Why It’s Time To Give Native Americans Their Land Back

  • For some reason, Oct. 12th is still Columbus Day in a lot of the United States. Fortunately, more and more cities and states are adopting that day as Indigenous Peoples Day - a nice rebuke to a day used to commemorate someone who not only didn’t “discover” the United States, but also enacted genocide against entire peoples living in the Americas. But this acknowledgement of Indigenous people, past and present, doesn’t do enough to reconcile the atrocities the United States has committed against them. What about giving them their land back? Sounds a little radical, but it’s possible - and it’s slowly happening. But what does land reclamation look like, and what does it really mean? Sana hears from several activists to inform her take on the fight to get #LandBack into Indigenous hands.

All Races are just a mix bag of genes- thats called "Human Race" some are taller some r shorter some fatter some skinnier some smarter some dumber some bigger eyes some slanted eyes some whiter some darker -see it for what it is - just a mixed bag of genes.
Why should any mixed bag of genes have forever rights to any geographic location-
This is ONLY true in the eyes of Prejudiced people who think how they look rather than how they act is the defining factor of their importance..
Consider how you act and what you do when its of benefit to the rest of humanity to the rest of the plant and to other animal species of the world 🌎.
Some will spend their entire Lives trying to make the "Mixed Bags of Genes" a "Thing" when its not its just - Hmm, Maybe You should get over yourself your just not that important.

The difference between Mexico and the US & Canada is that majority of Mexicans are Mestizos, having both Indigenous and European ancestry. The problem is that most who are in power or have the most money are White and/or Foreign descendants Mexicans. And because of their influences, many Mexicans, subconsciously, have prejudices toward darker Mexicans, even amongst the darker people. You can see this on an economic level, showing southern states (indigenous majority) poorer than the northern states (white majority).

Its only a drop in the bucket but I've been saying for years, a form of reparations for indigenous peoples should be TAX EXEMPTION. That covers the whole gamut: Property taxes, Income taxes, Estate/Death/Inheritance taxes, etc. Its kind of a slap in the face that you can be Creek, muscogee, Sioux pick your tribe and you have to pay taxes on a house and land that was legitimately and originally your ancestors to a government that stole it from you or didn't honor treaties after they acquired them. I also say tax exemption because the political space(old racist white folks) are against "Handouts" tax exemption means you keep what you earn and don't pay a toll to keep and own your property outright. Also when an indigenous person dies all wealth and property should stay in their family if said person has no next of kin it should go to their tribe. ... Like I said it's not a lot but a start

I’m a Canadian Cree First Nation, and let me apologize for commenting before even watching you video.
“How do we give it back”, you ask?
You don’t. Certain bands get what’s called oil money here (lump sum payments received reflecting their portion of the resources taken off that land that’s paid upon reaching legal adulthood), and believe me when I say all that filthy blood money has destroyed lives. We wouldn’t do good things with it either.
Any self-identified Indian, indigenous, aboriginal or first people go ahead and @ me. I buried too many friends & served as pallbearer at too many funerals to kid myself. How many family members have you lost in the battle for self government.
No one can give us liberation unless we give it to ourselves first, and that process has been killing us in far worse ways than were ever used against us; we’re doing to ourselves.
Why I say this? Because the land was given not US, but to EVERYONE; so spoke the creator. Humanity has had that wrong since the dawn of civilization, and it’s not changing anytime soon.
That’s all. Thank you for asking, I hope you’re not disappointed with an objective answer.
Edit 1: Thank you for even caring enough to begin with; you got heart in addition to a keen mind, that’s rare. That you still have one & kept it safe as long as you have, that’s rarer still. You’re ultimately proving me wrong in my doubts on humanity’s future, please continue to do so.
Edit 2: ...not going to lie; I haven’t enjoyed getting as involved in any comment section in ages. My self-proclaimed controversial standpoint is fairly tame in some comparisons. Most fascinating.

Hello Mr, Crazy Fool, I apologize but your name begs for multiple translations, I'm a reasonable person so I made only one... I am Canadian too and this issue has been floating on my waters for many years now and I think I see a simple, satisfactory and hopefully logical way to do this softly without making unnecessary storms: there is so much unoccupied, unregistered and ''maybe not pristine but close'' territory unfit for greedy speculation that hey, I say let's call the Queen!. Of course when I am reminded of the past and present atrocities the conquerers have relentlessly inflicted on usually welcoming and harmless people all over the world, right now I am looking at Vietnam, the destruction and the pain are beyond comprehension... So anyway, I am white, I feel guiltty all the time so I thought, maybe that would also cure my insecur... NAH, I'm perfectly fine, I just think that the land would LOVE to talk to you again. Happiness.

But when I read, “The land would love to talk to [me] again?”? I swear the first thing that popped to mind was a quote, “You know the funny thing about people who hear voices? They always crazy.”

Exactly, they constantly talk about injustice, but justice implies law. Who's laws were violated? Whites were the ones going to war, so can't be theirs, but the natives were once warrior peoples as well, they also took land by conquest from one another. Whites won because of a technological advantage, unfortunate for the natives, but that's how history worked. We should either speak only of war or of peaceful cooperation, not the removal of whites willingly, who would willingly choose to leave? The natives fought hard to keep their land, so too will the whites if it comes to it.

I get my car back and you have to give the money back before paying a penalty for your actions in the first place. We live on stolen land, land that must be returned. _I_ live on stolen land--land not covered by treaty. And even though every case that goes before the Supreme Court is found in favour of the First Nation that brought it, the colonialist government we live under still delays, denies, and just plain refuses to acknowledge the rights to the land of our First Nations.

Native Americans and Canadians have no more right to any land than anyone else does
They are suffering from the after effects of settler colonialism, yes. Low household wealth, poor land on reservations, and racist treatment by the state and by whites (and non whites). This results in a lot of other harmful symptoms of those deeper problems. But those problems are a) broadly similar to the problems faced by any minority in the west, and by the working class generally and b) cannot be solved in an antagonistic relationship with other oppressed peoples in the west, white black or any other color, but only as members of an equal struggle in a community of equals who all experience some level of oppression and all have something to gain from fighting against it. “You got screwed, I got screwed, I’ll help you and you help me so we both don’t get screwed again”.
The only allies natives will get with their current approach is the shallow, empty and fashionable support of moderate and left liberals, and that’s been demonstrated time and time again with every other insipid intersectional movement since the 1960s

Most land on this Earth is stolen land.
European pilgrims along with African ADOS (American Descendants of Slavery) settled in North America hundreds of years ago and have since then taken over and become part of the new natives. This has happened to many places many times throughout history, such as with ancient China who replaced the populations of it's neigbors by outbreeding them or Japan who's current population decended from Koreans or how the Islamic caliphate replaced a lot of rival cultures. Aryans migrating to South Asia. Arabs invading North Africa and becoming the majority in North African countries like Egypt and Morocco. African descendants in Caribbean countries like Jamaica, Haiti, Bermuda, Dominican Republic. Khoi and San are the indigenous people of South Africa. Not Zulus and Xhosas.
The Zulu were part of a wave of Eastern Coastal Bantu, displacing & absorbing native Khoisan peoples. The hills & caves of Zululand have Bushman paintings. Bushmen were there first. The Zulus invaded, stole land, and outbred the native Khoisan people.
That is why they are the majority ethnic group in South Africa today
    There are many more examples.
