West girl said I think so.
East girl said I hope so.
Very powerful.
Western: "I believe to myself to be best"
Eastern: "I may not be best but I aim to be"
Hi guys I’m a Korean girl in this video. Many people think that i finished Penn State in 2years because of my parents. But it is not true that I graduated early only because of my parents. In Korea, we have very competitive educational systems because we have only one chance to take a test to go to the university(if you don’t pass this, you should study one more year)
For me, I want to do something on my own and I just want to accomplish something which is very worthwhile. I don’t want to waste time by drinking or something like that(btw i drink a lot😛) so I focused on hard working to save EXPENSIVE tuition and I plan to graduate in 2years and it came true!
My parents are so happy and proud of me. But the overall culture in Korea is that people don’t really show it off to others(some people are not. Depends on person) I think it’s because other people feel jealous of them. I don’t know why but sadly it’s true.
And I was embarrassed to tell my GPA because I don’t want to make her(the girl next to me) embarrassed. I think we do not have to argue that who is smart or not. What we need to focus on is respect other people b/c we are all good enough.
What i learned from college is what degree i had is not really a matter in my whole life. But i realized that the most important thing is to know myself like what i like and what I don’t like. What I am good at and what i am bad at. I find myself during my college years and thanks for making a good memory Sam!
You’re beautiful
Well done. I was also an international student once upon a time. It takes lots of sacrifice n hard work to overload n complete the degree in 2 years. That is an achievement by itself.
Knowing myself 메모메모....
I think Koreans don’t tend to show off cause that’s considered as a good trait
Your like the moon with brightness of the sun
Wow..2 years to graduate...
what a humble and genius Korean Girl 👧
I'm Proud of you
well done girl!!♡
Does that mean she is going to graduates early than her class mates or what?
I’m confused
@@Lisa-mk3jb Yes
Accellerated course
The Sorority girl was so comfortable on stage haha she handle herself well!
Asian kid: Mom, Dad, I got straight A’s.
Mom, Dad: Good for you. Keep working hard.
Asian kid: Can I get a $10 Roblox for my A’s?
Mom, Dad: No! Those A’s are for your future.
'East is east, west is west; Turkey is something else.'
Sam really exposing these sorority girls
“In my country people not as polite, cars always go before people..etc.”
I was like “oh you from New York??” Lmao
Brooklyn in the house haha. Love it here tho.
West tends to be loud.
East tends to be silent.
Until the shite hits the fan, so to speak.
Enjoyed your research work
5:12 that hair! What does he feed it?
9:00 i can feel American student's fear 😄
I just like to comment that there are also differences between American-asians vs Asians. Or even third culture kids. It seems like there are quite few varieties there on stage
First of all, I’m from Taiwan...
7:44 east asian humility culture
"We have like...liike...like..like..like..
Oh and...like."..😂😂😂
Why would that guy talks about political issue in china. 😂. Everybody knows that China is run by a heartless govt.
And your country isn't run by a heartless government? 🤣🤣
It is really expensive for an overseas education. Hence, a student who is struggling financially would want to complete the degree course asap. It cuts down on the rental, tuition n board. At the same time, one would be able to join the workforce sooner to support oneself n family. Takes a lot of sacrifice n hard work too.
The difference in teacher
Western focus on supporting student to get A
Eastern focus on torturing and guarding students from getting A
If you don t score well you dont get to go to middle school n if you don't score well you don't get to go to high school
“The traditional professor was a receptacle of hard-won knowledge in a discipline that she or he had been hired to transmit to students. That professor has now been replaced by a hybrid cheerleader/mental-health therapist/counselor/entertainment facilitator/social worker/pseudo-parent/friend and confidante” - Professor A.Riley, Bucknell
I am definitely eastern so far as intelligence goes.
I don't think the West is supposed to be stupid. Looks like North American culture has eclipsed the West, to the extent that when people speak of the West, they really mean America.
I cringe so hard on that Taiwanese girl talking about American ppl being polite by giving way to pedestrians...
Taiwanese girl wearing cap is cute!

Asia has been considered threat by the West for about 2000 years. Huns, Mongolians, and Siklroad are the great example. After the invasion of Mongolia even awakened the whole Europe with new technologies like gun power, military threat, new invention like printing, and all other new shit. From that time, Europe had spantaneously evolved fast science, engineering, and medicine. Meanwhile, the arrogant East except Japan looked down on the West where was revolutionizing the industrial technology. And that's when the whole turned around game.. West extremely fast invented my things like electricity, mathmatics and science, engineeing. And the East had nothing.
Capitalism was born in the West. It's not a contest of who's got better technologies. The West simply broke out of the feudal system and created modernity. Japan was just quick to accept modern capitalism, while China resisted it as much as they could. It's nit about arrogance, but about which path is more honorable. The Chinese didn't think commerce or banking was honorable.
I just enjoy patent statistics now, time put everything on it's place :)
So East only mean Asians??
Yes. Asia is in the East, Europe is in the West. That's where these names come from.
The Sorority girl looks so confident🔥👌
It’s something you sadly don’t usually see with us Asians
asians just don't really like to show off cuz if our parents heard that from us....*slipper flying towards you*
2:02 I really don't appreciate the joke by Sam here, saying that it's fine to have some Chinese people killed because there's more of us, especially if it's in front of a huge audience that is SOC 119.
Imagine the situation being flipped around, and the international students joke that it's fine to have a couple of Americans shot and killed here because they help with target practice. Casual racism. Don't do it.
pieluver123 he didn’t mean it like that he was saying how there’s a lot of Chinese people in China and it’s overcrowded so cars are in traffic and they can’t help it if they can’t stop to let people cross the street. He wasn’t saying it’s ok to run them over he’s saying it’s common sense that Chinese drivers will be many and they won’t try and stop for pedestrians because there are too many of them.
Absolutely agree. N to have a teacher an alleged role model say such a thing is horrific!
Talk about creating a hostile environment.
It was dry humor mixed with him being a little caviler. I laughed and understood what he was trying to say. Whats worse is telling people what they should and shouldn’t do. Sam is an easy read and that is why its easy to understand what hes trying to say.
@@jimena6009 That doesn't seem like what he was trying to say... He could've just said "the streets are very crowded there", instead of "so many Chinese over there". Like no, it's like saying there are so many Africans in Africa. The Chinese are not a single culture or ethnicity. Hundreds of millions of non-Mandarin people live within the boundaries of China. Their cultures are so different from each other, that they are practically foreign to each other. The idea that China or any large land mass is just a huge monolith of identical people, and that everywhere is just crowded, is simply a trope that prevents people from seeing how those places/cultures really are.
Looking at the West, its ironic that it values individualism, yet socialize existence.
Like I do what I want, but others pay for me to do it.
German solidarity in a nutshell
Pfff complimenting kids IN FRONT of others??? Asian parents never, in fact, they’ll praise your cousins in front of you, and ask why you aren’t more like them.
That’s your parents, not mine
Where are Indians we are 1.3 billions and you don't consider us from east only korean, Japanese & chinese are not asian or eastern, come on man
Sam stereotypes ppl. Asians are like this and that. No Sam. Not all Americans have the same characteristics right? Same goes for Asians. Why would he keep putting ppl in this box. And his comments tho.
He is talking about mindsets not personal characteristics, different cultures do have different perspectives and expectations, he's just pointing them out
Looks like you don't understandsociology
But he is targeting at that sorority girl to prove his point. I wouldn’t feel very comfortable if I were that sorority girl.
Asians parents have no problem bragging about other people’s kids. The need to always be competitive is annoying as hell.
The girl with the 3.6 GPA doesn't think she's smart because her Asian parents won't be happy with her performance unless she gets a perfect 4.0. And even then, they will ask her why she didn't get bonus marks and get a 4.1. Lol
Razear , my kids say the same thing you said (‘Asian parents won’t be happy’) ,but that is not true with me . I actually thought about that a lot and wonder where that came from and the conclusion is that society put that in their minds.
Because she is not no.1
NO. She said her parents will 'proud of her' but they won't show it off to others.
Nah the point is Asian people try to avoid the situation of other people being jealous to him or her. Asians knew showing off will end up tragedy in the competition.
That's a stereotype. She's just a really humble and genuine person. She is super motivated and not pressured by her family.
lose a few lmao
Also look how humble and modest they are...the Asians are so scared to look and sound vain about it.
Just admit that you are smart. Thats all there is to it LOL.
Yvonne Blake what’s wrong with you?
There's no point in claiming to be smart or anything. If you really are intelligent, it shows in your deeds, not your words.
@@larshofler8298 Well both actually. How you express yourself and the choice of words you use, how eloquent and articulate you are is also a reflection of IQ.
Such a biased conversation. When you try to prove something that you believe is true then this kinda lecture you deliver.....I can see the students were getting really bored .....
and the professor shouldn't go that much personal to her, she was really embarrassed to talk about her grades.
I am asian. We have some good things and also some bad things. Just don't be biased.
The girl from TW needs to chill
About what? Her being from Taiwan instead of China?
@@jp4431 No, she just needs to chill in general. Trying too hard
Incredibly cringe and stereotypical, what jobs are they going to get after these lectures???
So biased and stereotyped. Hard to believe it is part of a university lecture.
