Nevada County - Malakoff Diggins Hike

To tell the history of the Malakoff Diggins, there are three parts to this hike. The first phase is exploring the Diggins. Scenic, eroded cliffs surround a flat valley. Marshland surrounds a small lake. High pressure water canons were used to blast gold from ancient river gravels. A visit to the nearby town of North Bloomfield tells the story of miners. The final phase is a visit far downstream along the Yuba River. Dirt, rock & gravel from hydraulic mining destroyed towns & farmland.
