The metal bridge you walked over was not left behind. There had been a wooden timber trestle there. By the 1980's it was mostly a wreck. You could walk down and cross upstream or go over the lower portion of the timbers. Walking was easier. The bridge you walked over has entirely replaced the old Railroad trestle. It looks like both used the same foundations. Great film, thank you.

It is a beautiful State Park very much worth a visit. I don't know that Jack London 'preserved' the Redwood tree as much as it was not in the way of his planting of thousands of Eucalyptus trees in one of his failed get rich quick schemes. Thank You for bringing us along on your adventures.

🌲💚🌲Thank You for the video. Jack London State Historic Park is a very beautiful and romantic park run solely by volunteers. Unfortunately, not all the volunteers are equally knowledgeable and widely differing stories are to be had depending on who you are talking to. Jack London bought an abandoned vineyard, but removed or destroyed the existing vines because they were not part of his dream ranch. The original property and most of the surrounding ranches were purchased by Jack London's step sister, Eliza Shepard while London was traveling around obtaining material for his writings. Descendants of Shepard in the 1960's and later planted the existing vineyards, but some docents lead visitors to believe that they were planted in the early 1900's by London. The lake was created by Jack London, damming a creek, it was eventually filled in by subsequent owners, and is now in the process of being restored. A very beautiful place to spend a day or more, but be skeptical of the history learned here.

I've hiked that trail a few times with my dog and once with my Son. It's a beautiful hike and the bridge and visitors center are so interesting. The river beach is nice for a cooling off refresher after the hike, in summer of course.
