Season 4 cat is constantly stressed out and uncomfortable. Season 1 cat is just really cool and someone you'd want to be friends with.

cause of her brother, her brother changed her throughout the years
I feel like her mental health got more and more messed up throughout the show
wouldn't blame her
Yeah that’s what I was thinking
nah it was the WRITERS getting more and more lazy throughout the show.
@@plummuff nah I don't think so
Or hear me out….it’s a kids show…
I honestly like the progression of her character because it really shows that she was more and more traumatized throughout the show, and being cutesy and happy-go-lucky was a coping mechanism
“I liked her character development because it showed her being more traumatized 😀”
Like ok what 😭😭
(Obviously I know u didn’t mean it like that I just thought it was funny)
But character development isn't up to the actor, it's up to the writers and director. So her trauma is irrelevant to the cutesy persona
Cus of her brother
@@Francesca_0 her trauma isn't connected with the actress either. It's part of how her character was written
@@Bizcuits26 I believe that she got influenced by her brother a lot throughout the seasons.
I noticed the change. Voice got higher and she SEEMED shorter. She went from always wearing heels to never.
And her catchphrase “What’s that supposed to mean?!” wasn’t used anymore.
Similar to the change of SpongeBob. He got more silly and kid-like after the first few seasons. Mid/deep level voice less and less.
Exactly
Yes!
I never noticed when I watched it at first but I rewatched it on Netflix and was so surprised at how much she changed
yep in the worst
This
"my hair color has nothing to do with MY psycological problems!!!" XD that kinda explains her change XD
She said her hair color has to do with when her brother hit her over the head and her head started bleeding but she liked how the red looked in her hair
@@destinysweeney3906 yeah XD she is just insane XD
@Joe yea , after she liked how the blood looked on her hair
@Joe she lied cause she didn’t want anybody to know her business 💀
@Joe you just wanted trouble huh?
Its crazy to think about it now because back when we were younger, the brother jokes seemed normal and just part of her character. However it really does show how traumatized she was because of her brother. Do y’all remember when she told Sam that she was in a closet HIDING from her brother to SURVIVE?? The child like persona could be traced back to(POSSIBLY) her parents having to focus more on her brother since he’s “not well” and most likely dangerous and needs to be paid attention to more than their healthy daughter cat? It makes sense but of course, it’s all speculation.

I think she changed because of her weird brother because i remember in one time she said in the episode she got trapped in a metal box in sam and cats she said "It feels like my closet when i hide from my brother" Sam: why would you hide from your brother? "You know..to survive"

They told her curly hair wasn't "In character" for Cat Valentine . So they made her dye her hair red and straighten it. But she had to start wearing red wigs at some point because she was having hair damage. Which leads to the iconic ponytail she has now. :D
I like the curly hair better tho
I think curly works for kid-like characters like Cat. I just think kids like curly because it’s pretty.
P.S. I meant kid-like in a good way, just in case you didn’t know
when i first saw her she made me think of the 80s with her curly hair and multi colored clothes
Iconic?
@Jasmine N. go through what? Hair damage from dye and heat?
She was so much better on season 1😭😭 i agree with the other comments saying she progressively got worse and more traumatized

@@nnnn-sc2imno
season 1 cat is the best! i liked her voice and fashion style!
What’s pretty sad is that she possibly went through age-regression. As the show went on, her brother’s mental health had gotten worse, and she was possibly traumatized by her brother’s behavior, and the fact that her parents couldn’t paid ANY attention to her due to that, and to the point where they could no longer care for her when they had to take her bother to a mental-health institution out of state, leaving her to stay with her aunt and uncle for an indefinite period of time was frightening. But even when she was living with her aunt and uncle, it didn’t made things better for her since she dealt with domestic abuse from them, and was forced to run away and live in a school closet that was rodent-infested. Her mentally retreating to a younger age possibly help her cope with stress and trauma she had dealt with her family out of school.
That or it was just Dan Schneider being a sick man and making Cat looking more like a kid and making her do weird stuff cause he liked that...

Not dumb. She's bipolar and something. She's cray cray.
it’s called flanderization of a character and it’s frowned upon in writing.
Someone's getting it. The amount people in the comments trying to "explain" it was driving me nuts
Cat also wore heels in season 1-2 but in seasons 3-4 and in Sam and cat she doesn’t.
I noticed she started changing when Begging On Your Knees was released. After Locked Up, it really started showing
Her catchphrase is "WHAT'S THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN?!"
So does that make it a ✨catphrase✨
It’s from the Amanda show
I actually preferred season 1 Cat
Season 2-4 Cat was alright, but I enjoyed Season 1 Cat a lot more. Mainly because she was slightly more intelligent and her voice actually sounded like a bubbly but mature teenage girl, not an annoying childish one (even though it was a tiny bit cute). But that's just me
am i the only one that feels... icky about cat? i feel like she had mental health issues or was abused... i don't know, she just seemed quite unstable
well duh. have you heard the stories about her brother and how her parents are kinda mean to her. Later on in victorious it got so bad at her house that she was living in a hidden place in the school. When her friends found her, they told her to go live with her nona. I dont think so probably Nickelodeon got called out for making Fun of a bipolar character then they changed that
Agreed
@@yasmin9038bro she was even more bipolar and crazy in season 3 and 4
I never noticed this when I was younger, but once I rewatched the show recently, I noticed. Which resulted in me in preferring her character in season 1.
While Tori's catchphrase is "I don’t talk like that!", Jade's "NO!" shouts are also legend, here we are entertained with Cat Valentine's catchphrase: "What’s that supposed to mean?!"
I definitely noticed the change and was so annoyed lol. She got more annoying and dumber and dumber by the season and lost every shred of personality she had in Season 1 Victorious. She ended up with zero personality. Everyone’s saying how it was because her character was traumatised by her brother yadda yadda yadda but nah I don’t think it’s even that deep, the show people thought a dumb airhead character was cute and went to town with it lmao
Yeah, but the constant talk about her traumatic home life lends itself to her at first having bipolar disorder to her developing a child-like coping mechanism. The girl said she had to lock herself in her closet to SURVIVE an attack from her brother on several occasions. It's very possible that her condition worsened throughout the show leading her to have more manic episodes. However, it was a show on Nick for pre-teens. That's pretty rough subject matter to tackle directly. Honestly, if you look at all the characters, each and everyone of them had implied mental illness or fucked up home lives. I didn't notice any of this growing up, but now rewatching the show it's becoming more and more apparent.
Exactly! Girl thank you for hitting the nail on the head 😭 💯
Reminds me of joey from friends

She definitely was my favourite character, so sad how she ended up

season 1 cat>>>>>>
Season 1 cat is Season 4's elder sister.
Currently rewatching with a friend. We are stopping after season 2 due to this
S1 Cat has a bipolar personality, and the longer the show goes on, her personality changes to grow much more childish. It’s like if her angry, childish second personality manifested as her whole character
I like all seasons, but season one is more matur e, these days I like the more mature sides, even though I like all.
You can also see how kidd-ier she gets, in real words, how her mental health detiorates, and how she becomes more stressed -traumatised
this is the human equivalent of Spongebob’s personality downfall throughout the years.
They shouldn't have changed her imo. Cat seemed way better and less ditzy in season one.
I like newer cat tbh I grew up with her more

I wonder if Ariana actually picked up on the cutesy behaviour irl because of her character, which has been such an ongoing thing with her (and which I love), or if she gradually made Cat more cute (and dumb) over time because that's what Ariana was like naturally as she grew up. Hm hm
i feel like the reason cat became more childish was because she never had a childhood, because of her traumatic home life.
I realized that Ariana lost a lot of weight coming down to the end and throughout Sam & Cat but she really caught herself back and is her true self again
She looked so much better, when she had more weight on her.
It’s weird because as she got older she got younger
Look, even at the most weird, she was a character in victorious. In Sam and Kat, she turned into a literal Muppet.
Real life explaination: her character got flanderized.
In universe explaination: brain tumor.
I love the old Cat better before she got more annoying and dumber

Right
I like the new one because she has more of a personality
@@maxi_patty Whatever
If you remember the stories about her brother then you probably know why she changed so drastically. This show is kinda dark.
Season 1: White
Season 4: Tanned
So.. we could say... The tanning sessions affect the cat's brain?
"the cat's" brain
So she’s aging backwards. Which means in each season, she gets younger and younger! 🤣

I really HATE Cat Valentine from season 2-onwards and Sam & Cat spinoff. I hate her with a burning passion. She was a tolerant character during season 1 and was mostly my favorite character, despite her ditzy nature but she was kinda smart on some moments. Her flanderization became a total wreck.
I love season 1 cat. Idk the girlyness and high pitched voice seems so artificial. (Not including like, character growth and age regression.

Fan Theory
Get ready to fall down a Rabbit Hole of speculation
In the Episode "Rex Dies," Cat gets locked in the Hospital's Psych Ward and they NEVER reveal how she got out or how long she was in there. All we know is that they decided to call in "a specialist."
5 Episodes later, Season 2 happens and her voice suddenly changes, and well... you know the rest.
It's anyone's guess what kind of tests the doctors put her through and medication they gave her while she was in the psych ward (for God knows how long). Not to mention there's a solid chance she was misdiagnosed from the get-go. Remember, she got put in there because she tried to describe Rex's accident to the nurse but came off sounding completely insane.
When they finally released her, there's a good chance they prescribed her some medication. It's anyone's guess what that medication could be, but again, there's a good chance they misdiagnosed her and gave her medication for The Wrong Mental Disorder. From that point on, we have to wonder how long she may have continued to take this medication, or the long-term effects it could have had before someone realized she shouldn't be taking it... assuming she ever stopped taking it...
Well, I'm going to stop there before I go in too deep, but feel free to continue on your own and tell me your thoughts :)
Season 1 she was cuter and better
It's same what happened with Joey Tribbiani.
@Sabhyata Singh same that happened with cat. He was competent before but then they made him stupid.
Yes!
Pilot episode cat was like a completely different person from season 4 cat
In season 1 she seemed much more like a real person (albeit slightly ditzy). By season 4, they made her so over the top stupid that it became annoying. It was the opposite of the good character development that they did with Jade, who started out as unrealistically bitchy.
i just wanna say there was a character in the amanda show (another dan schnieder show) that was basically the same as season 1 cat even down to the "whats that supposed to mean?!?" catchphrase, so they probably changed her as time went on to separate her from that character
She was never the same after the accident... 😰
Wht accident
Cats character was so much better in season 1/2. After that she is just plain ditsy and her voice is annoying but before she seemed human and had depth
I still remember her scenes with Robbie's annoying grandmother.
It really is just because of the writers but I wish that the way her character developed was planned, it’d be more interesting and at least we’d have a reason behind her kind of uncomfortable behavior
This is why I liked Season 1 the best. I really hated how they dumbed down her character in the later years.
ngl it's kinda funny seeing people act and say like the reason is because of her brother or trauma or that she's age regressing but I'm sad to break to you all that that infact is not the case. actually there is no correlation to the character. the sole reason they dumbed her down and kind of turned her into a child is because dan is just a weirdo who just told ariana to start acting and talking like that as cat lol
the only and sole reason is literally just the fact that dan schneider is an absolute sick weirdo who put his weird kinks and fetishes into his shows.
Tbh her voice got higher she changed her hair and lost her catchphrase and got a little more bubbly
It is said that cats brother abused her and as the seasons went on she slowly went on more medication cause she was facing depression and the side affects changed with her medication in season 1 the medication makes her agitated easily then she gets put on medication to make her child like and happy
In sam and cat ariana was wearing a wig because her hair was damage by all the red dye, ariana was also forcing the voice for cat in sam and cat.
It’s like she is getting younger as she gets older
Bro her whole face changed
I CERTAINLY noticed it, I absolutely hated it when Cat changed. Season 1 Cat is the best. The rest is so annoying and completely cringe.
Samee she looks more mature and Just a little Dumb and bipolar then they did a imature girl that probably has dementia
Well in season 1 they were all still adjusting to the character. I'd say the following versions of her is the perfect interpretation of Cat's character. And personally I'd disagree on "annoying" and "cringe" and I'm pretty sure millions will disagree too.
@@eyesaiah8405 I completely disagree. The season 1 version was the perfect interpretation of Cat, she had the perfect balance between being dumb but also being normal and her voice was MUCH better in season 1. In the following seasons it was just pure mental retardation with the really annoying voice and different (worst) shade of red hair color, it wasn’t even funny. She was a complete airhead. In season 1 you craved more Cat because they underused her and she was so innocent and well balanced with being dumb and normal. In the following seasons it was the opposite, you wouldn’t get a human or genuine side of her anymore, it was just pure and extreme ditziness and she got annoying. In season 1 she would express anger and many other emotions and she had real dialogue, in the following seasons she would only get happy or sad and tell non sequitur stories about her insane brother.
@@SpongeBob5000_ that's literally why it's not the perfect interpretation for the character. The writers finally reached their goals of forming the character "Cat" when they changed her for season 2 and so on. Season 2 was the time she was what they wanted her to be. I mean it's so much better for the new Cat. She was supposed to be stupid, wasn't stupid enough in season 1. She was supposed to be bipolar, almost no sign of that in season 1. Besides, the new Cat was so much more iconic, I mean c'mon. If they didn't change her then they wouldn't have changed her way of talking and her dialogue. Season 1 Cat was way more boring than the new one. She was too normal, I'd say. Everyone had their share of craziness, but Cat's character was supposed to have had a decease. They were already cray cray and yet they didn't have a decease, so they needed to top their craziness for Cat, who was written to be crazy. They were crazy enough without a decease, she needed to be way more crazy because she had a decease. You have to understand that what she was supposed to be was finally brought to life starting in season 2.
@@eyesaiah8405 No. Your premise is that the writers intended for her to be like that. Therefore she was perfect. That’s not
my premise, my premise is just analyzing both characters and choosing which one is better. Just because the writers wanted her to be like that doesn’t mean she was better. Not bipolar enough in season 1?? Are you kidding me? That’s when she was the MOST bipolar. Does “WHATS THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN?” ring a bell?? She only said that line in season 1 when she was actually bipolar. You clearly haven’t watched season 1 recently because you are completely wrong about that. She is only “more iconic” or better remembered like that because she lasted the most with that inferior version of her character. She was anything but boring in season 1 she was only boring after season 1 because she had less depth as a character and you always got the same cringe things from her. She became the group’s child after season 1. In season 1 she was very entertaining, likable and intriguing because you got way more from her, she was really bipolar, she had real and normal dialogue that contributed to the show and conversations, she expressed much more emotions, she was dumb but not annoyingly dumb, she was adorable and her voice was much better. In the later seasons she was very limited as a character, had no depth, was COMPLETELY ditzy, had the annoying voice, she only got happy or sad and her voice made a lot of lines sound very inauthentic and awkward because she had to say it with that limiting tone of voice and stay in line with those 2 emotions. That’s all it was. It was very annoying especially knowing the superior character that she had in season 1. Also, I don’t know what you mean by “decease”.
I like both- It’s just that they’re the same person? Does that make sense? It just feels better if they stuck to one character rather than suddenly switching it up
Yk when smth traumatizing happens in your life, you might either change the way you are/act because of the event itself or because of medication side effects
@@itsyaboichilde5397 I know but- it’s a teen’s TV show. I don’t think they meant to write that Cat had some traumatic experience that would change her personality- I feel like they just did it on a whim and anything unfortunate that would happen to her would be for comedic affect rather than actual character development
@@vae2036 i mean they could just make her have a traumatic experience and make it seem like a comedy trait. It's not like its the only "kid" show with serious/mature content
@@itsyaboichilde5397 But I’m saying that the reason her personality changed wasn’t because of trauma- the writers didn’t have that in mind when they made that change. It could be a realistic reason that could very well happen, but again- I think they just wrote her personality to be different on a whim and not from trauma. A kids show can have serious topics but this and that aren’t the same

it’s so jarring to see her S1 self and her S4 self back to back oh my lord

Yes. What about it?
tbh i actually perfer her character in the later seasons 😭 i personally love ditsy girly characters so even as a kid i thought she was adorable and reminded me of myself quite a bit (obiviously not the same extent to cat but yk what i mean probably)
I think Cat was getting worse with each season, in the first season of Victorious it was childish but sweet and was more mature and smart , in the second season of Victorious they took away that essence a bit but he was still a good character, In the third season of Victorious they already made her somewhat silly and a little less mature and in Sam & Cat I felt like she was a completely different character, Now she in this series I feel that they took away the maturity that she had and made her much more dumb, so in conclusion I think I liked more the Cat from the first season of Victorious
At first she is the regular cat that we know and love but soon turns into the cat from Sam & cat her style changes and Everything
Also season two and three she would go in and out of the normal voice and high voice most of the talking was in the high voice but then having some lines in the normal voice
