Coming back to this to say -- I remember seeing this band live when the art-rock band Bent Knee was opening for them, and Bent Knee has an _incredible_ singer in the form of Courtney Swain. Probably one of the absolute best in the world.
"Catch Light (Live at Big Nice Studio)" would be a great introduction to them, if you're interested.

Every time I hear this song, I hear Whitney Houston's Unbreak my heart... 🤣! Still an epic track though and loved your reaction. Having recently seen leprous live near Detroit, I highly recommend a live show! I was awestruck, not only by Einars vocals but the entire band is so incredibly tight... And yeah watching Baard play drums live is an experience on its own!

I don't know much Sleep Token, but I've taught Blood Sport before so I know that one pretty well. Great song!
He does seem out of breath at first, and just looks somewhat worn out, must be late in the show. Impressive that he still manages to pump out good performance.

if you enjoy einar's singing, I must recommend Agent Fresco to you. they're an icelandic band and are often called the "happy" Leprous. Their vocalist, Arnor Dan Arnarson, has an outright angelic voice and he knows how to use it. they have a great live set on youtube on the channel "KEXP" or just follow the link I'm going to attach to this. they have timestamps for each song, so you can make seperate videos for each of them.

Seeing Leprous live is a religious experience. And this is coming from a dedicated atheist.

Abso-f-ing-lutely correct. Distilled emotion in progress.
This is prog. It is supposed to be nothing happening while the wildest stuff ever is taking place continuously.
This is also Leprous. The lead vocalist, Einar, has battled depression for decades. This is what male depression sounds like. I am going to be slightly "gender'ish now - do not take it too seriously). But a typical trope is that women can "talk through issues" while males experience such issues more like a scream of desperation.
I dropped down into that rabbit hole of depressive emotions a decade ago and it was impossible to talk to my very masterful of verbal communication - like myself who normally is also pretty good at finding words inside the state of depression.
So I will talk about gender and psychology and music. ADHD was continuously mishandled in girls for decades - because it was diagnosed in young restless boys. Depression was also diagnosed erroneously on boys - because boys being depressed can look more like ADHD boys than "that sad girl that could not stop crying" - defining "depression".
Leprous is a home for very emotional people who will be supportive and will go to work and will pay the bills while wearing black jeans and look rock and roll. We do not need the words to be spoken - because there are not always words to be found. A lot of times it is just dissonance, best described by chord progressions or very off-beat ways to resolve odd rhythmics (like 7 over 8) or solving polyrhythms (like 4 over 4 resolving itself over 12 over 8. Unrest is being built into the structure of the composition.
I am not saying that everyone who listens to prog has a mental issue. Long before I crashed I had a fascination for Leprous.
Now we have to visit the culture. I think you have done Aurora in the past. If you listen to her cover of Ariana Grande's "God is a woman" - you will find that she covers up parts of the lyrics with vowels - and she is particular about the words she refuses to spell out. This is what we have done since the dawn of time. The music is the emotional part - not the lyrics - so we do that with vowel-bending.
As such it is also rather "classical". Beethoven did not need lyrics to his 9th. We do not need subtitles to understand what is going on.
Sometimes actual words get in the way of expression of something more ... intimate?
Prog rock is a way for males to smile (we can nerd out on maths really well with polyrhythms and all the technicalities going on) - but it can also be a good way to cry - from internal chaos and nothingness and everything at once.
If you watch the video you reacted to ever again - focus on the audience when they are in focus. They are meditative as "rockers". Us men may not always be the best to express what we feel. But we sure can immerge into the sensation.

Yes unfortunately men's mental health is often overlooked and men are taught to repress there feeling.
Yes music is a great tool to help with depression etc... for anyone regardless of the genre.
But saying "prog rock is male's way to smile" and the rest of that paragraph is one of the most bizarre gatekeepy takes I've read in a long time.
The last Leprous show I went to there were as many women as men and all of them were into the music.
