Hi Everyone and Welcome Back to My Bucolic Life Channel. Meet my new sewing project.
This dress was inspired by the fun fabric from African Prints Overload. It has a fall vibe to it and I think that the yoked pattern shows it off well. I did have to go off script from the instructions a few times. Once to fix a problem in the neckline opening, and later to construct the sleeves in an easier way. (At least to me) I didn't have enough fabric to make the sash so a belt will do the trick. Hope you like it!

What a complicated pattern for a relatively straightforward style!
I often find that to be the case on many newer patterns. I’m an oldie and think maybe the pattern designers have not done much studying of traditional pattern cutters.
You often change your sewing journey to suit the style, rather than just following the instructions. Well done.

I’ve just about watched all your videos. Such great tutorials. One take away that I do now is when I’m marking circles, etc. on my fabric I actually think about why they are there and how important they are to the construction.
These details give me the big picture in my mind and sewing just seems easier now. Thank you! 😁

I appreciate you sew a long. There aren’t always tutorials to see the steps. The pattern can be a bit confusing at times for the average seamstress/not quite advanced. And those that do exists don’t always have enough of the view you want or need to see. Thanks. I’m about to finish my dress this evening.

Nice fabric and perfect for fall. The dress is simple enough for a fairly quick sew and yet the variation on the basic peasant style gives it a more complex look. For a person who likes empire waisted dresses one could put belt loops at the level wanted and use the tie or a light weight belt to get that effect and yet be able to wear it loose as well. Another success!

How fabulous to find a new and helpful sewing tool! 🎊 I’ve seen those advertised and wondered how well they’d work.
I’m a fan of this fabric for fall and the movement of the dress accentuates the floral elements-or vice versa? 😊 Anyway, they work well together. If you wanted to change up the look, you could just use a different colored belt & shoes. Without an attached belt, it’s also easier to layer up beneath the dress for winter weather. 😉 Thanks for sharing your methods. 🎉
