Also check ID-Cooling SE-214-XT D if you live in europe because it costs under 20 euros and it has 4 heatpipes and 2 120mm fans
It's always about $18 in the US. The Assassin X is also about the same price.
I've been pretty impressed with ID-Cooling. I have their frostflow running on my 13600k and simply removing the bulk of the air cooler helped cool everything, include the graphics card down. My BIL has the exact cooler you mentioned running on his 12400, I think.
@@jenrosejenrose7417 ID cooling is amazing in europe, as all other stuff from somewhat known brands is just more expensive for same or even less performance.
Current price in Germany is 29.00€ around 31.50 US$
It's still $16.59 at Amazon. In the $35 range, I can personally recommend the Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE. It comes with two fans.
yea, I'm currently using a Enermax ETS-F40 A-RGB CPU Air Cooler White - 140mm PWM Fan on my Asrock b550m with a Rysen 5 5600X and it works just fine for me and is pretty quiet as well
Double fan
Thermalright Assassin Spirit 120 V2 Plus @ $21 on Amazon right now!
I keep 2 air coolers on the handy at all times. I have a Hyper212 and I also got the V5 you did just to try it out. You never know when your AIO is going to take a shit on you
It actually looks like all big air coolers. Agiant block with a fan on one side or both.
in Australia this cooler cost AUD 42.88, what a bargain, just wow, even after currency exchange ( USD16--> AUD25) is already double the price.
Frigidaire?
Now that's a brand i haven't heard in a long time. Last time I saw one of their fridges was in my great-grandparents' kitchen (it still worked) 20 years ago.
congrats on 4 million subs
What.... no LGA 1366? You're killing me smalls!
just used this on a build last week. Not bad at ALL for the price but the fan does mount kinda funky because of the shape of the fins but not noticeable at all really
Very Cool, Thanks. This is the kind of reviews alot of your viewers need
