@@Hellion421 It's not straight 4/4 dude, it's 7/4 but this changes back to 4/4 throughout the song. You can keep track of it better by rotating the counts or counting 15/8. The heavy part is 4/4 though and the clean riff (Jakey riff).

I'd love for you to do Satellites by Periphery from the same album. It really showcases Spencer's vocal abilities on a whole other level with some crazy belted notes!
The theme of the song is also really interesting how we "neglect" and essentially waste our planet.

Yay, Periphery! My favourite band for quite some years now. Spencer Sotelo, the singer, is sooooo freakin good! You should check out "Satellites" from the same album, he sings his lungs out in this one, reaching notes way higher than in GITB.
I feel like there's way too much pitch correction on that one. I'd say something where it's more discrete/non existent
Ilian Petit spencer doesnât use pitch correction anymore. I read somewhere that he used it on P1 and some on P2 (for background vocals), but he doesnât use pitch correction anymore and if he does itâs not that much. If you watch videos of him singing the end section of Flatline you can see that he doesnât need it.
@@dakotahutson3666 never said he needed it, Spencer's the man. He used it on every single release apart from P2, and on Hail Stan it's just mostly not subtle at all.
@@TMmodify that's not pitch correction its just insane harmonies, it threw me off the first time I listened to it too. I can't comment on wether or not Spencer uses any amount of pitch correction because honestly the majority of modern bands use at least a little bit, but that's not what you're hearing in satellites.

I've been waiting for you to react to anything from Periphery and wasn't disappointed. Spencer Sotelo, the vocalist just keeps refining his style with every album, and Hail Stan is his pinnacle so far. If you'd like to give them another try, I'd suggest Satellites from Hail Stan or Lune from Periphery III: Select Difficulty.

Thank you for highlighting Spencer Sotelo's incredible vocals for Periphery! I've never heard a singer improve as much as he has since the band's 2010 debut.

Every part of their live performance is flawless. Itâs honestly amazing to watch.
Stylistically, Periphery is all over the place. It's all metal in one form or another, but an entire album from them is a hell of a journey. Also, Spencer is obviously a very talented singer. Great video!
Spencer's range is insane. I believe he hits an F5 in Jet Packs are Yes, but his unofficial highest is probably drunkenly singing Kelly Clarkson's "Since You've Been Gone"...

Oh my... I saw these guys in Berlin back in November 2019, and it was just insane. I never thought that Spencer was able to reproduce all that live. But during the whole gig, that guy blew the audience away. This vocalist is just insane....

Obviously your first Periphery experience đ Spencer's vocals are wonderful(also in practice), you get used to the polyrhythms with time, most of their songs are actually 4/4.

Periphery is very near and dear to my heart because the shapes of the sounds just make sense to me so I was a little reluctant to watch. I donât expect people to get it and I definitely donât expect people to TRY to get it and I have to give this girl props for giving it an honest listen. It was really cool to see the music move her like that. Ton of respect for her. She did an awesome job just experiencing it.

This album hooked me with Reptile alone for like a month, once I got the CD and could listen in my car the rest of the album carried me another month. Absolutely fantastic album, and I love the reaction!
Satellites is by far my favorite song Periphery has ever done, Sponceâs vocals are insane
It's Only Smiles would be another good one.

Love it! Refining your "mixed" voice as you seem to call it is definitely a game changer for songs like this. There are about a hundred comments already suggesting it, but seriously; the track Satellites from the same album is one of the best vocal performances I've heard in this style of music, you should check it out when you get the time!
Just wanted to say thank you for being you. Of all the different âvocal coach reactsâ channels Iâve found so far on CZcams, youâre the most easily relatable personality out there by a country mile. Also Periphery is from my home town (Washington DC) so glad to see them getting more exposure.
I really want to hear what you think of Anthony Green from Circa Survive's vocals, a lot of people think that band has a female vocalist at first listen because the vocals are so high pitched. Lustration, Child Of The Desert or Act Appalled would be some good songs to do.

reptile by Periphery almost 17 min of some of the most beautiful crazy amazing vocal work ive ever heard. 2 month ago i found them in a recommended tab on you tube i cant stop listening to this band over and over again every album. i cant even find a song i dislike or dont enjoy on a single album. god it feels like i discovered Judas Priest all over again back in high school. my mind is blown by this band, Reptile is pretty much a rock opera in of its own with a story its really mind blowing

Spencer has a very pop-inspired background. I believe he's cited Kelly Clarkson as being a big influence on his style, and he certainly enjoys adding pop elements in to his singing. Even if you don't like him, you have to admit he has a very unique and advanced style.

Odd ball but check out Arcane Roots, "If Nothing Breaks, Nothing Moves" Andrews voice is amazingly controlled and diverse, I think you'll love it and it would be nice to shed light on a smaller artist.

please Beth! More Periphery reactions. I love the entire Periphery discography, but "Hail Stan" (the album where Garden in the bones is from) is my absolute favorite album. Spencers voice is soo good!. Such a brilliant voice, Epic high distortion and such good clean. The mucis aswell! everyone love epic prog music ;)
If you want another alt-rock/post-hardcore band with high vocals you should check out Arcane Roots. Criminally underrated. I'd recommend the song Triptych from the Blood & Chemistry album.

Spencer is insane; he can occasionally go higher than that Eb. He can go from the heaviest metal-y vibes to pure pop-diva stylings within the same song, and even on those super high notes he's really belting it out. I don't think I'll ever tire of seeing people react to his absurd range, you should check out some more Periphery; he has more to offer, I promise. There are so many songs that provide great demonstrations it's hard to go wrong: Stranger Things, Reptile, Lune, Satellites, It's Only Smiles, Absolomb (has some nuts highs). It's a very long list, some of these songs are long but they're really, really, really worth it.
Please try Satellites!!!! His vocals are amazing in that track. He hits a G5!!

This was a really good breakdown of this song. This type of music usually takes a few listens to get into because of all the changes which doesn't really appeal to the mainstream listener. On the topic of your pop signing, Spencer has another project that he would have been working on at the same time as this album call Nik Mystery that explores synthwave pop which you can hear a lot of in this periphery album. You should definitely check out Satellites by Periphery next because it will really showcase spencers range, not just notes but style too.

I love this!
His pop sensibilities certainly make him divisive in the metal commmunity but for me there is no question that he one of the best singers in the genre.
His sense of melody connects and grounds the very challenging and disjointed instrumental songwriting.
You gotta do their song Stranger Things next. One of Spencer's best vocal performances.
