Black Star Canyon Falls: The Loop of Doom
Vložit
- čas přidán 6. 04. 2022
- Black Star Canyon Falls is a classic California waterfall hike. But legend has it that not only can you scramble up and into the waterfall, you can climb all the way up the steep cliffs surrounding the falls to explore way beyond into the Cleveland National Forest. Of course, not only was the route beyond the falls sketchy, it was filled with lovely poison oak to top it all off, causing it to earn its very appropriate name - the "Loop of Doom". This was a popularly requested viewer recommendation, and you know LiveHardxLoveHard can never resist a good dicey adventure!

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat !??!?! I've been to the waterfall but a whole new world has just been opened up to me . Thanks !
Awesome! Ya the loop is really a fun way to do it -- just make sure to watch out for that poison oak!! ❤️
If these types of videos are not my favorite, then they are close to my my favorite.
There is a feeling of being extra-alive when you are out in nature like this.
I love the peacock. What a beautiful bird.
I have never seen one in the wild like this.
If I were uber-rich, I would have a few of them parading around the estate, and flirting with the females.
That fly-in map you have at the beginning there is very cool.
It really helps put you there.
This video was posted only a few days ago, and already there are 10k views.
So I am not the only one who is there climbing this gnarly terrain with you.
You are obviously in great shape.
Nice energy.
We are so happy you enjoy these vids! Peacocks are truly a special creature, we're just so curious to know how it ended up there. Apparently, another viewer told us that peacocks roam wild and free in the neighborhoods of Florida. Who knew? Glad to know that we can share that feeling of being alive that we get from being out on the trails. It's like an addictive drug that keeps us coming back for more!
Awesome.
Glad you got to do this trek...and you got to meet Homer the Peacock .
Haha thanks so much! Homer was a huge highlight, and overall it's just a fantastic trail!!! ❤️
Loved watching this adventure, you guys never disappoint! The graffiti is heartbreaking though, who does a tough hike like that carrying water, snacks, and oh don’t forget the spray paint?
Right?!?! Why the heck would anyone who likes nature enough to do the hike want to deface it so horribly? We're planning to organize a clean-up later this summer where we DO carry paint with us -- rock colored paint -- to cover over all that ugly graffiti. ❤️
Yeah, graffiti 😪
I know right!
I've been to that waterfall and inside that cave and to the Indian village.. it's absolutely amazing! One of my favorite hikes for sure.. But I've never done the mountain climbing route that you guys took.. but what a beautiful view up there! Great video!
It really is a great hike, Bryan -- and the waterfall is probably roaring right now with all the rain! Next time you should try the climbing route, just off to the right of the waterfall cave pool. But make sure you have pants or tights for once you get to the forest area, because there was def some poison oak!
@@LiveHardxLoveHard thanks for that! I'm actually thinking about going this weekend.. I'm going to look for that climbing route
Black Star Cyn Falls is located near Silverado CA.
There’s a bit of don’t-look-down vertigo as our climbing heroes are expected to climb up some pretty steep & sketchy hills using nothing but their bare hands, feet and anything else that’ll keep them from falling and risking serious injury.
There’s also some we very nice scenery along the way and sadly a reminder that not everyone that ventures out are there to enjoy the scenery and use the “leave no trace” mentality. There are caves where people have chosen to leave graffiti.
Putting the distraction aside this hike looked challenging for the average person but Adam & Elise made it look like a good workout routine.
Note: I’ve been busy planning a vacation so, I’ll check back in mid May.
Love & Respect.
Frans we have missed you! But delighted to hear that you've been busy for such a happy reason. Have a wonderful vacation, and we look forward to hearing a colorful tale about your adventures when you return! ❤️
Classic scrambly SoCal mountain terrain. Always steep, loose and messy. Reminds me of places in Sespe Canyon - a multiday adventure like this in Ventura County.
Thanks David, that is good to know about Sespe -- one of our goals for this coming year is to do some good multiday adventures! ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard Note that Tar Canyon described in that report is now closed. You have to hike out the bottom which is tough. The last part you are on a navigable stream that crosses private property, which you can traverse if you stay in the river
@@dmbeaster Good info-- thank you!
This is great to know about and thank you for all your discoveries of great hiking locations in Cali !!
Thanks Lance -- it's really a pleasure to share these discoveries, especially since you guys are also so great about telling us cool hikes we didn't know about before. It's a perfect symbiotic relationship! ❤️
This might be the greatest title ever.
Who could resist a title like this?
The loop of doom.
If anybody read the title and didnt click, then they were obviously too scared.
Haha! We felt the "Loop of Doom" very accurately described our tour of the Orange County poison oak population 😂
Great clips always look forward to seeing them from bonnie Scotland 🏴
Thanks much, Keith! Love that you're watching all the way from Scotland, and hope we're bringing you some virtual sunshine during the rainy season! ❤
Beautiful,🤩 good job always,👍🏻beautiful places, take care, greetings.😉👍🏻👏🏽👏🏽✌🏽😇
Thanks Maria! We were so happy to experience such a beautiful hike down in Orange County -- what a great place!! ❤
Another amazing experience
Thank you! This one was definitely more amazing than we expected -- a true surprise treat! ❤️
I miss you too 😍 your. Back 😁 cool rumble.
Thanks David! Just getting ourselves geared up for the big spring and summer adventure season!! ❤️
Never would have thought a gem like this in Blackstar Canyon exists...
Nice job..
You and us both! We were totally shocked at how beautiful this hike was, beginning to end. It's completely made us re-evaluate Orange County as a hiking destination, and we may go down for another adventure in the next few months! Anyway, very glad you enjoyed. ❤️
Oh, I just love you guys!! From the peacock 🦚 at the beginning, the deep black hole you guys got in..Cringe.. and the amazing vistas y'all showed us at the top of that dicey climb, what a wonderful treat to go with ya'll on your adventures!! Your music reaches my soul!!! Be safe, take care and will be waiting on "our" trips .🤗❤️
Thanks so much, Dorothy! Glad you liked the peacock -- he was such a highlight for us because we've never ever seen one in the wild before! And thanks so much for your kindness about the music as well -- it really makes us happy to know that you enjoy it. ❤️
I go there A LOT with my dog and never once had poison oak 😅 Great video !!
Thanks! That's great you've never gotten the poison oak. Do you ever go on the upper part above the falls just below the Indian village? That area was where we really saw a lot of poison oak. I somehow managed not to get it, but poor Adam got a rash in three different places! ❤️
What a combination! Loved the WTF stage of it too. I'm a real amateur climber and once got lost/bushwacking looking for the Maltese cross in the Sederberg mountains RSA. Never felt so good finding a trial on top after heading into nowhere. All's well that ends well.
Haha totally agree -- all's well that ends well. OMG getting lost bushwhacking is the worst, can totally imagine how glad you were to see that trail! Very glad you enjoyed this one -- such a fun SoCal adventure that many people overlook. ❤️
That is really impressive. You guys rock..
Thanks very much -- we were so surprised at all the different elements of this hike, but it was pretty much a blast the whole time (except for trying to avoid the poison oak!). ❤
In the early 1970"s I learned to repel down the waterfall. I must have done it at least 100 times. Faceing the falls there is a spot on the left where I wedged my way up and over the top. I did that 6 times before swearing off due to the danger. I loved that place.
That is awesome!!! We would definitely like to try climbing up/down the full falls at some point, but with rope protection for sure! ❤️
很美的风景,很好的体验,赏心悦目,感谢分享!
Thanks Andy --we were surprised and very grateful to find this beautiful little hike so close to LA. Glad you liked it! ❤️
What a great adventure! That waterfall cave was awesome! It blows my mind how many beautiful places you guys have explored! Thanks for taking us along!
Thanks Paul! That cave was definitely the ultimate spot for a cold plunge, which you're going to need now that you're stretching those muscles with some new PRs! Very glad we could take you along! ❤️
Incredibly cool!!
Thanks much -- this is such a great hike! But remember, if you want to do it when the falls are going you should go in the winter or spring -- summer and fall they dry up! ❤️
Wow ..you guys always amaze me ..Love your adventurous spirit
Aw thank you! This one was a good reminder that despite the Sierras and other ranges being too dangerous to climb right now, there's plenty of adventure to be had, you've just got to be willing to search it out!
Wow - this was great. You guys are a great team, even when things are challenging, you all are having fun :-). I loved how how you did the waterfall downclimb, that was NOT easy, impressive. Great job, great video, great adventure - thanks for bringing us along!
Thanks Paul, and you're so right -- downclimbing is WAY harder than climbing up, especially when it's wet. But as you say, we really did have a great time, even when things got tough. ❤
That is such an awesome hiking, rock climbing, route finding adventure. Kinda of exciting, I do agree about the graffiti, it is too bad it is all over that beautiful area!!! Love, love your adventures ❤️
Thanks Cynthia! Yes, we are already planning to get a group together in late summer to go and paint over that graffiti with rock-colored paint. As a previous comment hilariously said, it wasn't even GOOD graffiti, just idiotic vandalism that should definitely be covered up! ❤️
Beautiful scenery thanks both of you for all those great adventures .👍👌🙏
Thanks Jose! We really love sharing them with you, and feel so grateful to you guys for giving us ideas and always inspiring us to keep going! ❤
Wow! What a beautiful sights! Amazing video, as always, you guys definitely rock!
Thanks Miguel! We couldn't believe there was such a beautiful hike so close to us that we hadn't even heard of before. SoCal continues to amaze us!! ❤️
i bet you are still treating the poison oak. Thank you, so much. My wife and I used to be a little like you two, and been to some of the same spots, only 20 years ago. Never here, Black star Canyon. Best to you both, Keep it up and don't have a big accident!
Thanks very much -- we love the idea that we're going back to some of the same places you guys went 20 years ago! 20 years from now, we're hoping if all goes well to have a huge archive of these adventures that we'll be able to look back on. Believe it or not, Elise somehow avoided the poison oak completely! Adam got it in 3 places -- including on his ear!! -- but Elise managed to waltz through entirely unscathed! ❤️
I need more Adam frustration clips! **BeeeEEP!** 😆 Great stuff as always. ❤️
Hahahaha we can definitely make that happen for you, Jamie! 😂❤
Such unique scenery omg! and amazing adventure as always, thank you for this video!
Thanks Carl! Ya we were pretty astonished to find such a variety of scenery -- and animal life (peacock!!!!) -- right there in Orange County. Glad you enjoyed!! ❤️
I’m the same way, I NEVER will go back the same way I came. My kids get mad at me… while I keep saying”the trail is just up here”🤣
Totally, but it's great you're taking them out for adventures. Every time we get to the top of a giant peak, we sit and give thanks to our parents for teaching us about courage, perseverance, and the joy of adventure. They'll do the same one day!
Another great video from my 2 favorite Adventurers!
Thanks very much! Stoked that you liked this one -- we honestly didn't expect it to wind up being as much of an adventure as it was, but sometimes those end up being the funnest ones of all! ❤️
Wow what a wonderful and challenging hiking experience to ever come all obstacles and still find a way you guys are the best love you ❤️🚶♀️🚶
Thanks Raymond! You should def put this one on your list for winter or spring when the falls are flowing. So fun -- you would love it!! ❤️
know when to hold them, know when to fold them........trekking poles that is. nice hike i always enjoy seeing these
Mistakes were definitely made! I blame my post-fall-swim shivers jumbling my brains. 😂 Glad to know you enjoyed this one! -E
Familiar feel, that is the kind of stuff my kids do to drive Dad crazy. I had to keep telling myself, they posted the video, so they had to have gotten through it. Love how Adam gets grumpy in the moment but then loves the thought of the adventure once its over. That is such a great example of hiking in general. No matter how hard, the memories are always fond after the fact. Keep the fun coming, its always a good day when you post a lh^2 adventure.
Haha that is so, so true. My dad is often on the edge of his seat watching these videos, even though I've already talked to him from home by the time they come out 😂. And Adam really is funny when he's grumpy. He's usually so positive and upbeat, but he HATES getting lost -- esp in poison oak! But then as soon as he's back on track he's immediately happy again. ❤️ --E
Love your guys videos. I will be trying this one in the next few weeks thanks to you.
Awesome, Kelvin! Just watch out for the poison oak -- there really is a lot of it. You might want to wear pants instead of shorts even if it's hot in order to keep it off your legs. We prob should have done that. Hope you have a fantastic time! Oh, and if possible, go within a few days after it rains so you can get the waterfall when it's really running!
Thank you again for an entertaining adventure! So enjoy the variety of your videos.
Thanks Jason! It’s really good to hear that, because we ourselves live for variety and different kinds of adventures. Happy to know you like all the different things we’re doing!
Looks so much fun if I was younger. Glad you guys had an adventure.
Haha yes -- this one was really fun, especially climbing up in to that crazy waterfall cave! Very glad we could bring you along! ❤
Another great video you guys, thanks so much for bringing all of us on these adventures! Somehow each video is better than the one before, or we just grow more fond of you both along the way, lol! I think it’s both haha! Take care and keep climbing safe!
Aw, thank you so much. We’re currently in the middle of a ten hour car ride back from a Utah adventure, and your kind words brought a smile to both of our faces, so thanks for getting us home in good spirits!
Great video guys! I've down black Star many times such a fun adventure.
Awesome Joe! Very glad we could film one down there -- really is a wonderful area, and without you guys we'd never have known about it!! ❤️
Super, my friends ! :-) Have a good time :-)
Thanks much, Petr! We're so happy that the weather is warming and the snow is stopping -- hopefully soon we'll be able to get back up into the big mountains!! ❤
Sitting in ‘sunny’ Queensland, Australia hoping the rain will stop at some stage over the next few days so we can get out and have an adventure of our own. In the meantime watching you two on your adventures is keeping me going. Love the scenery, excitement and even the grumps 😊
Haha yeah we thought Australia was like California, Louisa -- pretty much all sun, all the time! Very glad we could brighten up a rainy day for you. 🌈❤️
Nice this is in my backyard ;) loved seeing this one. That waterfall doesn’t always have water and looks like you picked a perfect time to visit
Great place to live Alex! And yes we purposefully timed this one for a few days after the most recent rain. We still didn’t know how much water there would be but we were hoping for something special like this and it worked out! That plunge pool in the cave was really something else :)
Awesome video guys!!!! And the music!! Well y’all killed it!❤️
Thanks Cynthia! It's so fun to have enough songs now that we can really pick and choose which we feel is right for the vibe of the hike. Really happy you liked it! ❤
@@LiveHardxLoveHard your voice is beautiful!!!!
What a beautiful spot. amazing rock features
Yes Jim, it was truly gorgeous in person. We were both shocked about the graffiti on some of the prettiest rocks, but are thinking of organizing a graffiti cleanup there later on in the summer when the waterfall is dry. We don't want to let those clueless idiots mar the beauty of this incredible place! ❤️
haha love it!! You two definitely have much bigger balls than me! Glad it's not just me who ends up bushwhacking, except for me it's gorse, heather and scree mainly rather than poison oak!! hahahaha
Haha I remember that gorse, heather, and scree -- and bogs! It's no picnic, but prob still prefer it over that freaking p-oak!
@@LiveHardxLoveHard haha yeah I forgot to mention the bogs too!!😛
Wow! The last 2 adventures have been gnarly! Great job bringing creativity and adventure....in spades👏 A little tip for poison oak exposure: When you get home, hop in the shower with a container of bleach. Pour the bleach down your arms and legs, and then "wash" using your bare hands, and rinse off. The bleach takes the oils off your skin, and you won't be affected. It works better, the sooner you can do it. So for example on this adventure, had you had a bottle of bleach in the car, if there was a water source at the trail head, you could have done a quick rinse of arms, legs, and exposed torso, then driven home, and done it for real. You can do it during the days following the exposure, if you start to see the itchy, red, blotchy areas appearing. Just pour some bleach on the site, let it sit for a moment, and rinse with cold water. Poison Oak is most "dangerous" when the leaves are orange and red, which typically happens later in the Summer and Fall, with exposure to hot Summer/Fall temps. Also, and I have no formal proof of this; it seems like people who don't eat dairy, have little to no reaction to it. (Dairy protein is seen as a foreign invader by the body's immune system, so the body ramps up the immune system, making it sensitive to everything. So people who consume dairy are more prone to allergies, asthma, plants like poison oak/ivy/stinging nettles, skin issues, brittle hair, etc.)
Todd that is great advice! We did rinse off thoroughly of course, but didn't know the trick about the bleach. Next time, we will for sure bring some with us. Fortunately, we've been eating very little dairy so should be in pretty good shape there -- and perhaps proving your point, I eat more dairy than Elise and so far I'm the only one of us that's had a reaction to the poison oak (but thankfully not too bad so far). --A
@@LiveHardxLoveHard That's awesome! I'm glad you guys didn't wind up being effected. I really enjoyed the recent adventures, and can't thank you two enough for all the hard work (training, planning, executing, video-ing, editing) you put into the channel. You've created a real genre.👍
Loved every minute of this video. The views, waterfall , the black hole, Adam’s grumpy face This video had so many interesting elements . It was a short video for us 😅.
Thanks Samridhi! Really glad you guys liked the different elements -- we love variety like that too. Our two favorite things on this one were the peacock and the black hole -- it was crazy how deep it was, and it was so perfectly shaped just like a plunge pool! ❤
@@LiveHardxLoveHard yes it did have all the elements to bring up the unstoppable vulcanic smile that comes from deep within

Aw thanks so much! Worth braving that poison oak!
You never disappoint! If ever you're in New England, the White Mountains can be epic
Firdos that's a great recommendation -- we DEF want to climb in the White Mountains, and will for sure make it out there in the next year or two. We've heard nothing but great things, and it's been too long since we've gotten back east! ❤️
I've never used hiking poles but you guys showed us how on that steep rock climb!! 😀😀 Thanks again for all your videos, we appreciate them so much!! PS - I ran a race years ago on the WS trail....50k in the pouring rain. All the oils from the poison ivy and oak leaves filled the puddle-laden trails. Wow had to go to the emergency room for a steroid shot when I returned home!
Wow that is a GREAT story! So sorry that happened but what an experience and super badass that you ran a 50k. Adam really does use his poles well up steep grades, he has learned how to shorten them and use them as a claw. I, on the other hand, tend to bungle it, but I’m trying to learn from his example 😂❤️- E
In the midst of the bushwhack and grumpiness, my bf overhears and says “someone get Adam at poptart” 🤣 it’s like we know you so well, w/o actually knowing you - thank you for sharing your adventures, with all the ups and downs 🤪
Hahahaha that made us both laugh so hard! 😂 And you're totally right as well -- he went too early on his pop tart, eating it to warm up after the waterfall rather than saving it for an actual emergency!! ❤️
Hi Adam and Elise. Looks like a very interesting trail.
Thanks for posting this video❣❣ Please stay safe and healthy😉
Thank you! It was such a unique place to explore! We promise to stay as healthy as possible, sans poison oak outbreaks 😂

Thanks Larry! Haha you're so right about the wows -- when we were editing it we were like, "why were we saying 'wow' and 'awesome' so much?" 😂 But it really was a 'wow' type of place. Thanks Patrick! One of these days we're def going to get out there to TN and NC and climb some of those waterfalls!! ❤
@@LiveHardxLoveHard Adam/Elise, if you are serious about TN/NC someday, I can send you lots of info (beta) on locations, off-trail gorges, etc. Be aware however, best months in those parts for off-trail are late fall/winter. Ticks, mosquitos, snakes and the fuller canopy can be real nuisances otherwise. ;)
@@patrickwestfall1625 Fabulous! We are definitely serious, because Adam's brother lives in Boone, NC and we are overdue for a visit -- prob in 2023. If it's ok with you, we'll reach out a month or two before we come and ask for a couple of your top recommendations (w/ beta if possible!).

At 2:20 (aside from Elise looking good) is an excellent example of an ancient river bottom conglomerate (note the rounded cobbles).
Beautiful view at 11:00. Great hike!
Haha thanks for both the compliment and the info! We were really wondering about the composition of those rocks -- even in the waterfall cave too. Very interesting about the ancient river bottom causing the rounded cobbles! ❤️
You guys have been killing it the past couple of hikes/climbs! Your fearless adventurous spirit amazes me, even if I get a little nervous watching you! I managed to take a gnarly fall just doing easy boulder hopping after my foot got caught in a bush. Wounds healed up, knee is still not 100% from the impact and I've lost a lot of confidence - now I just inch my way up and down like an old lady. 😂 Hopefully the confidence will come back and I'll dare to do things half as dicey as you! Hope your bodies are okay after the encounter with OC's poison oak population (you funny!). You're amazing and incredibly inspiring. Much love! ❤️
Teddie so sorry to hear about the fall! Of course be careful until your knee is 100%, but don't let it make you lose confidence -- it's always on easy boulder hopping that things like that happen. Adam's worst fall so far was boulder hopping on the way up to Cloudripper. That was so ironic, because going up the face was a really scary climb and he navigated it perfectly, but had a bad fall on the easy approach when an innocent-looking boulder gave way. It just happens sometimes, but we know you won't let adversity slow you down for long! Big hugs from both of us!! ❤
@@LiveHardxLoveHard thank you so much for sharing and for the encouragement! 🙏 I wondered what your worst fall has been, and you're right, it really does seem to happen in the most innocent places! Glad Adam was okay in the end! The scrapes and bruises are part of the hobby we've chosen but we get back up and put mind over matter, right? 🙂 Sending you guys love too! ❤️
@@6MTGirl Exactly right!
I hope you two are not allergic to poison oak! I had poison ivy as a kid, and that was apparently enough to build up immunity to it later - was cycling down off of Skyline blvd in the bay area years ago, and took a hairpin turn too fast and took an overhanging poison oak bush right in the face! Never broke out from it, thankfully! Thanks for taking us along again!
Haha you lucked out on that one, Jeff! Adam is currently breaking out a little bit on his legs and ear (where he took that one bush to the face) but so far nothing too bad, and Elise remains pristine as usual. ❤️

Thanks so much, Serge! Yes this one had some really interesting climbing challenges. And don't worry too much. I grew up as a little sister, and whenever my brother climbed something then I always wanted to climb it too. Now it's the same with Adam. Once I see him go up something, I usually want to do it too. how deep was that cave bath tub? that must hav been a huge underground aquifer millenia ago...amazed how u discover these places.. all socal n undeveloped ,, very kool,,,,,,,,,,stay safe
That pool was so deep that we couldn't even see the bottom! Adam is 6'6'', and he pointed his toes when he lowered down into it and still wasn't even close to touching anything. We were wondering if maybe it even goes all the way to the ground! Anyway, super glad you're enjoying these exploration hikes. Lately a lot of the ideas have been coming from you guys. Like on this one, someone wrote us and said he thought we'd love the traditional waterfall hike, and also that he'd heard there's a way to climb all the way up the cliff behind it and potentially make it into a gigantic loop. Fun extension of this hike and tbh the upper portion is more enjoyable than the lower. I never see ppl above the falls, perhaps that's why but also the massive boulders above the falls and the creek are truly amazing. I mentioned it before but if you liked this trail then tanriverdi falls hike should be on your list.
Ya Andrew we loved the upper portion too! It was cool to be the only ones up there. We actually waited to do the hike until after a rain to make sure the falls would be flowing. But we were lucky that it did rain, because we've darn near passed the rainy season! We definitely have Tanriverdi on the list -- great suggestion, and really looking forward to that one as well! ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard Another one for your list but i have yet to do is further up Santa Paula from the slide and punch bowls. Jackson Falls is the name please look it up, it looks amazing. Loved that hike, so much fun, but even more fun awaits further up the creek apparently. It may be too late this year due to the lack of rain... from what i read it does dry up quick. I think you would agree that would make the punch bowls hike even more of an epic adventure.
Yes! We have another friend who also recommended that hike and said it got pretty gnarly going even further up -- so you are right, we definitely need to try it (next rainy season, of course!).
@@LiveHardxLoveHard just an update on Jackson falls. My sister and i went June 4th and it was bone dry. Overgrown past the punch bowls but doable. On the way back we stopped at the slide because she was determined to try it this time. A word of caution, my sister did the slide 2 times then decided to go a bit higher up. This put her into the wall near the bottom and she lacerated her elbow. She got very lucky, it looked like she hit her head but that wasn't the case. Slide with caution, she was lucky to only have to get her elbow stitched back up it could have been way worse. First time i had to use my first aid kit and was previously EMT.
@@andrews7911 Thanks much for the update, Andrew! And yes that wall at the bottom is no joke when you descend with speed -- Adam was taking a lot of care not to hit his head and even still came close a couple of times. So sorry to hear your sister cut herself, but awesome that you had the skills and the kit to take care of her right there. ❤
I’ve hiked this canyon several times and didn’t know you could got this far up like they did. I stopped at the falls even after climbing up into the waterfall section they did. I did do the climb up the mtn wall at Escondido Falls in Malibu. Looked easy until it didn’t in reality…LOL
Haha, it always looks easy until it's not! 😂 We actually got the idea about climbing beyond the falls from a few recommendations on previous videos. Would not have known about it either (there's zero beta we could find about it online) , but definitely upped the adventure factor!
The waterfall was so beautiful. That shot of Adam on top of the mountain was priceless. How do you stay so cheerful when you can't find a trail? What was the final score with the poison oak? I'll look forward to the next video--love you!
Haha I wasn't too cheerful when we were lost in that poison oak bushwhack, Bob. Elise was cheerful because she's a gremlin, and it sort of delights her when I get grumpy 😂. So far the score is Adam 3 rash spots, Elise 0. Maybe she got immunized by your backyard P-oak when she was a kid!
Remain cheerful?
Um, that's the fun stuff, Vertiginous Bushwhacking, I mean you're out in nature and you can be proud that you e made it this far and have the capability of making it even further
I did this one earlier in the year. I saw the peacock too!
That peacock must be a little trail celebrity!
So did you guys get poison oak? There’s no way I go anywhere near poison oak; I get it really bad. That was fun to watch, though!
Thanks Caroline! So far, Adam has just a few rash reactions -- one on each leg and one on his ear -- but nothing too unbearable. And Elise has so far escaped with none! ❤️
What an awesome hike! You two aced it, albeit a few scrapes and poison oak. Do you guys have zip-off pant legs? They really help and are ideal for bushwhacking. Elise, I love your new songs. The VOICE needs you! Adam , I really admire your positive attitude, which I know Elise appreciates, too. Can't wait to see your next adventure. Stay safe!
Thanks Gar! I've been trying to get E to go on the Voice for ages -- very glad to hear you support the idea! I do have some zip-off pant legs, and you're right they would def have been perfect for this. Gotta get some for E and we'll be good to go next time on the P-oak! -- A
@@LiveHardxLoveHard The holes you found in the ground are called grinding holes in which local native Americans would use grinding stones to make flour from acorns, etc. and create tools.
@@gcropser55 OMG Gar that is the information we needed! We actually had a segment where we were debating what those holes were and asked you guys to tell us if anyone knew, but somehow it accidentally got deleted from the GoPro. Thank you!
Great job and what a nice view! I have a request too, I want to see you two doing the direct ascent route of Mt. Wilson, red rock canyon in Las Vegas. You'll scramble through white pinnacle, dead horse point, and to the wilson peak. Class 4 - 5 ascent. Hope you guys check it out! I think it's the best season to do it now. Must avoid summer.
OMG that looks AWESOME! We are definitely going to attempt that direct ascent route. Things are very busy this spring before our Europe trip, but if we don't do it in spring we'll almost certainly get to it once things start to cool down in the fall. Thanks very much for this excellent recommendation -- it is right up our alley! ❤️
Several routes up to Mt Wilson and her subpeak, but I agree with Samsam to avoid summer. It takes about 7 hours, or maybe 9 hours roundtrip if you are coming at Wilson from the First Creek trailhead. Advantage to using First Creek trailhead is that you can park there outside the RRCNCA scenic drive loop and thus leave as early in the morning as you like. RRCNCA is a scrambler's paradise!
@@patrickwestfall1625 @livehardxlovehard
exactly that's a scrambler's paradise, Wilson is there for you two to climb! The worst thing in summer is mosquitos in the First Creek trail. They chase you until you get out of the creek. It is HELL. Thanks to this channel, I got to know Cloudripper, and I will try this summer. After you try Wilson, let us know which one is scarier :)
@@Samsam-ms8bv It's funny you say that about the mosquitos in that creek and elsewhere. They never bite me. Some will land and then just fly off. Now, the Spring mosquitos in Wyoming---those guys are huge monsters!
The only thing I dislike about this trail is all the damn Graffiti. .
Totally agree, and thank you again for this wonderful recommendation. We really did love the hike. Maybe at some point in late summer we can join forces and do a graffiti cover-up operation down there...
@@LiveHardxLoveHard The Graffiti in that area is terrible. There are many volunteers that ry to clean it up a few times a years and within weeks it's back.
Absolutely disgusting on how fast it comes back. Not to mention all the bags of dog crapola and the trash on this trail.
@@aceyorba Wow that is crazy. It's bizarre to think about the mind of a person who would want to do that to a beautiful natural place.
You never disappoint. Thank you for taking me on another great adventure. Don’t you feel cold when you plunge into those pools? What is the temperature there at the moment. I noticed you get your shoes wet. Mine are less light than yours and just don’t get wet. How does it work when you continue walking? Any hot spots because of wet fabric?
Thanks Anna! Oh yes it was definitely cold! I think it was about 65 out that day but the water was MUCH colder. We’ve been practicing cold exposure during the week to help build up to it though :) the wet socks are definitely not fun but we usually bring an extra pair to be safe!
This must be a popular trail to have so much tagging 🙁Looks fun though. Neat little canyon. I think I would use the “trail” though instead so you know where it is. Those are not teepee holes though. They are more likely used for grinding grain or acorns.
Thanks Chris -- we actually meant to ask you guys about the holes -- we'd filmed the segment and everything and then accidentally deleted it on the GoPro! But ya, someone else also said they are grinding holes. Very cool that you know that! ❤️
Ah peacock! Come to central florida many neighborhoods have flocks of peacocks just roaming around, making more peacocks every year. They just strut right up to our front door 🦚
What! That sounds incredible. They are such magical creatures. And way more exciting to have peacocks on your doorstep than the turkeys I had growing up! 😂 - E
Great job you guys did great on the loop of Doom.
There is an actual trail to the top of the cliff/waterfall out to the main road.
just hard to find. So did you guys get poison Oak?
I got it in three places -- a line on each leg, and one on my ear. Elise got none at all. How she managed that I'll never know! --A
Just started watching your channel not too long ago and am loving it! Also was that your original music? I really liked it.
Welcome, Emily! We're delighted you found us and are enjoying the adventures, and yes all of the music on the channel is our own original compositions and that is always Elise singing -- stoked that you like it!! ❤️
OMGoodness, looks like P oak everywhere...update us if you guys got it or not ;)
Ya it was everywhere! So far only Adam has a rash, and it's not too bad. One stripe on each leg and a little bit on his ear. But hopefully that will be all! ❤
I think you all should climb Mt. St. Helens. People say its easier in the winter due to traction from the snow (different hiking route in the winter that is 2 miles longer). I climbed it in the summer and was literally on top of the clouds at the top. Probably the hike I'm most proud of having done. You have to get a permit though I will say.
Yes! That is freaking awesome that you did St. Helens, and we have a goal to get up to Washington and do several of the volcano hikes including St. Helens and Rainier. If we don’t do it in the fall of ‘22, then definitely summer ‘23!
You will deffinitely like montague creek, trial harbour, accessed from the granite slab just north of trial harbour .starts with a steep ascent that one is a fool to go back down .see my canyoning west coast of tassie video.
I had to let out a cheeky laugh when adam said he didn't want to climb down the steep ascent...I kind of knew what was coming. Vertiginous Bushwhacking Heaven!
I still can't stop giggling!
When I go bush I never wear anything less than full length shirt and trousers...I'm no stranger to botany that pokes you back!.
As annoying as difficult terrain is at the time, without fail I look back at it with a smile that errupts from deep within my soul.
Ah and don't mention black rivulet near derby, bush whacking, waterfalls and gemstones,
Yeeeeehaa, giggle giggle giggle, wish I was there with you getting 'lost' in a vertiginous jungle
And I agree with you that grafiti does not belong out in nature
Over the easter long weekend, I had the unexpected opportunity to rope down some granite cliffs at victor harbour bluff, awwwwesome
Heck yeah, that sounds like our kind of weekend for sure!! 💪
Adam's snack spots make me dizzy 🥴!!
Ya I used to feel the same way, but over the years I'm getting used to it and now I sometimes even join him! ❤️
Walker Pass to Owen's Peak way easier. You can run out a Mile the south side. Great desert views.
You can go all the way to Kennedy Meadows. Take water. None. Zero. Dust. Kiavah Wilderness entry is off 395 past frog balls place, literally same entrance. But Owen's is way better and backside.
Usually combine it with trip to 100 giants. Campgrounds are up by Sherman Pass Kern River side. Good weekender.
You can drive out backwards come out at Ceasar Chávez Keene Cafe. Caliente Road?
Wow 🤩 Nice hike you guys! Watching this gave me an “Hawaiian feel” especially the waterfall and surroundings! How long was this hike and was this in California? I see that you were off the trail as there was a lot of bush whacking going on ☺️. Does this loop have its own marked trail or did you guys go purposely off trail in parts? It was amazing to watch always so adventurous 🤗!! Hope you both are having a wonderful weekend 😊!!
Thanks so much! It definitely reminded us in places of Hawaii as well…. Just with much colder water! 😂 it was all in about 10 miles, and we thought we were following a trail on our map but as you saw yourself, there really wasn’t much of one! We’re not quite sure if we were just completely off trail or if the dotted lines on our map we just representative of a route one could follow if one was just really excited about poison oak 😂 all in all a good adventure!
Onyx store, Sierra brewery up 395, you can loop it over Sherman Pass if open. Through Kennedy Meadows. Lol. Day trippers roll. Big time. You can drive 800 miles around Death Valley easy.
Same Arizona Strip. Yellowstone/Beartooth/Teton. Endless summer......
Ya Dan we've been finding that every time we go to DV -- there's always some totally new and interesting section of the park that we've never even been to!
Awesome fest
Thanks John! It's amazing how many cool hikes there are nearby to us!! ❤️
Nice jungle adventure! Jealousness! If you get stuck climbing with poles in hand. . . I colapse them and slide them above your waist belt between your back and the pack. Not ideal but good in a pinch. Did you guys get the red rock canyon beta I sent you? My trip there was incredible, unbelievable video with the local legend! but quite death defying. Let me know, cheers! Karl
Karl! We've been so crazy busy that I didn't get a chance to respond to your email yet, but will prob do it tomorrow. Can't wait to see your most recent adventures -- the stuff you've been doing sounds insanely awesome. Will email soon! --A
